hi
kernelcorn
hello view

Is there a way to make TBB's autoupdater work without manual interaction
cacahuatl
It checks periodically?
view
say I'm running Tor Browser headless with xvfb can I have some environment variable to have it apply updates automaticaly?
cacahuatl
So it's not at all related to Tor Browser? :P alright
view
cacahuatl: yes I know it checks periodically but it needs manual approval

cacahuatl
it's the same as firefox's auto-update mechanism, maybe you can find a solution for that for whatever software setup you use.
view
I think FireFox applies the updates anyway
sometimes it notifies users and then sometimes I open it to find the update being applied anyhow
ok I found there is an option to automatically apply updates without notifying. can this be configured in TBB settings file somewhere?
so it exists but I want to apply it with a configuration file I can ship
I think I found it
pref.js App.update.autor
App.update.auto
wyatha
hello
Is it possible to block relays directory?
cacahuatl
Can you clarify the question?
wyatha
tor need first to know the relays IP addresses, right?
what if tor can't know that?
cacahuatl
ah, if your experiencing censorship, use a bridge + pluggable transport
then it will fetch them over the bridge
wyatha
what is the best secure hidden email?
nighty
#tor doesn't affiliate with or discuss any hidden services
wyatha
nighty: sorry, maybe it's better to ask in #nottor.
nighty
that would be wise

I configured my tor relay to max bandwith of 16MBit/s. However it only had about 50MB traffic in 12 hours. Why is it used so rarely? https://globe.torproject.org/#/relay/49E27D74644F1B61F2DB423C9B1401690E4E6C03
I checked traffic with tor-arm
Tichodroma
how long is your relay up?
pi2
about 12 hours now
Tichodroma
wait some weeks
kvm234
it takes a few days I think
Tichodroma
at least
pi2
why does it take so long?
Tichodroma
because your relay is new and must be known to the network
pi2
also https://globe.torproject.org/#/relay/49E27D74644F1B61F2DB423C9B1401690E4E6C03 shows advertised bandwith as 228kB/s. How is this value calculated?
I did not set my limits that low

my latest relay is pretty new too Tor's uptime is 5 days 0:00 hours, with 290 circuits open. I've sent 85.48 GB and received 85.40 GB.
maybe because it's part of a family?
I don't know what makes it more popular
Tichodroma
wait
pi2
ok now I understand. I will just wait if traffic increases
Tichodroma
five days are not much
kvm234
Thx for running a relay
stemid
yes. pi2 said theirs is 12 hours and only 50MB traffic. well mine is only 10 times older and 85GB traffic.
Tichodroma
just have patience and observe
stemid
of course.
kvm234
have a fan ready to cool down your cable modem/router/something else
stemid
I'm only in it for the t-shirt
;)
kvm234
kek they are nice t shirts
I hear
Lever
is it secure to listen to radio over Tor
sqrt2
if you can do it from within tor browser (without additional plugins), then it's as safe as anything else that you would do with the browser when scripting is enabled

(Action) hi there \o
iddqd
Tor doesn't change the HTTP status codes or anything, does it?
premoboss
hi. following https://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-hidden-service.html.en i set up a web server that play as hidden service. o got the private_key an hostname. from another pf running tor, i tried to go into <string>.onion, but i cannot reach the server.
pf=PC
ncl
iddqd: no, /Tor/ doesn't, a (bad) exit node might
premoboss
the second PC use firefox->privoxy->tor, ant it works correctly.
bot server and Pc are in the same 192.68.1.x at home
iddqd
Hmm.
ncl
premoboss: can the server reach itself on the port tor is set to forward? (eg do 'curl localhost:8080' on the server)
premoboss
wait i see
on server ,i do w3m localhost and it works
ncl
what's your HiddenServicePort line, and have you restarted tor after editing the config?
premoboss
i set this in tord
HiddenServiceDir /home/www-data/hidden_service/
HiddenServicePort 80 127.0.0.1:8888
i reboot the machine, so all service restart
from PC i can do 'w3m server_ip' and it works
ncl
so, w3m to localhost:8888 works?
premoboss
wait
no ut sau: unknow URI
no it say: unknown URI
no it say: unknown URI localhost:8888
in needed, i cna provide the name.onion
if i try curl-->curl localhost:8888
curl: (7) couldn't connect to host
ncl
is the webserver set to listen on port 8888?
premoboss
i am using apache
wait
i installed apache2 without modification, so i suppose it is setted to server port 80
port.conf of apake is setted to port 80, i change to 8888 and restart both apache and tor, wait
no way
in /etc/apache2/ports.conf there
is the follow
NameVirtualHost *:80
Listen 8888
<IfModule mod_ssl.c>
Listen 443
</IfModule>
<IfModule mod_gnutls.c>
Listen 443
</IfModule>
