it is necessary to install a certifcate in a separate process?
for full security?
Bulbasaur123
do i have bad exit policy or why i dont have exit flag see link for policies: https://torstatus.blutmagie.de/router_detail.php?FP=4f6edb18f230788b3173c0d015e8c2745e4140bb or could i have something else configured badly or is that site just wrong about my relays exit status?
kernelcorn
Bulbasaur123: please don't use torstatus.blutmagie.de, please use globe.torproject.org or atlas.torproject.org
torstatus is very old, no longer maintained, and we've been warned that it may disappear soon
Bulbasaur123
thanks for those links torstatus was the only one i found by googling :P hmm it seems that all my exit policies that i set manually went to ipv6 and not to ipv4
cacahuatl
Probably related to 'w Bandwidth=20'
it's a (very) new relay, I don't think it's been properly measured yet.

Please read Roger's blog post on the lifecycle of Tor relays - https://blog.torproject.org/blog/lifecycle-of-a-new-relay

hi
Salambo
am I fine if I symlink the "start-tor-browser" script instead of the "start-tor-browser.desktop" one?
cacahuatl
Why symlink?

Salambo
cacahuatl: to get it in my path so I can just type "tbb" for example to launch it
cacahuatl
`echo "alias tbb=\"~/path/to/tbb\"" >> .bashrc`?
I think symlinking is probably okay though, it should be alright automagically detecting it's "real" path
Salambo
oh yea thats another solution too
cacahuatl: the thing is my symlink is working fine if I symlink to tor-browser_en-US/Browser/start-tor-browser, but it doesnt if I symlink to tor-browser_en-US/start-tor-browser.desktop
and since start-tor-browser.desktop contains some stuff in it I was wondering if that was a problem for security
cacahuatl
I don't have an env that does .desktop stuff, I haven't for years, the shellscript works fine for launching and there aren't any further security impliations between running the shellscript or the .desktop that I'm aware of, the desktop is just for convenience I believe.
Salambo
got it cacahuatl
Peng
Do .desktop files add anything other than a friendly name and cute icon?
cacahuatl
nope, they just launch the shell script, it seems :P in a round-the-houses sort of way.
Salambo
anyway whenever I try to launch the .desktop with a symlink or alias to its path location I get a "/usr/bin/env: ./Browser/execdesktop: No such file or directory"
cacahuatl
Like I said, dunno about .desktop, but the shellscript works.
Salambo
yep, no problem with the shellscript
cacahuatl
the .desktop tries to run it's own shellscript, that then calls start-tor-browser. I'm not sure how it tries to work out it's own location, it might be that it's searching for itself within the symlink dir rather than the real location, since it uses relative pathing it will fail if that is the case.
Bulbasaur123
pff it took like 4 hours for my windows tor exit relay to get alot of traffic and it only got 4G mobile connection :P now that i have server with 1 Gbit/1 Gbit connection it feels like forever to get traffic hopefully my Consensus Weight goes up tomorrow :3
cacahuatl
Might want to set up a MyFamily if you're running multiple relays :)

hi
i would like to map a request with certain socks user/pass to specific circuits
with stem it is possible to attach a stream to a circuit, but i can't figure out how to get the the socks auth data used to make the request
qwerty1
afaik it isn't available on the control port; that would require patching tor
what's the application?
maiena
qwerty1: i would like to make two requests simultaneously from different countries
a possible workaround would be to append a key to the url, then read that key when the stream is created, but it seems the full url is not exposed in a stream object
cacahuatl
ExitMap does this, probably a good place to start.
maiena
how would i go about accessing the url?
cacahuatl: thanks, i will look into that
cacahuatl
qwerty1
i'm wrong about it not being available btw
thought so

maiena
qwerty1: hm, where is it exposed?
qwerty1
maiena
qwerty1: thanks

hi all
cypherman
hi ppl
i'm trying to set my own mail server at home
and gmail wont accept my emails, where is a good place to ask about this?
srg
that has nothign to do with tor
cypherman: ^
however, almost all email services will reject mail from residential and/or dynamic IPs
cypherman
srg: then i asked "where is a good place to ask about this?"
srg
you need a static IP, proper reverse DNS
even then, most email providers will put it in spam
cypherman
srg: ok that's some
thanks
srg
to avoid that, you need SPF DNS records, DKIM/DomainKeys signing
It's not easy to setup email properly
(Action) is off to bed
good luck!
Id' recommend postfix, fyi
http://srg.io/cs/postfix.html is a good setup guide
not to toot my own horn or anything :-P
cypherman
thanks srg i will take a look
kvm234
things were better when velope was in charge

Do you know why this is happening : 10:18 -!- ERROR Closing Link: hessel0.torservers.net (No more connections
TORques
since I use Tor v0.2.7.2-alpha-dev for my relay I got new ed25519 keys: ed25519_master_id_public_key, ed25519_master_id_secret_key, ed25519_signing_cert and ed25519_signing_secret_key based on Curve25519 but it does not seems to be operational keys yet - when will be replaced the old RSA keys?
prosit: there are only a few irc networks which accept connections from tor exit nodes - many networks blacklisted their IPs
prosit
ah ok, is there a way around ?
TORques
check any irc networks and use those that accept tor connections (set your app's proxy to localhost, 9050 (or whatever port your torsocks port is) and socks4) when tor is running.
prosit
well ...
TORques
worldnet seems to be fine
prosit
thanks I will try
s7r
TORques: that is your ed25519 identity
it works, but we also keep the rsa identities for backwards compatibility for some time in the future
eventually we will completely drop rsa and only use ed25519
you should backup your ed25519_master_id_secret_key and rsa keys, in case you want to restore your relay.

TORques
try this on your browser:On the Embeddings tab uncheck Forbid Java, Forbid adobe flash, Forbid other plugins, Forbid <AUDIO> / <VIDEO>, Forbid <IFRAME>, Forbid <FRAME>, Forbid @font-face. Uncheck "ask for confirmation..." and click Okay.
but you will lose your anonimity
qwerty1
no guarantee it will go over tor
