RicocheT: please dont cross post.
checks
anyone know why videos in tor-browserin linux would be black/blank?
yano
because the plugins to play them are disabled?
checks
yano: no thats not it
GeKo
checks: what happens with a vanilla esr 31 on your linux box?
checks
i'm trying on youtube, it should use html5, they are actually playing
but blank
yano
the video might not be available in html5
checks
GeKo: vanilla esr 31? what do u mean?
yano: it is
yano
not all YouTube videos are available in HTML5

checks
yano: 90% of them are
GeKo
checks: unmodified Firefox 31 ESR
yano
not the Vevo ones
checks
GeKo: the videos work in other firefox browsers if thats what your asking?
SHADOWIMPACT
checks stop wanting to play videos on your browser
checks
SHADOWIMPACT: what?
SHADOWIMPACT
what what
checks
why not?>
GeKo
yeah, I assumed that but Tor Browser ships with an old Firefox and comparing an old one with a brand new one is not working very well
this might be a firefox bug actually
SHADOWIMPACT
because tbb is not for entertainment lol
checks
SHADOWIMPACT: so what is it for?
GeKo
checks: or you could try the upcoming alpha which is based on a quite recent firefox (38): https://people.torproject.org/~gk/builds/5.0a3-build5/
checks
I thought it was for everything
SHADOWIMPACT
checks yes everything serious like no javascript
i mean watching videos on tbb does not even feel right
yano
is js disabled?
checks
GeKo: i trie dthat one, same issue
SHADOWIMPACT
disabled js would not play videos at all checks lol
anyway i'm mostly kidding, checks try tails and tbb in some other distro across different computers to make sure it is not some hardware issue
if it is there's not much you can easily do i would think
cacahuatl
I sometimes get videos that "play" but no video but I'm pretty sure that's graphics drivers b0rking
SHADOWIMPACT
cacahuatl i guess that's what external players are for no?
download the video first, open it in some other player like vlc checks
cacahuatl
nah, even swapping to another tab and back or refreshing the page fixes it

checks
GeKo: if i use this addon https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/html5-video-everywhere/
it works
for some reason the native one is not working
GeKo
interesting
SHADOWIMPACT
checks it is a good idea to download things anyway so just use external players on downloaded videos
streaming sux
GeKo
checks: this holds for the stable Tor Browser and 5.0a3 I linked to above?
and your normal firefox is working as expected without that extension?
checks
GeKo: ya same issue
well I didn't try to stinall that addon on the experiemental one
but it wasn't working natively either
GeKo: i'm usinng an ubuntu linux
SHADOWIMPACT
checks use mint or something
checks
SHADOWIMPACT: mint is spyware
so is ubuntu
i use trisquel now
GeKo
checks: and you don't have any plugins available on Ubuntu? (see: about:addons -> Plugins)
checks
GeKo: well it works now with that addon, so I guess all is good?
GeKo
no, you should not need that extension
SHADOWIMPACT
checks wut? mint has bs like that ubuntu amazon thing? lol
checks
SHADOWIMPACT: yes and for yahoo too
and alot of other weird issues
GeKo: not sure why I do man....
GeKo: so your saying i should type about:plugins in the tor-browser?
i assumed they all should be disabled
velope
they should be as whatever defaults they start out as
GeKo
well you could just to rule out that your normal Firefox is "cheating" by using some plugin to display youtube stuff
SHADOWIMPACT
bad idea to use flash
checks
GeKo: i see what you mean
SHADOWIMPACT: there is no need for flash anymore
SHADOWIMPACT
yes i was just saying that in regards to using some plugin to display youtube stuff
checks
i'm using a htlm5 plugin
well ya actually only problem with that, is it will only work on youtube
not a huge big deal for me though
i dislike when yo go to youtube from the same ip and it remembers videos you watched

hi bucketm0use
freeasinfreedom
hi all.
I have noticed something odd with the new privacy slider in Tor Browser.
If I turn it to highest value, and try accessing https://goblinrefuge.com/mediagoblin/
it will give an error in the https window
but if I try with the 2ยบ highest
it will use https just fine
SHADOWIMPACT
works for me, try a new tbb
freeasinfreedom
It's the updated version, 4.5.2
i had it updated by the automatic updater
SHADOWIMPACT
no i'm just saying that something might have messed up some config or whatever
so try a new one just to rule that out
freeasinfreedom
I can try deleting this folder and downloading a new one to check yes
I had considered it could be because in the highest setting it says "some types of image are blocked". I don't know what images are blocked and why, but maybe those are used in that website and they break somehting?
but if you just tried and it works it's probably something wrong with my tbb
SHADOWIMPACT
nope, the ssl connection gets established first, then stuff gets downloaded
freeasinfreedom
anyway, what images are blocked in the highest setting?
SHADOWIMPACT
svgs
because they are sort of like programs lol
freeasinfreedom
the ones that cause that warning to appear "this image can try to access your location" or some sh*t like that?
SHADOWIMPACT
no this is geolocation or perhaps you have the canvas thing in mind
freeasinfreedom
canvas thing ;)
SHADOWIMPACT
here check this out https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/02/SVG_logo.svg
it will attempt to download
won't render it :p
freeasinfreedom
low settings it worked just fine, will try again with highest
yep it tried to download
if you could enlight me, why are these images dangerous?
