fusebox
most cases it's a no for the latter, attempting to access your bank via Tor will likely lead to them blocking your account, pending security questions
cacahuatl
you might find issue with banking though, because they probably use blacklisting and it might flag up some "fraud protection" or similar
amorphous
right you are fusebox
yollillie
thanks for the advice.

ryonaloli_: obligatory "how did you make that upside-down p?"
humn
running Tor client and Tor Browser next to each other means Tor Browser have different circuit and own running Tor in it?
ryonaloli_
Joost: that's actually exactly what i was thinking :P
humn: yes, tor browser runs its own tor process
oh wow, he left 2 minutes after joining
alteredbeast
one question: were to report CP sites?
ryonaloli_
alteredbeast: not possible
tor has no ability to censor websites
alteredbeast
got it. thnx.
ryonaloli_
tor is designed to give anonymity to anyone. if tor gave the ability to censor cp sites, then it would also have the ability to censor any sites.
alteredbeast
ryonaloli_ >> It make sense. I'm just getting tired or randomly landing on CP imageboards and forums without warning. Have to get better listings, filtered if possible.
OpenSorce
Hrm... freenode does not like users with TOR connections :-(
Joost
OpenSorce: https://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml#tor
(but it's offline atm)
OpenSorce
Joost, I actually connected with Tor and then went to #freenode to talk about and learned it was a no-no :-P
Joost
ah, ok

I assume I just happened to get in on an exit server that wasn't k-lined

your favorite search engine knows about "onion tor"
you don't need handholding, and we don't do i
price
are you behind a proxy ?
velope
7 of 'em, naturally
T2W_site_user
what kind of material do we get by .oinion ?
velope
every possible kind
it's like the internet, just more so, and less so
(there's not really that much of it)
T2W_site_user
how do i enter into a .onion site?
lord4163
T2W_site_user: you need tor for that I guess ;)
velope
find a link that ends in .onion (and not ones like ".onion.to"), and click it
T2W_site_user
lord4163: I've installed it for the first time. I don't know how the stuff works.
is it possile to get links from google?
velope
yes
lord4163
velope: really? :o
velope
<velope: your favorite search engine knows about "onion tor">
binaryatrocity
it is possible to find posted onion links on Google, but Google will not return onion sites as results
since Google cannot crawl them
velope
google can crawl them via .tor2web and .to
not as hidden as you might think, or prefer
T2W_site_user
how do i search for a .onion url
Sebastian
T2W_site_user: wikipedia has a short list, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tor_hidden_services
T2W_site_user
give me a search engine that displays .onion links
Sebastian
T2W_site_user: You're welcome to do some research yourself
the wikipedia list even includes a search engine
T2W_site_user
sebatian: to research i should know atleast how and where to start with.
Joost
the contents of that wiki page are a tad saddening, though :/
velope
that's enough about this. plenty of info to get started has been given.
Sebastian
Joost: I agree. Please help fxi it
fix*
Joost: I didn't really read the page too much -.-
Joost
I'm having trouble coming up with reasons why a legitimate, non-threatened site would want to set up a hidden service though
perhaps I should read into why Facebook did it
mosquito
Joost: for the same reason you are embarashed going in to a sex shop probably
flexlibris
joost the implication in your comment is that onion sites are just for illegitimate purposes :)
mquin
Joost: because sometimes you'll have users or customers who need to connect from networks that are dangerous
Joost
mosquito: that's already circumvented by simply using Torbrowser to visit a non-HS though, right?
velope
true
nicoo
Joost: To make it easy for users to be sure they are accessing it over Tor, for instance.
flexlibris
i don't use facebook but my understanding is that accessing facebook over tor used to be quite difficult
Joost
flexlibris: re: illegitimate purposes; check out that wiki link a bit further up - that's precisely what got me wondering about legitimate purposes
mquin: doesn't using Torbrowser suffice in that case?
flexlibris
joost: you may be interested in this blog post https://blog.torproject.org/blog/using-tor-good
mquin
I don't know torbrowser so I can't answer that
velope
yes, please read that blog post
Joost
flexlibris: I just read that post
which is why I explicitly included "non-threatened"
flexlibris
ohhh i see
