grrrr
dbtid
?
you keep dying
spale
hi!
dbtid
hi
thank you
g'night :)
phr_
hello people
i know i shouldn't ask here ...but i need some help with a microprocessor
anyone has 10 minutes?
dbtid
go ahead
phr_
i have a 16f87 microprocessor
dbtid
and that is?
phr_
i'm looking for something similar or better
or at least a programming manual ..i'm a noob at asm ..i have "some" knowledge of vb, c or delphi

dbtid
you're going to make me go google for it, aren't you?
phr_
it's a microprocessor with time stamp and memory ... to be honest, i don't know more on it ..read the pdf manual but it's greek to me :P
dbtid
lol
so you don't know anything about the hardware, but you want something similar?
seems wrong, somehow.
phr_
?
i have the pdf manual ...but it's all hex ...
dbtid
why aren't you reading up on the 16f87 to learn more about it
phr_
i spent a night reading the manual ..but i really don't have the basics on hardware
dbtid
what don't you get?
phr_
how can i interact with it ?
dbtid
usually you get a development kit
phr_
i connect it to my com port (wich is actually a usb port with a com2usb cable)
dbtid
yeah, and then you follow the directions you got for the kit
phr_
no, i only got the proc and a cd with the pdf
dbtid
what's on the CD?
phr_
the pdf and some "demo apps" ...
dbtid
what's in the demo apps?
phr_
for starters, when i connect the cables windows doesn;t say nothing
shouldn't windows find it or something?
dbtid
it should find the serial to usb cable, yes
but maybe you need to install a driver for it/
?
phr_
yes
done that, the cable is ok
dbtid
so... what do you expect windows to do further?
phr_
if i connect only the cable a get a "ding" ...when i connect the cable to the proc i don't get nothing

dbtid
don't expect to.
windows isn't going to do anything in response to hooking up something to a serial port.
please tell me you're in school or something like that?
phr_
when i run the demo.exe the application shows me hex window and some ascii chars ...
yes
:)
dbtid
phew
phr_
:P
why ?
dbtid
if you had a degree in this stuff, i was going to have to hunt down you and your previous instructors...
phr_
i'm 9th grade
dbtid
anyway
rotfl
ok, i'll turn on my filters for you then :)
ok, look
when you connect your pic to your PC via the serial port, you have to know what the other end is expecting the PC side to do.
so you're going to need some documentation on the board.
what kind of board do you have?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PIC_microcontroller
read this for a bit too
phr_
it's a microphone, a switch, a led and the proc
dbtid
is there any indication of a part number on the PCB itself?
like say near a website name?
or a company name?
phr_
nop ...
the only number i found on it was this
16f87
dbtid
where did you get the board?
phr_
well ... from a store in Bari, Italy
dbtid
lol
phr_
it's suppose to "filter" some impulse on the mic and save them on the pic with a time stamp
dbtid
well, without any more information, you're dead in the water. you're going to need to go hunt down what that thing is before you can know what to do with it.
phr_
oh, the board there isn't a real mic, i put it .. it had a line it and a line out
so the signal only passes throw the board the gets out on the line out
dbtid
i understand
there's no other printing, anywhere?
phr_
nop ...
dbtid
bummer
phr_
it's 1 cm sq ...
dbtid
the chip?
phr_
the board .. actually no, has 2-3
cm
it's the size of a usb key
dbtid
http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/33023a.pdf
that's useful
phr_
i'll have a look :)
that's what i have :)
i believe it's the same pdf
dr3f
does anyone know which api function is responsble for adding item to a list controll under win32 ?
dbtid
phr_: i wish i could point you where to go. when you bought it, was it in a box or something? or did you just buy something that looked cool and hoped to do something with it?
phr_
and more, when they gave me the cd it was a small one, and on my mbp i can't insert small cd's
this was suppose to listen the line in for any dtmf tones and save them on the pic
dbtid
then i'd bet the cd's have something on it that you can use to read the pic data
probably, those applications send commands via the serial port and read back the responses.
phr_
more, should also decode the dtmf codes and convert them to numbers
it's a listener to show you what numbers you've dialed and at what hour ...
thanks for the help ..if i find something i'll get back ;)
dbtid
have fun
phr_
ciao
ledche
hi everybody !!! Can somebody tell me how to call dll function from asm
are you there
