ph0bos
hello guys
can i ask: what is your preferred download manager? thanks
NetBandit
high
bittorrent
specifically, azureus
ph0bos
ph0bos, :) that has a firefox plugin, thanks
NetBandit, :) that has a firefox plugin, thanks

theBear
thats not a download manager... thats a p2p thing
man... dunno which bit (main or a plugin,) but my gkrellm STILL has a shocking memleak...
just gained about 90m real and maybe 150m swap restarting it... gkrellm that is
got remote-sessions running on other machines and they are fine... so i suppose its probably a plugin....
NetBandit
heh i, if its not on bittorrent, who cares :)
theBear
pfft !
ph0bos
im going back to gentoo
fsck ubuntu
it installs like win32 but i /can't/ use it the way i want o
theBear
i dunno... the gentoo "graphical installer" bullsh*t probably does too... to an extent.... but fu*k ubuntu... gentoo is king these days
ph0bos
all distros have their weak points but ubuntu wants to be nice to everybody
and i need my damn gcc
Autie
wget is my prefered
theBear
i was just thinking wget is a good one... doesn't do "swarming" but most things don't, and generally, if it gives an advantage your screwing over the server...
Autie
:)
Psych
:)
ph0bos
sorry for rant guys
bye
Autie
is this bcause of me?
theBear
hmmm....
maybe he's just insane
Autie
hehe
theBear
hmm.... can't find spare ram... maybe i should do the old "badram" trick on this machine i wanna start using again
Gidzz0r
whats that trick about?
theBear
there used to be this kernel patch called "badram" (and its err... pre or post-decessor, badmem) ... that was all pre-2.6... now there is a nice kernel commandline option called EXACT MEMMAP= .... so you run memtest with serial output enabled, and log to another machine... run it for a day or 2... a LONG time... then you note on the other machine, all the bits of ram that failed (remembering that memtest and the computer in general ON
LY works with bad ram if the first little tiny meg or so is o.k....) and how big they are (you can be REALLY accurate and note EVERY little bit, or do what i do and choose chunks (if 72 and 73 meg on the chip are dead with .2 good megs in the middle, i don't care for simplicity...) THEN what you do is change the grub/lilo bootline (pref. grub so you don't need to try and boot a livecd or similar to edit the lilo.conf...) to include th
e MEMMAP EXACTMAP stuff, and write a normal memmap, but without the bad bits... the kernel magically ignores them and assuming they are static errors, works forever
Gidzz0r
hehe
theBear
its good... my kernels been running on two bad 64's and a bad 128 for years.... total 253meg :)
err... kernel=server
Gidzz0r
i see
well one more proof of how magically fantastic linux is!!!

theBear
i'm tempted to patch/make a memtester to run WITHIN a running system (rather than outside an OS like memtest86) ... then i can REALLY be sure i've gotten ALL the bad bits...
yeah... one BIG proof for poor guys like me... think about it... i fix someone's computer where the ram died (win machine of course :) and i get a free 127 or whatever megs....
Gidzz0r
ohh
thats good too
theBear
indeed... adds up quickly, i just haven't felt like doing it for a while....

I can't ping my wireless router from either the wired or wireless sides.
HeppyCat
zaeien: Are you Gragh?
linksys?
zaei
Netgear.
HeppyCat
samn difference
how old is it?

re
HeppyCat
hard reset!
New0rder
What are the stage 3 files compiled with? -march=pentium4 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer
Autie
yeah, hard reset, set your ethx ip to 129.168.0.15, bring ethx up, use your browser to configure your AP blah blah
New0rder: probably
HeppyCat
i gave up my linksys router about 9 months ago
New0rder
what about prelink and nptl? is there a way to deal with that on the inital install? or should I just worrie about recompile the libs after the fact?
Autie
i would install everything first, then worry
New0rder
where can I varify the compile flags?
anything I could use for a P4 HT box?
Autie
use as in?
HeppyCat
HT?
New0rder
well, I had bad luck with -O3
so I'm sticking os O2
file flag wise.
Autie
http://gentoo-wiki.com/CFLAGS
HeppyCat
ive been usin -O3 without problems on my sparc
New0rder
baa. I like the idea of a boot strap. but is it really worth it? :)
stage 3 it is.
Autie
your choice
New0rder
maybe recompile for sh*ts and giggles with a nice of 19 once I'm running.
Autie
yeah
HeppyCat
i dont really see the point of stage 1
i mean, my hardware has been out long enough
if stage 3 hasnt been optimized by now, i seriously doubt i could make it any better
Psych
Welcome to our next contestant, jerkface!
zaei
Glarble.
Autie: Yes, it worked until 12:49 today.
It just cut off.
I replaced it.
New0rder
I can never remember the proper way to use the USE= in the make.conf.. the USE variable in here are switch that you _NEED_ common amount all applications?
Autie
zaei: reboot it, also modems or switches connected to it
New0rder: use flags make packages compile for different packages, when -flag, it provide packages to compile for the use with other packages
s/provide/prevent
zaei
Autie: I replaced it.
HeppyCat
replaced with a broken one?
zaei
No, replaced with a new one.
Autie
:/
pinkerton
did you try resetting it?
New0rder
USE="pic nptl nptlonly win32codecs usb gphoto2 unicode kde ldap xinerama samba acpi cups dga cdr truetype imap mmx mmx2 qt sse sse2 a52 aac ffmpeg mp3 mpeg xvid"
Psych
I think it's getting bigger.
New0rder
KDE, all multimedia type files.
pinkerton
oh Psych you know it is!
Autie
New0rder: -arts
zaei
pinkerton: No, I replaced it.
pinkerton
must be nice :-p
Autie
zaei: i think he ask to reset it
like, try it please
:)
zaei
That would require more work than I'm willing to put forth =P
Autie
also reset the nic connect to it
zaei
I already spent 2 hours on this =P
Autie
maybe replace it again, with the old one
zaei
I needed to replace it anyway... we've had a wirelessG router sitting around since christmas.
Autie
or read the fine manual
zaei
Bahahaha.
Autie
:p
HeppyCat
aww 2 hours
zaei
I had to read the manual the try and figure something out with the new one.
Not helpful.
HeppyCat
i say give up and make your own router
and if you dont
i'll throw this 7.62x39 round at you that i just found on the floor
Autie
ask someone who knows things about computers
zaei
Autie: In the netgear router web based setup, why is the "Enable Wireless Access Point" checkbox disabled?
;)
Autie
heu, for security reasons?
zaei
Enabling wireless access is unsafe, and so we won't let you do it. Thank you for purchasing this fine netgear wireless router.
