what does the oneshot do when emerging?
what is the significance of not adding a package to the world profile for later updating?

jm^: this ET isnt fast to dl..
jm^
Hrm
Google a bit and see if you can find any faster mirrors
Gidzz0r_
im on 33% now..

jm^
And put it in distfiles/
I bet you can find much faster mirrors just by googling "enemy-territory download"
Gidzz0r_
ill do it!
jm^
Affirmative.
crc
I'm sorry for asking the obvious but is their documentation that tells me how to configure /etc/mysql/my.cnf?
Agios
why would you want to change the defaults?
crc
each mysql process is sucking down 25 Megs of resident memory, 90 megs virtual
actually it seems that my system usually runs about 9 copies of each server in general.
Whats causeing this behavior. I noticed apache is also running via 9 processes
http://pastebin.com/561935
Gidzz0r_
i think it has something to do with the performance
crc
how do I configure the number of servers spawned?
Gidzz0r_
if i knew..
crc
forked() or what ever.
Gidzz0r_
i have never fiddled with it..
apache takes its power and mysql too..
i just live with it..
:<
crc
oh well I guess I'll just give mysql its 275 megs of ram.
it refused to startup after tyring to trim down its memory consumption. :(
its actually consuming 990 megs of virtual adress space.
The thing is linux uses optimistic memory allocation. Meaning it will tell every process its giving them what they ask for but wont actually allocate memory untill the adress space is touched.
oh well I'll live with it. :)
it just creeps me out.
Any one ever had the OOM killer make an appearence?
OOM Killer is a legendary beast that comes out to take away greedy programs that have taken more then their share of memory. On a full moon it is said that when pysical memory is low a process or 2 is taken away.
in to the night.

hello
curious, anyone here using the python cdb? wondering about the frequency of seg faults appearing ..
Agios
no clue
Durentu
Agios, cool
just that the caching after a sync was kinda slow
(5-10minutes) and poked around a bit
I guess I'll just break my machine to find out, haha
squidy
is this the place to get instant help? :)
JC^Omega
sure
by instant you mean if you read the manual
;)
narf ;)
I'll always lend my advice tho
Agios
#Gentoo motto: We're not happy until you're not happy.
squidy
well i'm stuck with something I can't find documented anywhere
I uninstalled X (emerge unmerge x11-xorg)
now I'm trying to emerge modular X (7.0) and xkbdata won't emerge because of a block
the block is from xkeyboard-config
Durentu
python-cdb is really* fast
squidy
now I tried emerge unmerge xkeyboard-config >> but emerge says it's not installed :S
and that's the question: Why does emerge thinks that xkeyboard-config is still installed?
is this clear? :S
that the problem, it says that its not there
therefore I can't unmerge it, and it still blocks the emerge
Mank0r
you'll probably find that its trying to install both
have a closer look at what its installing
squidy
I'll check the list
Mank0r
and then find the 2 conflicting packages, find what is dependant on them, and read the ebuilds and check the use flags to see if you can change one of the conflicting packages to something different
squidy
conflicting packages are xkeyboard-config and xkbdata-1.0.1
so far, I didn't see both of them in the emerge pretend list
ok I double checked with grep, and they are both listed to be installed
I think I'll just add xkeyboard to the .mask lol
it's xkeyboard-0.7.0-r1 that blocks my emerge
ok both packages depends on xkdcomp
so I decided to emerge xkbdata first then i'll emerge the whole Modular X stuff
I think this should solve the problem
Mank0r
:)
squidy
so i'll give u a conditional thank for your advices lol
Mank0r
hehe
squidy
Mank0r: it worked! the xkeyboard-config does not list anymore!
Mank0r

I need help, i'm reading the gentoo manual at gentoo.org and installed grub, but when i dosent boot, I just say GRUB millions of times
err, when i restart, it dosent boot
Mank0r
you need to boot off the liveCD again
go through the steps of mounting everything and chrooting etc
(obviously, all the configs you need are configured
FatMom
im chrooted
Gurkan
YOU'RE chrooted? feel these nipples!
Mank0r
make sure you cp /proc/mounts
Gurkan
(Action) replicates you cp /proc/mounts and hands it to sure
FatMom
hmm
Mank0r
and then run through the grub install again
i cant tell you where you've gone wrong
but thats how you sort it
:)
FatMom
this?
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
Gurkan

tuesday
Mank0r
theeres that
FatMom
that was already done
Mank0r
and also cp /proc/mounts /etc/mtab or semething
FatMom
oh you meant this
grep -v rootfs /proc/mounts > /etc/mtab
but there was something wierd after the grub-install
end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
looks bad
or not ?
Mank0r
i think thats fine
its just saying that it cant find the floppy drive
