jon_: it's a average of combined bandwidth. so the upload and download of your relay will each be held to about half of BandwidthRate.
jon_
wgreenhouse: ok thanks! wasnt entirely clear to me from the docs

HI
mSparks
so, continuing from yesterday. does anyone know what will happen if I run nultiple seperate instances of a hidden service on different IPs with the same private_key/hostname
Peng
mSparks: Whichever one happened to publish most recently will get all the traffic, I believe.
mSparks
so whats the best way to "load balance" on a .onion then
ilken
Who Am I ? http://whoami.ytmnd.com/ ( SFW )

arma
ok. so you have a new system and you have this new system in order to run a tor relay?
tor-dev775

Aug 16 08:30:23.000 [warn] http status 400 ("Tor version is insecure or unsupported. Please upgrade!") response from dirserver '154.35.175.225:80'. Please correct.

arma
yes, i think this error should be easy to understand i hope.
tor-dev775
sorry for newb questions
arma
go find your tor version, and be shocked at how old it is
tor-dev775
ho do i do that
kernelcorn
$ tor --version
tor-dev775
like i said so new to tor
kernelcorn
run that command, it should spit out the version number
arma
this isn't tor. this is centos. are you new to centos? if so, perhaps you would prefer ubuntu or debian instead?
tor-dev775

kernelcorn
oh dear
arma
i ask not because ubuntu and debian are better, but because they are better for running tor relays.
tor-dev775
ya but vps is centos
kernelcorn
yeah, v0.2.3 is VERY out of date
tor-dev775
im stuck with it
i bet
im setting it up in a vm for debian on a windows vps
to learn
arma
ask your favorite search engine for 'tor rpms'
tor-dev775
but the centos is live
i need to update tor somehow

kernelcorn
that version of Tor won't even be accepted by the network
tor-dev775
thats good
kernelcorn
you could compile and install it manually I suppose, but that's not ideal for a number of reasons
arma
no, don't compile it and install manually
use a newer rpm
kernelcorn
is this the latest version of CentOS?
arma
as provided by the page you get by asking about tor rpms
tor-dev775
can u help with stable rpm
dont want to make you guys traffic insecure by installing wrong version
i have no problem running mainting .onion but exits are new to me
seems fun
and my host seems tolerable
imee
tor-dev775: you have a vps that is running centos? like a paid vps?
tor-dev775
yes sir
and a windows
a dedicated linux centos as well
i have 4 servers
imee
why are you stuck with an old version of tor?
tor-dev775
just learning on them so hen i get this right get some good money i hope to set up like 15 exitnodes around the globe to help out
vps
i installed like this
sudo yum install tor
sudo yum update
sudo rebott
reboot
etc
now i got torrc up and working firewall etc
and now i find out im fed vuln version of tor
and cant update via yum
arma
it's because your centos comes with a very old tor.
other people maintain newer tor packages for centos.
tor-dev775
is there any centos rpms you know of?
arma
there's a page on the tor website guiding you.
tor-dev775
i dont want to brick this
ya that bricked my machine last time
i was told by support its not debian
arma
tor-dev775: "ask your favorite search engine for 'tor rpms'"
tor-dev775
dont do that
arma
don't do which, exactly
tor-dev775
