two of the founders are an nsa employee that worked r&d for mobile and wireless, and the guy who made doubleclick
google keeps banning them lol
banning the app i mean from the playstore, and they only block 3rd party domains, not 1st party. So i think they industry going to change because of people like them, which is a good thing.
the ad industry.
torQUES: i think ew should talk in nottor, qwerty1 gonna get me banned.
torQUES
disputes here doesn't make sense
CooloutAC
I think this room is only for technical tor related questions
torQUES

Does #nottor have rules posted anywhere or are bans handed out arbitrarily for the amusement of authoritarians?
By using the /topic to direction conversations to #nottor I have to assume this channel might abide by the same such rules but if that were that case I probably wouldn't be here still.
if anyone knows why I was banned from #nottor PM me but I won't bring it up here again.
thanks in advance.
Guest5212

"On 21 June 2010, an announcement was made that the military intends to rename psychological operations, or PSYOP, to Military Information Support Operations."
That's like calling propaganda "public relations" because it sounds less like something the nazis would do.
Myrno
so i don't know much about the crypto behind tor, mostly just the network aspect. but does this have any effect on the current implimentations of DH that we are using?
https://weakdh.org/imperfect-forward-secrecy-ccs15.pdf
thorazine
xtatix: sounds like "freedom"
xtatix: by this point basically everyone has figured out that any government work, be it legislation, organization, mission, etc., that includes the word "freedom" is about harming someone
but, for example, politicians still use the word in their bill names
the most flagrantly bad name i can think of is "Department of Homeland Security"
maybe it's different for Texans, or the Bush family
entropis1
Myrno: even if you could downgrade the tls connection to the guard node, it wouldn't matter since the tor handshake uses ed25519 keys
thorazine
but the word "homeland" makes me think of Nazis, not warm fuzzies and apple pie
xtatix
I haven't read up on this DH business but have seen the idea popularized that the NSA has always had secondary keys to all the major CA certs
entropis1
the idea of that paper was that they found a tls downgrade attack to be more widespread
Myrno
i wasn't talking about the TLS downgrade part
entropis1
oh and precomputation of 1024-bit dh
Myrno
yea, i meant the using a stard common P during the 1024
xtatix
Someone has been MitM'ing my SSL communications for at least a year now and it isn't the NSA.
Myrno
i wasn't sure if we were using any of the groups the consider common though i would think whatever the tor network uses as a standard would probably be considered a high priority for precomputation
xtatix
I don't think it's any government agency, tbh ... at least not US
entropis1
i'm double checking my answers this time :P
the ntor handshake would not be breakable by this
Myrno
alright
sorry for my ignorance of the subject but could you explain why?
entropis1
no dh is done with the rsa key
xtatix
in fact, some of what I'm reading about this matches with my experiences exactly.
Myrno
alright thats good enough for me, i just saw DH in the crypto package, though i can't really follow the code well enough to see what its for
