TORques: thanks for taking care of the bug report ;-)
TORques
bug solved! ;-)
atagar
TORques: Ah, I see. Python translates newlines by default (called universal newline translation), but 'b' probably disables that. Your suggested change though probaby breaks python3 for windows. Does 'rbU' work?
TORques
<atagar> I don't know. I use Python 2.7
atagar
I mean does 'rbU' work under python 2.7.
maiena
U is used only in test mode
*text
TORques
the most open source code written for Python fail with Python 3 because the syntax changings and I use Python 2.7.
atagar
TORques: That is incorrect. You can support python2 alongside python3. Two approaches are to do a 2to3 conversion in setup.py or just be careful to support both. Stem does the later. Most projects simply don't do it because they're lazy, or have dependencies that don't support both versions (so they're stuck).

TORques
for example asciidoc - I must uninstall Python 3 and reinstall python 2.7
atagar
Umm... you can also have both interpreters installed. It's just a matter of which one is the default (ie, what 'python' symlinks to - python2 or python3).
TORques
I had a lot of compilation problems with both version installed
atagar
Gotcha. Maybe things are harder on windows.
TORques
I must move on linux
atagar
highly recommended :P
TORques
I am an XP old school but I will upgrade my PC for linux too
Lucky
(Action) is performing periodic system maintenance.
Looks like Tor relased 0.2.6. Do those who care about such things want me to upgrade Tonga to tor-experimental-0.2.7?
Since Tonga typically runs the experimental branch.
isis
Lucky: i think that would be a good idea, since Tonga would gain pinning Ed25519 ’ RSA1024 keys for bridges
(Action) is not sure which other prop#220 and prop#228 improvements would apply to Tonga, since Tonga doesn't really have microdescs and does other things different to the other DirAuths
Lucky: thanks for doing that! :)
Lucky
Thanks, isis. I will upgrade today.
isis: Tonga's upgrade is complete. Thanks again!
isis
Lucky: awesome! thanks
i will watch things on the bridgedb side and make sure nothing catches on fire :)

(Action) hi there \o
CooloutAC
doesn't work for me, node i'm on is banned
ruds
TORques: there are a few nodes OFTC hasn't banned
CooloutAC
lol
Peng
TORques:
oops
TORques: Welcome to OFTC. Use of Tor is usually permitted when some as****e isn't flooding.
TORques: Patches welcome.
Nuclear winter as well.
TORques
maybe this XChat is too fast for OFTC ;-)
Peng
TORques: No, that's the error message you get when Tor's disabled. The number of new permitted connections is zero, as it were.
TORques

i'm setting 'Log debug stdout' in my config, but stem rises OSError: Process terminated: Your log may contain sensitive information - you're logging more than "notice". Don't log unless it serves an important reason. Overwrite the log afterwards.
which is the correct way to run tor with debug logging?
cacahuatl
Are you sure that's why it's terminating?
maiena
it works if i set it to notice instead of debug
cacahuatl
You're launching Tor from stem itself? If you launch it from the command line with the same set of options, what happens?
isis
ASmith_: you should have voice in #tor now
ASmith_
thanks
isis
ASmith_: i apologise for you being quieted/devoiced, and i must admit that i don't really understand the circumstances surrounding it, but it does appear you were treated unfairly
ASmith_
yes I was treated like a pile of manure and I wrote a very supportive WIKI tor help guide, run a Tor forum and run a Tor chat lobby on Retroshare, Isis
isis
okay, try not to be angry with velope for it. :)
ASmith_
I'll try, it appeared to be entirely one-sided IMO
ruds
(Action) bashes their skull against a knife
ASmith_
Here is the rather extensive WIKI material I wrote which is entirely supportive of Tor isis if you wish to see
http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/RetroShare_Tor
isis
after all, velope is a volunteer and he's pretty much the only person who has been consistently willing to put time and effort into this channel and #nottor& since most tor devs have given up on taking care of those channels
ASmith_
I've helped dozens of new tor users setup Hidden Services through that wiki page alone and 1-1 instruction
isis
ASmith_: thanks for helping to teach people about tor! :)
ASmith_
I don't see how that is a excuse for abuse and outragious behavior by a mod here but thank you isis
ruds
why does that retroshare article suggest adding weird PPAs to install tor browser from,
isis
ASmith_: there's a new tor-teachers mailing list that you might be interested in https://lists.torproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tor-teachers
ASmith_
Yes we've had many Russian and Russian regional Ukraine and near nations join in
hi ruds that wiki page is being moved to github and will be updated after the move
thanks, I'll bookmark that list and repost the link in the tor forum for Retroshare users also
ruds
ASmith_: you didn't answer my question
ASmith_
Which specific links are you referring to ruds?
ruds
"that retroshare article" should be descriptive enough
ASmith_
I see multiple torproject.org links listed in the Obtaining Tor
the steps, examples, extensive materials is more than simply a article ruds
ruds
lmfao
ASmith_
if there is anything comparable in a wiki workup, please post the link so I can include that as helpful also ruds
are you helping to develop features with tor and tor projects also isis ?
isis has there been any updates or further news regarding windows 10 users and tor ?
isis
yes, i work on tor and other tor projects relating to bridges and pluggable transports
the most recent thing was implementing prop#188/#7144
i know nothing of windows 10, though
is there some problem running tor on windows 10?
ASmith_
wonderful isis, windows 10 has from all reports very extensive telemetry and security based networks are debating and questioning if a small number of windows 10 users would effectively defeat much of the privacy and security of their networks
no problem with tor on win-10, just the telemetry features isis
isis
tor browser disables telemetry
ASmith_
part of the OS, not sure if that is realistic isis
but just asked and wondering, ty isis
isis
oh, i see& so there is telemetry *in* windows 10. sorry, i misunderstood.
ASmith_
really, really hardcore telemetry in the win-10 OS itself, sends a payload of all the keystrokes, filenames, urls, texts, images etc. to multiple known and unknown servers about every 30min
cacahuatl
I guess concerned users should use tails. It is non-trivial (impossible?) as an application to try to run inside an operating system that is actively trying to betray you.
isis
wow. windows 10 sounds insane.
ASmith_
its a concern yes isis, pretty early on however
CooloutAC
ASmith_: some people ended up installing that on their win 7 and win 8 boxes too lol
tk goodness i always read what the recommended updates are and almost never install them
isis
i would highly recommend that users concerned with privacy and anonymity not use windows 10 at all (or windows anything at all, preferably), and follow cacahuatl's suggestion to use Tails.
ASmith_
yes cacahuatl and hello, live tails would be a alt yes but I'd probably go with shutting down my win network drivers
zoltan
ASmith_: you of course tested this out with windows10 and tcpdump?
