Freman
yes... I is... but WHY?!?!?!?!
all of a sudden the machine just doesn't talk to me over ssh any more... imap shuts down... all I can do is ping it )c:
pinkerton
can you finger it?
that might get it going
Freman
that pasting gomes from a top I had running all night over ssh, it was the last thing top recorded before the system killed it
pinkerton
always works with my women i mean machine
Freman
meh
I thik I found the problem
Jan 17 10:35:40 priya ide0: reset timed-out, status=0xd0
Jan 17 10:35:40 priya hda: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
Jan 17 10:35:40 priya ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jan 17 10:35:40 priya hda: drive not ready for command
I had another screen logged in and running tail -f on the messages log
the system lies tho - there's nothing at all wrong with that hard disk, it's been running since forever in another box quite happily...
I'll try it... but that cable ran a 10 gig hdd for 4 years... only reason it got the 40 now is cos I wanted to preserve the 10 gig install (c:
priya hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x20
that's the first error
awrite, I'll do it (c:
there should be some new cables form the via epia boards we buy
(Action) goes off to work to swap an ide cable
there
have swapped cable
and while I was in there... I fixed the jumpers for cpu speed (c:
had manged to get them backwards so it was running at 105 mhz not 333
we'll see how that goes

CRASY MADE BITCHES
zaei
Bitches.
sinthetek
hey, i have these packages blocking other packages
but i don't even want the packages being blocked to be installed
i tried adding it to package.provided but it didn't work
and i'm confused about why it's doing what it's doing
Freman
(Action) wonders how much work he would get done if he went on breaks every hour like the rest of the staff seems to do
classic freman crash: if (!defined('OK')) {die('oops...');}
pinkerton
well
maybe you should work faster like everybody else so you can take breaks
)
Freman
if it wasn't for the constant interuptions I'd get an hours work done in half, not in 2
nothng like trying to code with someone comming in every 10 minutes

* Upgrade failed in stage 2. You still have a fully functional
after upgrading to 2005.0 on amd64
does this give me reason to go to that system locally.. or is there some nice fix for it
zara / # ls
-bash: /bin/ls: No such file or directory
:P
guess i'd better be heading over there :)
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/howtos/index.xml?part=1&chap=1
and it sort.. like .. died in the middle of that update script
yeah
but right now i got nothing anymore
hereh
zara bin # emerge
-bash: /usr/bin/emerge: /usr/bin/python: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
life is never easy :P
ohwell..slap in a rescue cd.. make the last data backup
and then reinstall
*Gasp*
does media-libs/gd absolutely require X11 nowadays?
sinthetek
isn't gd used to generate images?
these ebuild commands don't seem to be working like specified in the gentoo handbook :(
Gurkan
Buttock Crunchies.
LoBoToMy
someone knows why internet stops working after i chroot during gentoo install?
Gurkan
no, never, not me
theBear
LoBoToMy, 'cos you didn't make/copy over the resolv.conf file from /etc to /mnt/gentoo/etc
LoBoToMy
cp -L /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf
i follow those instructions
but still won't work :/
theBear
hmm... cat /etc/resolv.conf from inside the chroot
LoBoToMy
nameserver is ok
theBear
what do you mean the net stops working ?
LoBoToMy
i ping google.com for example
then i chroot
ping google.com wont resolve
zia
pinging a straight ip works?
LoBoToMy
i'll try that brb
yep
so it half works
zia
what does your chroot etc/resolv.conf look like?

LoBoToMy
nameserver 192.168.0.1
search burp
that's it
zia
is there anything like 'host' or 'nslookup' available in that chroot?
LoBoToMy
you mean as commands?
no
zia
so when you exit your chroot.. all is fine?
LoBoToMy
yep
i've followed the handbook, download everything then chroot and pouf no internet :/
zia
what's .1 ? router/box/etc?
LoBoToMy
router
traumahound
no net or no dns?
LoBoToMy
oh
no dns sorry
traumahound
try using the ips for your isp's name servers.
LoBoToMy
still says unknown host
zia
wild guess
but what does /etc/nsswitch.conf say at the hosts: line ?
LoBoToMy
files dns
zia
you just untarred a stage right ?
LoBoToMy
yes
traumahound
which one?
dunno if it would be the cause but some of them perms are screwed up on.
zia
you used the j flag with untarring it?
err
argl
p
would that be
LoBoToMy
ok
sinthetek
i think i found my problem
LoBoToMy
im not sure wich one
sinthetek
for some reason emerge alsa-utils is downloading and trying to work with alsa-driver
LoBoToMy
ok got it
pentium3-2005.1
traumahound
chmod 0755 /mnt/gentoo after you untar it
LoBoToMy
more precisely i did tar xvjpf /mnt/cdrom/stages/stage3-pentium3-2005.1-r1.tar.bz2
from the installation cd i just downloaded
can i use stage3-x86 instead of pentium3 ?
zia
could try it, but i'd wipe your target filesystems first before untarring it
LoBoToMy
ok
tnx for the help guys
i need some sleep i'll try that tomorrow :)
