Hello, I would like little help with setting my torrc
(Relay!) :)
Socks... I can heve it listen to localhost only?
Is it related to the system?
I use privoxy and tor myself on my computer
Nickname, ORPort...
Those I set-up
Then bandwidth's
is irc accepted or rejected by default?
Also, why is nntp blocked, pirating there?

so, why is BD6A8292 (maatuska) not attracting any traffic ever since i swapped orport and dirport ~24 hours ago? all the DA's seem happy enough about it (only dannenberg not thinking stable and gabelmoo not named).
also, the consensus seems correct wrt this afaik
i see "r maatuska vWqCklXLCOZvvn03SDY1huRrOBA lM98nnH3LzHVSlv5Ceh5q+Y4jvM 2010-06-09 06:55:09 213.115.239.118 80 443"
AstralStorm
ln5: same subnet as another popular node?
ln5
AstralStorm: if you're referring to tpb and if subnet is a reasonably small subset of teh internets , no.
AstralStorm: if you're referring to any other tor relay attracting lots of traffic, not that i know of and i highly doubt it.
AstralStorm
maybe it's not deemed a fast node?
check blutmagie stats

ln5
it's not flagged as fast, true. and that's probably because of my ridiculously low setting of MaxAdvertisedBandwidth.
it all makes sense. thanks.

As a relay, am I able to log connected users?
I would like to atleast see realtime who is using my connection, logs would be useful if someone reports abuse of their service, I could block users from using this relay
I would ofcourse ensure ultimate privacy and use the logs only personally and for abuse preventing

Can I log users of my relay?
vegard
a network sniffer might do the job?
phobos
https://www.torproject.org/eff/tor-legal-faq.html.en#ExitSnooping
keeping logs of your exit relay is a bad idea for you and tor users
and may be illegal
portis
why would you want to do this?
phobos
Lartza
I want this so I could in some cases, block users from accessing my relay for abuse
portis
afaik you can't do this
just say you're the second of the three nodes, you will never know you is the initiator
you only know the first and the last node
Lartza
i am the last node right?
:)
if i would get complains
portis
i don't know ;) if you are, you can only prevent all users using some services
Lartza
nope
portis
you can prevent them using bittorent for example
Lartza
Well...
portis
but not who is using your node
Lartza
I mean, the first node is the user?
nvm...
portis
nope, i meant the first node of the three nodes you use for your circuit
Lartza
i wont log you then :P
portis
besides this, tor wants to be a censorship resistant network and you want to censor it?

Lartza
Umm... no?
portis
hm, then i did not understand your question ;)
Lartza
I want to block you, if you would use my relay for illegalities, harrasment etc.
portis
afaik, only an exit node can limit things like what services can be reached
like limiting to port 80 and 443
Lartza
I am exit node!(?)
portis
are you?
misc
portis: or ip
portis
ah, ok
Lartza
portis: I hope I am, I tried to config so, so I can be help
portis
but only destination ip, right?
Lartza
portis: But I can block anything from iptables, firewall ;)
portis
Lartza: you really should read this here: http://www.torproject.org/faq.html.en#ExitPolicies
Lartza: sure, but from where yould you get an users ip?
Lartza
that's what i wanted to know, how to get it :)
portis
well i guess you can't ;)
because thats what tor is doing
hiding your ip
Lartza
:)
portis
teh exit node only knows the second node and the destination server
not you
otherwise, no user will be anonymous
Lartza
DAMN
Now my primary network card is banned from freenode :)
I need help setting my config, it's obiviously wrong now.
How do I set-up to use my second NIC only
eth1
Are only exit nodes banned from everywhere like I accidentally now am?
portis
only exit nodes are visible from the free internet so only they will/can be banned in case of abuse
Lartza
No, they will be banned abused or not...
I am currentyl banned on freenode and two other networks and my ip is listed in efnet and some german blocklist sites.
For starters...
I never should have tried to help others......
atagar
Lartza: Being blocked by some services like freenode is an unfortunate result of running an exit node on your home IP. That's part of why most operators run it from a different IP (that, and helping to deal with abuse complaints)
in case you haven't read it: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tips-running-exit-node-minimal-harassment
we sould really link that from the relay instructions page...
if this is really a problem (and you don't have an alternate IP) then running a non-exit relay would be a good idea
Lartza
atagar: I do have another IP, two network cards, my config just didn't work and ran on my main card
atagar
nice - in that case if your traffic belongs to the alternate ip address then you won't run into issues with freenode and such
and by 'your traffic' I mean personal (non-relay) traffic
nsa
or: atagar committed revision 22496 (/arm/trunk): change: providing notice for unrecognized armrc values
Lartza
So, if I reject exit, am I listed as TOR relay and banned everywhere atleast on IRC?
Or just if I am an exit node, are only bridges the ones not banned?
misc
you need to ask to people who run irc network, not us
Lartza
misc: They ban the listed nodes... somewhere
misc
the bridge are not listed on any public listing, so they will likely have no problem
Lartza
But normal relay is even if it's not exit?
misc
Lartza: as you say "they" ban, so maybe it would be more direct to ask them. the worst that could happen is that they don't answer you
Lartza
Well I was banned on freenode for accidentally running an exit node on my bprimary NIC
And I am also listed on efnet banlist as Tor relay
efnet is "Scanned TOR exit node proxies"
freenode, don't know how they get the info and where
:/
OH and I am also on "TOR DNSBL - blacklist for Tor servers"
Nice...
So ONLY bridges are not lister publicly, but are they any use to anyone?
*listed
Sebastian_
Lartza: we operate the dnsel
misc
well, yes, or no one would run them
Sebastian_
Lartza: where we is the Tor project
it is a service so that people can easily identify Tor exit nodes
Lartza
Sebastian_: Are you admin on DNSBL?
Sebastian_
no
Lartza
:/
Sebastian_
why do you ask?
Lartza
I was wishing to get my request of delisting to be processed
Faster
Since only after then I can be delisted on efnet
And only after delisted on efnet, I can be unbanned from the irc networks I use
Sebastian_
if you stopped running an exit node more than a few minutes ago, you should already be unlisted
hbock: ^^^^^
Lartza
Nope :/
atagar
Sebastian_: unlisted by us, but some places like freenode take a very long time
Sebastian_
atagar: sure, but the request was for dnsel
Lartza
atagar: I got response in about two hours, and they need to wait for my ip to become delisted on somewhere else first
"Your IP is LISTED! / Ihr IP ist GELISTET!"
No tor running
Sebastian_
which IP is it?
atagar
Lartza: for irc an alternative in the meantime is going through mibbit (http://www.mibbit.com/)
Lartza
atagar: It isn't :/
atagar: Atleast freenode still sees my IP
atagar
no - mibbit is a proxy so they won't see your IP through it
Lartza
Or freenode doesn├Ąt allow mibbit
:)
*doesn't
atagar
that could be
Lartza
WHOIS me, my real IP is on "Real name" field :/
WIth mibbit now
atagar
weird
Sebastian_
Lartza: if you tell me your IP, I can see if you're still listed by dnsel.
Lartza
84.231.189.46
Sebastian_
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 24101
your node is delisted
if efnet still bans you, they're doing something stupid
(not so surprising, but hey)
Lartza
I need to request on efnet to get delisted
ANd for me, dnsbl says I am listed
misc
some cache ?
Lartza: how do you check the dnsbl ?
Lartza
firefox
misc
ie ?
Lartza
I am on Linux :)

ah yeah
that is not our service at all
you should contact them
