is oftc not letting me connect with tor because of something to do with my ident info?
I'm getting the "(No more connections from this host allowed) error, the web site says I should email support@oftc.net
srg
xtatix: They often disable tor.
xtatix
oh, yeah I just realized this page makes no mention of tor: http://www.oftc.net/LimitExceptions/
chie
xtatix: retry with another circuit
xtatix
I seem to be able to connect ok through tor if I'm not trying to use SSL
"We are working to create a mechanism by which we can allow users who have previously registered an account with services to continue to connect and use OFTC even though we are blocking new anonymous connections."
this might explain why some are able to connect with tor+ssl but I am not. I'm new to oftc.
I don't know anything about the ident protocol, could that be getting in the way?
srg
xtatix: as in #OFTC
ask*
I barely use Tor to browse
xtatix
oh wow, I'm sorry, I thought this was #nottor
bummer, I'm banned from #nottor, cest al vie ... thanks though
so strange, I didn't change anything and now everything is working just fine. Thanks for your help, srg
srg
hm, weird.
hYp
lol
[OvO]wl
the reason y'all bant me is
because why ?
just curious

Ubik
hYp: bant?
tacky
hYp: lot's of people are just ban happy. they have solipsistic, totalitarian mindsets. that's how it is.
CooloutAC
can't connect to oftc with tor :(
meejah
CooloutAC: some exits get banned due to abuse, keep trying ;)
marcusw
meejah: I think CooloutAC means using the gateway
but it looks like it worked for undercover__, at least for a bit

hi is there a patch somewhere ti test the encrypted service proposal (HS with 1 hop RP) : https://gitweb.torproject.org/torspec.git/tree/proposals/ideas/xxx-encrypted-services.txt
torn
Hi. I'm trying to configure chromium to access .onion sites using my local tor proxy. The problem is with DNS resolution: I switched off prefetching, setup the proxy as SOCKS5, but still it fails with "can't resolve..."
Do you have any hint?
with firefox it just work
troulouliou_div2
torn, did you succefull connect with ip adress only ?
torn
troulouliou_div2, I'm not sure about how to try, but I'm sure the problem is with DNS resolution at the moment...
I see on chrome://net-internals/#dns that chrome (chromium) is trying to resolve the .onion address
troulouliou_div2
torn judt put an ip adresss in the address bar
Nvoid
may help: https://www.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/network-stack/socks-proxy
troulouliou_div2
Btw i have recompil tor for one hop circuits only ; but i can't use it from firefox; and arm show relkay disabled; is there anythion particular to do ?
torn
troulouliou_div2, I can use the tor proxy as for normal addresses, yes
if I go to https://check.torproject.org/ it says I'm using tor
troulouliou_div2
torn, from chromium ?
torn
troulouliou_div2, yes
troulouliou_div2
torn, if you are sure about the dns prefetch modification then sorry :) can't help
torn
well is does work when using --proxy-server, like it says in the page Nvoid linked, but it's not optimal, I hope to use an extension that lets me set a proxy based on a URL pattern
Nvoid
i was close to compiling chromium for the first time a couple weeks ago, but ran out of space so for compiling firefox. I'd like to know the difference to help you in your venture though. Sounds like a cool idea for tor user to have another stand alone option.
No idea why manually setting proxy in the options is different then the flag setting though.
torn
If I find a solution I'll let you know
Nvoid
u have this on github?

torn
well I'm just playing with extensions at the moment
nothing so big or interesting
Nvoid
ya i've been doing that for firefox
but i've been meaning to learn chormium now
torn
anyway chromium --host-resolver-rules probably fixed it
PowerKiller
Hello, is it possible to host a NGINX server on TOR?
I mean the private TOR network
Peng
Yes.
PowerKiller
Even if I don't have my ports open?
how will I get the address ?
What should be my address? abcd.onion ?
Nvoid
https://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-hidden-service.html.en
PowerKiller: do a google search next time.
PowerKiller
I just wanted to know
I use DDG
Not google
troulouliou_div2
Nvoid, any idea if the encryopted service proposal has a patch anywhere ?
PowerKiller
I understood nothing from that page you linked me
Will it route all my traffic on 80 and make it come from TOR
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, your tor client will connect to a tor node configured as hidden service ; this node will transfer the connection to your configure port
PowerKiller
oh..
How would it know what port is the HTTPd running on?
https://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-hidden-service.html.en
I don't have any ports open
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, yiou configure it in the torrc under the section hidenservices
PowerKiller
HiddenServiceDir /Library/Tor/var/lib/tor/hidden_service/
HiddenServicePort 80 127.0.0.1:8080
oh, I got it
Port 80 will take all traffic from localhost's 8080 port
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, and in /Library/Tor/var/lib/tor/hidden_service/ you ll find your *.onion addresse
PowerKiller
OK
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, no
PowerKiller
8080 is the TOR service port?
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, all traffic going to xxx.onion:80 will got to localhost:8080
PowerKiller
8080 should be the Apache port?
Or NGINX ?
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, yes or use this : HiddenServicePort 80 127.0.0.1:80
PowerKiller
Yes, I want to make my webserver reachable only through 80 port
OK, I think I got it
BUt I also want to make a gameserver running through TOR
People playing the Game. But the Game doesn't understand SOCKS I guess
how to make it go through TOR?
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, try torsocks
PowerKiller
OK, I will try it out
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, or use a vpn in tcp mode like oipenvpn on both side if udp is involved
PowerKiller
Yes, UDP is involved
OpenVPN on the gameserver host?
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, openvpn in tcp-server mode
PowerKiller
oh, ok
But where should I set up the OVPN server?
troulouliou_div2
PowerKiller, on both sides; congigures the vopn client to use socks and vpn server to be served through hidden service
PowerKiller, like nginx HS
PowerKiller
oh, ok
