oye!
jjweiss
one relevant point of note is that i2p actually has their own tor client implementation called orchid (a plugin), and it might be useful in the diagnosis and triage of a certain class of issues in tor proper

Tor Browser 5.0.1 doesn't work when I configure to use burpsuite proxy as an html proxy. Tor browser just says that it's unable to find the proxy.
Someone know why ?
velope
that would be someone who doesn't feel silly googling the word burpsuite
cacahuatl
It's an awful bit of java code for MITMing yourself to "help" find security issues and replay traffic.
velope
ick
sadg
I need to use that for some reason.
I used to use with another version of tor browser. But with the newest, just doesnt work.
I searched on google, and found nothing about...

velope
torbrowser hasn't used a http proxy in many years, and now it is coded only to work correctly when directly connected to tor as its Socks proxy
sorry, we're not going to help you break your torbrowser for the sake of splicing in a http proxy
cacahuatl
also upgrade to 5.0.2
velope
i wonder if that proxy is required for internet access in some fascist network you're using
if so, we sympathize, but it would be better to try to get access via tor bridges
or perhaps the meek pluggable transport
cacahuatl
No, it's purely an MITM tool. It doesn't act as a proxy itself, it just takes in your HTTP requests, parses them, logs them, then sends them on.
sadg
Ok... I got it
Thanks

thanks Velope - it's been more than a decade since I sat in an IRC chat

is there any channel of Electronic Frontier Foundation on IRC?

wtf. my tor browser says it's 5.5a2, but on the website there is only 5.5a1...
so it says there is an update, but when i click on it it cannot find any
kvm234
that is odd
mdik
kvm234: do you use stable or unstable
?
pabs
how can I request the tor daemon to switch exit nodes?
ryonaloli_
pabs: send the SIGHUP signal to it, if you are in linux or unix
pabs
ok, thanks
ryonaloli_
(this may not work forever. it is not official behavior so it is subject to change)
kvm234
mdik: stable
pabs
a control socket would probably be a better way to have that sort of thing

ryonaloli_
you can do it through the control socket too
but i don't know how. it involves a newnym command.
pabs
is there a command-line tool for interacting with the control socket?
TomvdW
netcat
pabs
uh, ok
mdik
pabs: there are examples and it's actually not very hard
pabs
mdik: got a link?
velope
there is no command to switch exit nodes, exactly
NEWNYM on the control socket means "for future streams, use a different circuit"
Raiz
Tor is so slow nowadays
ryonaloli_
Raiz: i find tor to be a lot faster than in the past.
velope
the exit node in that new circuit often will be different, but not always, especially since high-bandwidth nodes are selected more often
ryonaloli_
i think that's a fairly universal sentiment
Raiz
Do you use the Tor borwser bundle?
ryonaloli_
in addition to plain tor, yes
you probably just got stuck with a slow guard node if tor is slow fo ryou, riaz
*raiz
Raiz
that alwayz happen to me these dayz
Gulliver
hi
oxai
is it safe to update addons contained in torbrowser ?
Raiz
is there anyway i can use a different Tor guard node??
I'm stuck, my browsing is so god damn slow
ryonaloli_
reinstall the tor browser is the quickest way
Raiz
how will that help?
I will do it, hopefully it will work
ryonaloli_
the guard node is safed in a configuration file
so clearing that causes a new guard to be chosen (you will stick with the guard for some months)
Raiz
what if a relay from my circuit gets down?
will the connection drop?
ryonaloli_
if a relay in a circuit goes down, then yes that connection will drop
it makes idling on irc for long periods a pain, because with 3 nodes, the chance that none of them reboot for many weeks is low
Raiz
that's what i think of too, and that's why i reconnet to IRC and restart my browser a few times
mdik
the update behaviour and reliability of dist.torproject.org is a bit concerning. what is going on?
tor509
http://germanyhusicaysx.onion/topic/16356/biete-falsche-ausweise-rechnungen-und-co/
velope
the release process has lots of fussy manual steps, subject to error by exhausted developers
also there has been no release engineer for a very long time, thus the work being done by exhausted developers
fusebox
:) apparently Tor Project is operated by human beings
tor509
i sell Personal IDs and bills for 5Eur.(File Shape) for Online casinos and more! Pn me for more informations!
Raiz
tor509: this is not a marketplace...
tor509
but an irc ;)
velope
it's an irc channel specifically about torproject software, so either talk about that, stay quiet, or go away
tor509
so tell me a marketplace for that
fusebox
surely that's your job
Manis
Hi. I have a Banana Pi running Debian jessie which I want to use as a Tor Relay. I have installed Tor from the Tor Repository. Is there a way I can make tor automatically start at boot up?
velope
the debian tor package runs like other standard system services, automatically
Manis
velope, Apparently not :-/ I can do "invoke-rc.d tor start" but if I don't do that, it doesn't run
velope
don't use invoke-rc.d for routine starting and stopping
service tor start
etc.
and if it isn't automatic, something in your OS is broken
Manis
velope, ok...
velope, As is turns out "systemd[1]: tor.service start request repeated too quickly, refusing to start."
velope
is this actually official Debian itself, or is your hardware running some derivative like raspian
Manis
velope, Official. I installed it using debian-installer
velope
well, you can try starting over
sudo apt-get purge tor
sudo apt-get install tor
and don't use anything besides the service command or systemd commands
Manis
velope, systemd commands :X
velope
probably reboot after the purge
Manis
velope, Should I use tor from debian or tor repos?
velope
either is fine. they usually have the same versions.
