How often does Tor Browser re-fetch (or re-poll with a HEAD request to see if it needs to be refetched) the "live bookmarks" you add (RSS feeds)?
I can't find any indication of how often this is done, how it does it, or any ability to change it.
cacahuatl
It's a generally firefox question, I think, not specific to Tor Browser
nualb
tor browser questions should be asked at a firefox channel?
RolaCola
nualb Tor Browser is essentially Firefox reconfigured to route through Tor
qweeeqw
I certainly hope it isn't being stupid about it.
nualb
RolaCola: right
qweeeqw
Asking in #Firefox on MozillaIRC.
nualb
ok
qweeeqw
It greatly surprises me that nobody seems to give a sh*t about making a notification system.
I hate having to constantly log in and copy and paste username/password and often enter a CAPTCHA to various marketplaces only to check if I have any new PMs.
When they could easily provide an RSS feed for me to keep in Tor Browser which notifies me.
Even if it's only fetched once an hour, that's much better.

cacahuatl
We eagerly await your patch.
qweeeqw
?
What patch?
cacahuatl
Exactly
qweeeqw
What?
mancha
ed zachary!

can someone tell me were to put TOR_SKIP_LAUNCH=1 in debian to only start the browser (in a custom whonix machine)
?
vgyj
when you specify TOR_SKIP_LAUNCH it sets the NSA_MONITOR_CONNECTION environment variable, so beware
just emacs through the source of the startup scripts
cacahuatl
yaryar
;) found it thanks guys

hi
s7r
what is the lifetime for a hidden service descriptor?
special
it's complicated!
and it's changing, so I'm not actually sure what the answer is as of master
i_cyber
are IPv6 tracable to geographical location?
misc
depend on the ipv6
cacahuatl
No kind of IP address directly maps with a geographic location.
i_cyber
what do you mean? if i have IPv4 address, i just put it in www.ip-adress.com and it will show me geographic location
can i do this with IPv6 address
cacahuatl
Yes
Unknown-User
Anyone alive?...

ryonaloli_
ye
Unknown-User
Half a thousand people, one talks. Haha, crazy.
ryonaloli_
well lots of people are idling
i usually stay in here 24/7, but i'm only on ir c for a few hours a day
(which is more than most people)
Unknown-User
I know, but still. In the other rooms there's the quarter amount here, and i see a different message at least every half to full minute.
Ah, that helps make sense.
It's too bad, i was hoping to learn some stuff about Tor and see what people talk about in here.
velope
sometimes there's nonstop chat for hours, sometimes it's dead for hours
while waiting you can amuse yourself with the chatty crappy archives of the tor-talk mailing list
Unknown-User
haha my sanity prevents me from doing so.
algorythm
lots of people just start an irc client in a shell and detach from it, forget about their machine and revisit only a few times a week. like me.
and eventually, one just leave an empty ghost in the machine
or return for heavy usage for a few days
Unknown-User
Purely situational than, huh?
velope
using irc mostly like a mailing list, except you need to stay connected to get the messages
torchinz
anyone online?
mancha
nope
ryonaloli_
nah, just us bots
torchinz
is it advisable to have add-ons in tor browser? like google translate?
ryonaloli_
you don't need an add-on for google translate
and no, it's not advisable. not just because some add-ons may be malicious, but also because genuine add0ons may be insecure and have vulnerabilities than an attacker could use to compromise the browser
torchinz
but some of the onion sites are in diff languages...what can be done then?
Peng
learn languages? copy and pste?
mancha
buy rosetta stone
torchinz
i have copied and pasted things previously...i thought there might be some other solution....cant start learning russian and chinese :P
Peng
you can
ryonaloli_
you could use google translate through tor2web
mancha
using tor to read chinese and russian sites. sounds like a solid citizen....
ryonaloli_
lol
torchinz
:P
i will try tor2web
thanks guys
ryonaloli_
one other thing you could do
is download tails (the live anonymity-oriented OS), and put the translate add-on in tor browser there
it will limit the damage caused if the add-on happens to be exploited, because tor browser is sandboxed in tails
torchinz
i have tails latest
how do I add the addon? I mean, everytime it will get erased and i will have to install it?
ryonaloli_
yes
torchinz
okay
easy2use
anyone here able to set tor socks proxy in Gnome Evolution? Does it really respect?

hi
crane
hey ho, I
hit to early enter...
hey ho (again... ^^), can someone of the tor project get in touch with me via pm for sponsoring an exit node to the tor project? ;)
misc
crane: I do not think the tr project operate exit nodes
crane
misc: hmm, okay. then i will go and ask the ccc. they are also providing tor exit nodes
misc
crane: nosoignons could be interested too
crane: depend on what you mean by "sponsoring"
https://nos-oignons.net/
crane
misc: providing the hardware for zero costs to run an exit node ;)
misc: i will keep this in mind if the ccc has no interest, thx!
misc
well, hardware is just one part of the issue, there is hosting and network access
and in turn, that's recurring cost for power
crane
misc: we are a hoster, that is included. ^^
misc
mhh, ok
mquin
if you're providing all the above, isn't it just a case of firing up tor?
misc
you still need to devote time on updating system and tor, and handle possible complain
jvoisin
(Action) is from nos-oignons
