erdbeer
It's not in the same /16
kernelcorn
well it looks like the Linux build of Chrome/Chromium Stable is finally patched against Logjam.
erdbeer
kernelcorn, do you want to try to exit on my node?

hi
can someone help me with tor settings?
im trying to use a website on tor, but it's not fucntioning properly like it should like in IE
not sure what settings is disabling its appearance
cacahuatl
Can you describe "not functioning properly" in more detail?
iSee__
links and graphics are working properly
aren't*
graphics does not display, and links do not open
ticktock
q
cacahuatl
Is it possible that it depends on something like silverlight or flash?
iSee__
can i message you the site?
17track(.net) google it

cacahuatl
it's got a duff cert for it's "cdn"
Validity
Not Before: Sep 23 00:00:00 2014 GMT
Not After : Sep 23 23:59:59 2015 GMT
iSee__
what does that mean?
cacahuatl
it means your browser should be rejecting connections to it, it's no longer valid. Possibly the difference is that IE isn't using TLS but Tor Browser is?
Basically, their website is broken, the browser is fine.
iSee__
can i get tor to not reject connections to it, since it's functional in IE?
im on the latest stable tor browser
cacahuatl
you could change the https everywhere rules or temporarily disable it.
iSee__
great, thanks so much cachuatl
Peng
Maybe it's actually being MITMed o_o
kernelcorn
no, I'm seeing it too. Expires Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 3:59:59 PM
I forget who it was, but some company recommended that their users set their clocks back as a workaround...
cacahuatl
:P worst plan
kernelcorn
happened earlier this year, it was pretty hilarious
Peng
kernelcorn: Maybe you're actually being MITMed too
kernelcorn
https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=17track.net&s=121.11.76.117&latest
cacahuatl
if they're being MITM'd, it's with a valid cert and key and they're sitting pretty close to the server or have good coverage.
kernelcorn
well, according to SSL Labs their SSL security really isn't that great
CooloutAC
holy cow i connected to irc on tor i can't believe it :)
kernelcorn
CooloutAC: some networks allow Tor, others don't. Freenode does not, OFTC does most of the time.
I'm sure a fair number of us on this channel are using Tor. I usually do.
CooloutAC
kernelcorn: i've never been able to even on oftc, i guess i'm really unlucky
it either says banned or no more connections allowed usually for me
Peng
Yeah, that's how it goes. You're unlucky
CooloutAC
lol
scrambler
hi
does anyone knows how to configure a whonix gateway VM to be used as a tor bridge?
will this help? https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Hosting_a_%28private%29_%28obfuscated%29_bridge_or_%28exit%29_relay

clysonto
I'd like to report a problem with the GetTor service.
It seems that in case of email rejection due to attachment size limit, the GetTor bot sends an email that links to old and broken mirrors of TBB.
Specifically, those two addresses:
https://www.oignon.net/dist/torbrowser/
https://tor.beme-it.de/dist/torbrowser/
kernelcorn
sounds like a bug
cacahuatl
https://bugs.torproject.org/ you should file a report here
clysonto
thx
I tried filing a ticket but it required registration, I tried to register but hit a Captcha wall and after 3 failed tries it blocked me. It seems the Captcha settings are very high, I.E. rejecting partial solutions and not allowing alternate numeral Captchas, unlike most other sites.
cacahuatl
see the first paragraph under "unofficial documentation" on the front page
clysonto
thx
arma
right. the internet is full of advertisers who auto create accounts on trac systems everywhere.
fortunately, they're automated, and thus dumb. :)
clysonto
One of the problems with Captcha system is that on global sites they're biased toward Latin languages native speakers. Ideally, Captchas should adapt to the local language of the users by his IP, though it could actually cause further obstacles for Tor users.
Peng
s/could/would/
ilv
clysonto: thanks for the ticket, I just replied to you with some questions
bigfondue
Those captchas that show pictures of signs with numbers would be less biased toward latin alphabet users
Chocolate_Chip
bigfondue, is there any non-google alternative to chaptcha
kernelcorn
clysonto: if you can't make a ticket, I can fill it out for you
bigfondue
I don't know, are the captchas I mentioned by google?
ilv
kernelcorn: someone already created the ticket
kernelcorn
all right
Chocolate_Chip
bigfondue, yes. Rechaptcha is a google service
They invented the whole thing, IIRC
kernelcorn
no, they bought the service
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReCAPTCHA
"is a user-dialogue system originally developed by <list of people> at Carnegie Mellon University, and acquired by Google in September 2009"
Chocolate_Chip
Ah
I bet Google will go to court for their Monopolies
Just like Microsoft. Though, they (adly) only got a slap on the wrist
*sadly
kernelcorn
I doubt it, they aren't acquiring, extending, and extinguishing
arma
kernelcorn: tor researcher nick hopper was on the original captcha paper, even
kernelcorn
ah, I didn't realize that
meenuh
hello!
arma
kernelcorn: yep. small world!
clysonto
ilv, I can't find the ticket, so that means either it was already deleted or i just can't find nothing there.
probably the former, though
anyway, I added a comment here, and I think that finishes my involvement on that matter:
https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/9036#comment:15
ilv
clysonto: what about #17141?
Volis
Hey, it looks to me that my outbound traffic to port 80 is blocked. IRC and Torrents work but www doesn't. I cannot get the default setup of Tor to work either. Can anyone help?
I'm using Vidalia 0.2.21
cacahuatl
Any particular reason you're using Vidalia instead of Tor Browser?
Volis
yes, availability cacahuatl
cacahuatl
Use Tor Browser instead.
I'm not sure how "availability" affects it? Vidalia is no longer maintained, if it is having problems they're unlikely to be fixed.
clysonto
So I understand from ilv response there that at least on some projects Transifex is obsolete, which begs the question where it isn't and should volunteers even bother helping the translation effort there?
Volis
cacahuatl: You can please paste the magnet link to tor browser?
(by availability I meant that I only have Vidalia available, need internet to download Tor which I do not have)
cacahuatl
I don't believe that there is an "official" torrent.
Volis
Any torrent would do, I cannot download from any server.
cacahuatl
However you're welcome to download from it just ensure that it comes with the signature and that you can verify the fingerprint of the tor browser developer key out of band.
5.0.3 is the latest version
yano
i don't think the Tor Browser is officially available via bittorrent
