hey all... I was running tor fine under linuxmint... but since moving over to ubuntu I've noticed I'm getting errors....
I'm using privoxy with tor, as I was unable to d/l the config file for polipo on the tor-site
does anyone have a link for the polipo conf which works, or failing that, can someone help me figure out what's with these errors... http://www.pastie.org/1009495
I tried editing my conf file to have it point to one I copied from the tor site for privoxy, and I also tried to edit / append the code from said file where it look right in the main conf file
but still no luck

Would anyone happen to know if Vidalia has any problems with the Bandwidth Graph after plugging into a Tor control port (instead of starting the instance itself?)
Node's been up for 24 hours and apparantly only moved 300MB, never seen it so dead before

Jotunbane: what's the point of having an hidden website when you write your name at the bottom of your homepage?

:O
murb
pennino: how do you know that is his name?
Jotunbane
good point... fixed
better point... hahaha

well, that's the proof that people who use hidden service have nothing to hide

is there any senisble way of transfering money anonoymously not in person, i'm talking micropayment type amounts.
Jotunbane
its not really a secret as such. Its just a private library for me and a few friends. But if I just leve it like this : http://83.92.176.231:5222/ I will get a takedown notice sooner or later. So ... hidden service.
and yes I understand that saying "private" and announcing my IP in the same sentence does not make sense. But its dynamic, so enjoy it while it lasts
pennino
anybody knows how long its gonna take before this patch is committed? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280661
it's a 5 years old bug :(
arma
pennino: yeah. don't hold your breath. parts of firefox are really old and written really poorly.
gouki
I'm getting this warning on one relay: [warn] Socks version 71 not recognized. (Tor is not an http proxy.)
Anyone knows what it means/how to fix it?
sjmurdoc3
gouki: This looks like someone is trying to use your relay as a client, but directing HTTP requests to your SOCKS port
gouki
Hmmm.
iptables to the rescue.
sjmurdoc3
If you don't want people to use your server as a client you can either disable SocksPort (if you don't want it to be a client), or bind it to localhost (the default)
gouki
sjmurdoc3, it's already binded only to localhost, which is way I'm finding it weird.
I (only use of the machine) haven't made any connections, so the warning is kind of weird.
sjmurdoc3
Indeed, that is weird

lol... understood...
I have some questions about Tor, but as I'm not exactly using it for those purposes that is what particularly designed, I understand if Tor really just doesn't fit the bill of what I want...
(If you use a screwdriver as a hammer, it's kinda silly to ask the people you got the screwdriver from, why it's not working properly... lol)
anyone know if I can restrict the Tor exit point to countries that speak my native language (English) or even to some rough approximation of my location ( telephone area code, for instance)
it's kinda getting a bit frustrating landing at google.com, only to find it in german or swedish, or something... lol
any takers?
phobos
or tell google to stop geoguessing
falfa
I can give you some swedish lessons, but my german is a bit rusty
