ASmith_
just trying to narrow down the source which is providing the maleformed hostnames
your tor source link which specifically shows the !string is valid hostname is helpful and appreciated cacahuatl
maiena
cacahuatl: the solution doesn't seem to work on my part https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9318673f9b199589fffe
setting the user and pass on the object does not make any difference
if you run the code, the user and pass is not actually set for the circuit, they are None for all CIRC events
and the ip address returned from that url differs from the last hop in the path
cacahuatl: those attributes are probably just for reading values, not setting them
do others have tips on how to select an arbitrary exit node per request?
without using NODE.exit in the url, because that messes with ssl host verification
zoltan
maiena: presume you mean a specific exit, not arbitrary, for that you have the ExitNodes argument
maiena
zoltan, i would do two concurrent requests with the same url
and they must exit through different nodes
ExitNodes would not help in this case
zoltan
have a look at stem, that's probably the easiest way to do that
maiena
zoltan: yes, i use it, here is an example of a way that has been suggested here, but it doesn't work https://gist.github.com/anonymous/9318673f9b199589fffe
zoltan
that script only makes a connection with a specific 3-hop path? if it had worked, which you say it doesn't
slackie
(Action) hi there \o
TORques
maiena: don't kill the tor process! better send a signal INT, ce naiba http://pastebin.com/42EnWFuS
lol

maiena
zoltan: it does work, but the the circuit with the password is not used for the request
TORques: it's good enough for an example :P
TORques
and protect control port with password against attacks
cacahuatl
maiena: It works for me, but I don't use the pycurl. stuff.
maiena
cacahuatl: how do you send the request?
cacahuatl
Just using curl, `curl -x socks5h://username:password@127.0.0.1:9050 $URL`
maiena
let's test
cacahuatl
http://0bin.net/paste/tWjDHxzCPjz2UFXe#u0NKRc8p5e4R8UxPNOn1R6QA6qYSRbrXuLCKoLhJQFq I just make it print out the curl command
the randint is just to ensure it's not a false positive
Where should I send the invoice for doing the development work for you?
maiena
it does work with bare curl indeed
cacahuatl: i'll run a node in your name and mumur your nick at night :P
cacahuatl
fair do's
maiena
cacahuatl: <3
but the pycurl thing is unexpected
cacahuatl
eh, I can take a poke but I don't do a lot of python.
maiena
i bet it will work if i just pass everything in pycurl.PROXY
TORques
wheat
wrong window
cacahuatl
nah it works
check your proxytype though, using a static value for an enum like that seems a bad idea: http://0bin.net/paste/2e6aCu8r7MdUIv+S#ghpqUlcGjn69pfrObyBokp0I6HJ4PezWmhYHBssYpW7 maiena
maiena
7 means PROXYTYPE_SOCKS5_HOSTNAME
cacahuatl
so just use that value :P
maiena
it is not implemented in the stable version of pycurl
athough it is in master
cacahuatl
...
maiena
it is the same as using socks5h://
cacahuatl
and...are you running the version in master or stable?
when you're importing the lib

maiena
stable, that's why i use the integer
cacahuatl
Yeah, that's your problem.
maiena
it is passed directly to curl
TORques
maiena: so, you don't trust the tor authority if you want to build your own circuit through ;-)
you can develop the app to randomly pick a guard, a middle and a exit
randomized by application
I don't think too, the high traffic and long time nodes are run by volunteers ;-)
you know very well, the most big nodes in our region are run by a single company
the honeypot SRL ;-)
maiena
cacahuatl: enlightment!
pycurl is packaged with curl 7.37
toxicbacon
hi
links?
oh and btw is my ip visible?
maiena
bcacahuatl: ut it does work if i switch the curl binary with a newer version, like 7.41
toxicbacon
set cloak on
maiena
toxicbacon: yes
toxicbacon
how do i reply to other people
<maiena>
?
maiena
TORques: oh i trust them all :P
toxicbacon: you just did
toxicbacon
oh
ok
revenant1
hehe
toxicbacon
frick
how do i set the cloak on xchat
maiena
you have to ask the irc operator to set you up
toxicbacon
is it on / msg nickserv?
maiena
at least that's the case on freenode, i'm not sure which is the right place here
toxicbacon
oh
revenant1
yes, somewhere there
maiena
there, you have to drop a message on #freenode
toxicbacon
<maiena> do you have any good tor links
and just out of curiosity which os are you using?
TORques
lol
toxicbacon: it seems you are in the wrong chat - no porn, drugs or weapons here ;-)
toxicbacon
this is for tor browser right?
CooloutAC
TORques: i think the gov't took them all down
pretty soon tor will only be able to connect to .onion sites
TORques
it's facts: aussie govt run some .onion sites for more than a year
CooloutAC
i will still have facebook to connect to
TORques
tor is a symbol of freedom
CooloutAC
you're just not free to use to it connect to oftc
and pretty soon the rest of the web
TORques
today I coonected here through tor
CooloutAC
i coudln't, and never could
revenant1
it can be used with oftc, just certain exits get banned
CooloutAC
today it didn't even say no more new connections, it just said banned lol
TORques
not all exit nodes are banned by OFTC
revenant1
ya i've seen those messages separately
CooloutAC
revenant1: its never worked for me, i still think its a myth
