Gurkan
Blblblblblbl.
ImNotMark
how do i work around a blocked package? shadow is blocking me from installing pam-login
Mank0r
its a (stupid) known thing
s0ulslack
http://planet.gentoo.org/developers/flameeyes/2006/03/19/the_shadow_and_pam_login_conflict
Mank0r
emerge -aCv shadow; emerge -v pam-login
s0ulslack
wrong way :)
Mank0r
it would be a good idea to be logged in to at least 2 sessions if you're not sure what you're doing
s0ulslack: why?
s0ulslack
should be emerge -C pam-login && emerge -u shadow
Mank0r
lol
aiiight

ImNotMark
emerge -C pam-login && emerge -u shadow
Mank0r
funny
Gurkan
Respect.
ImNotMark
thats what the link says
thanks s0ulslack
Mank0r
anyway, fu*king stupid issue which should never have come about
ImNotMark
what if pam-login isnt currently installed?
Mank0r
sometimes i wonder wtf the dev's keep their intelligence
ImNotMark: dont do anything, and log a bug?
ImNotMark
i cant login tho, me being a moron last night (while drunk) had the great idea to uninstall pam-login and update shadow then try to reinstall pam-login
s0ulslack
if sshd was started before all that you should still be able to get in
ImNotMark
is there a problem with utempter and libutempter aswell?
theBear
yeah... i did that last night and nothing broke yet....
a few days ago on another machine...
ImNotMark
how did you get around it?
Mank0r
(Action) decides not to do any more updates until his debian box gets installed
theBear
with ones like that (identical thing, new name) if you know (are pretty sure) its safe just emerge -C or --clean or --prune packagename then either emerge newpackagename or re-try what you were doing (last night i said emerge -pv system again after removing the blocking package, and lib-utempter was in the new list)
ImNotMark
right now coldplug is blocking udev and utempter is blocking libutempter
Mank0r
lol
instanity
ImNotMark
how the hell do i get around coldplug and udev :/
theBear
at a guess, i would say remove udev (DO NOT REBOOT !!!!) then try emerge -pv coldplug udev or something like that and see what you see ... if you have quickpkg (you might need gentoolkit to get it) you can quickpkg udev THEN remove it, if theres a problem boot with a livecd and emerge -K "=sys-apps/udev-version" (i think its -K) will put your old one right back where it was
ImNotMark
i should just smack myself for wqanting to goto unstable
theBear
as in totally ? thats a bit dodgy.... a few things here and there is usually ok

ImNotMark
yeah, i put in ACCEPT_KEYWORD="~x86" in make.conf
Psych
(Action) is back
theBear
mmmm... that would probably break the odd thing here and there... you could always try taking it out and going backwards (emerge -pev world to check, emerge -ev world to rebuild EVERYTHING)
if you wanted too
ImNotMark
ok fixed udev and coldplug
now to get around this libutempter and utempter
theBear
theres a fast-search (ebuild) thing called eix ... if you emerge that then make a database with update-eix you can do eix utemp and it should show you a description (and other stuff) for both of them... might tell you if they do the same thing as each other
emerge -S utemp will do it too, but WAY slower
Freman
I tried to upgrade my dvb drivers
now I get unresolved symbol errors on both versions
pinkArton
esearch
theBear
Freman, re-build some other stuff <grin>
pinkArton, i dunno, last i checked it was slower and took WAY longer to update db, but i like the formatting more
pinkArton
i dunno thats what i use
theBear
try eix, if nothing else so you know.... its not big to emerge
(Action) notes this portage backend-plugin DB stuff is AMAZINGLY good
no more 50/51% BULLSHIT
work time.. cya all
HeppyCat
hay mr bear
what what this plugin is you speak of
pinkArton
eh i like esearch
esearch blah
done
HeppyCat
eix
pinkArton
and when i sync my portage tree i do esync
ImNotMark
hrmmmm
well i did eix
pinkArton
and i did yer mom
so what now!
ImNotMark
utempter is "App that allows non-privileged apps to write utmp (login) info" and libutempter is "Library that allows non-privileged apps to write utmp (login) info, which need root access"
pinkArton: did she atleast give you a cake and $50?
pinkArton
yeah i got a couple lines
oh
soda
no i don't drink that sh*t
ImNotMark
cake not coke
(Action) takes the mirror off of pinkArton's desk
pinkArton
wow
i have a smudge right there
thats really funny
ImNotMark
thats what happens when you browser the web for pr0n
-r
pinkArton
lol
HeppyCat
hah
ImNotMark
you guys try out xgl yet?
HeppyCat
not i
know plenty of friends that have
ImNotMark
im thinkin of trying it, seems like some work tho
pinkArton
lies
Spiun
so, vista kinda stole the idea, right?
:D
pinkArton
you have no friends
Gurkan
^_^
Spiun
(with "aero")
Psych
:-)
=D
ImNotMark
seems bloated
140 aps need to compile when i emerge x0rg 7
s0ulslack
its modular, and xorg is huge
ImNotMark
yeah
pinkArton
and sucks
:)
lenox
vista stole the idea from os x
pinkArton
and ding
lenox
as did xgl. but i don't really think you can call it stealing.
it's just "this is where GUI is going"
pinkArton
vista got the idea from
lenox
let's see who does it best
pinkArton
we all know who will win ;)
Spiun
why would someone 3d-rotate stuff on screen?
HeppyCat
they stole it from NeXT!
Spiun
"more space" ?
HeppyCat
Spiun: they have a severely underused 3d card
Spiun
lol
[KillerB]
there should be nothing wrong in runing a gentoo genkernel on a debian, no?
Spiun
... but ... why
[KillerB]
cuz debian kernels are retarded with vesafb and I already have another machine with similar hardware runing gentoo kernel with vesafb runing very well
Spiun
ah.
the question was, why debian
nevermind :P I don't know, never tried
pinkArton
um
no that won't work
genkernel is funky
does special things
and should not be used
[KillerB]
< finds genkernel usefull on laptops where you can not predict what hardware you will throuw at them on the move
Agios
genkernel is evil
Gwydion-
very
traumahound
(Action) makes a cross with his fingers.
Gurkan
watch out for the moose
Master?
Agios
Gurkan, do you want to genkernel Psych?
Psych
Knows.
Gurkan
amen
Agios
(Action) genkernels Gurkan with Psych genkernel
Gurkan
(Action) genkernels Agios
Psych
(Action) genkernels Agios
HeppyCat
yay home time
have venison to grill :)
Freman
http://pastebin.com/761116 <- the people autobanned by my ssh patch in the past 2 weeks
Agios
they don't even make it past the firewall here
Freman
they get autofirewalled
Gurkan
You know it's been a good night when you go in your bag for the camera and it's in there with your tights.
pinkArton
(Action) puts Agios on trial
wtf was that trigger
Agios
(Action) rings up Denny Crane and Alan Shore
[KillerB]
YAY long live gentoo

pinkArton
