i wonder what nsa will do if i make a new branch in the official tor git.
will it post a summary of every commit, ever?
Sebastian
it might. Should I turn it off, just to be sure that doesn't happen?
arma
yes, probably. (aren't you asleep?)
Sebastian
I thought I would be
BarkerJr
where's your sense of adventure
Sebastian
(I always turn that off when I populate a repo initially)
atagar
ug, just tried another system and a difference in font sizes destroys all the alignment (... I hate web development)
arma
ok. so here i am in my release-0.2.1 branch in my local git
what do i do to push it?
before i would do "git push origin maint-0.2.1"
is my "origin" maint-0.2.1, so i can't just git push origin release-0.2.1?
or is that command exactly what i should be doing
Sebastian
that will be fine.
that command will push your local branch release-0.2.1 to the remote "origin", branch release-0.2.1

arma
[remote "origin"]
url = ssh://git@git-rw.torproject.org/tor
fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
so it sounds like that's the command i want
BarkerJr
hmm, I lost guard now
democracy sucks
arma
(Action) does it
Sebastian
wiat
wait
arma
i might be waiting
i might not be. not clear where i suspended my process. :)
Sebastian
(our online stuff is slow, so my commit to disable notifications takes a while to get pushed around
)
good to go
(you would also have mailed or-cvs every commit ever)

Sebastian
I guess I only commented out the hook
without really killing it on the server.
Well, we get lots of email now.
weasel
so, what's this new branch for?
Sebastian
I'm more asleep than I thought, apparently.
arma
weasel, this is the release 0.2.1 branch
maint-0.2.1 is where we put commits that are destined for some 0.2.1 release,
and those commits have changes/foo files, which get merged into master
release-0.2.1 never gets merged into master.
weasel
ah. that sounds useful
should we merge debian-0.2.1 into release-0.2.1?
arma
this is how we avoid conflicts in version numbers, and conflicts in the ChangeLog
i have no clue. sounds fine to me. unclear on the implications though.

weasel
do we expect users to run that branch if they want tor 0.2.1.x?
if so, that will give them a working debian/
if we don't care about a working debian/ in git then it doesn't matter what we do
arma
shall we merge it in before we tag, then?
what is there to merge? is that stuff in maint-0.2.1 or have you left it out because it produces conflicts?
weasel
I think merging after the fact should be fine. waiting for it sounds like introducint dependencies unnecessarily
I leave it out of maint 0.2.1 because you merge that to master automatically
arma
ok. i plan to tag 0.2.1.26 shortly.
weasel
I don't want my changes to be merged between branches
arma
and that means tagging the release-0.2.1 version
weasel
sounds good
fgirl
Hey, can anyone tell me if you can run two instances of firefox in ubuntu at the same time, one using tor through torbutton and one without?
arma
yes, you can.
you might try the tor browser bundle linux.
fgirl
is that a firefox flavor set to always go through tor?
murb
fgirl: start the second with -no-remote -ProfileManager
fgirl
oh, sweet. Let me try that murb
murb
then create a new profile
fgirl
yay!
thanks murb !!!

William_Conqueror
I learn my problem with server and I find the next.
I have more then 1300 opened icoming and more then 2600 outgoing connectiongs
I have average 55% CPU and 25% RAM usage
BarkerJr
is that bad?
William_Conqueror
But there are 100 % CPU usage, 25% RAM usage, 2% procceses usage and 100 % file descriptors usage in the time when I have no access to my vds through ssh or through web-min too.
BarkerJr Please, see the next
And I have 997121300635442336 file descriptors rejects in that time.
Have I very low frequency of my server CPU?
It seems to me that 500 MGz is ehough for a tor-exit, am I wrong?
And there I no process rejects, no RAM rejects and no swap rejacts
That seems to me very strange because I was shure that I have very few RAM - 128 MB, not very few CPU frequency
BarkerJr
how many file descriptors does your system have?
cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
first number is fd open currently, last number is maximum system-wide
William_Conqueror
BarkerJr that is the problem to answer because in that time I have no ssh-access to my server and have access to it only through webmin of my vds provider
BarkerJr
can you check it now? the system-wide limit shouldn't change
William_Conqueror
I can restart my server that way but after it a can't see needed information
BarkerJr
what user are you running tor as? _tor ?
William_Conqueror
yes
BarkerJr
what seems odd to me is that if _tor is limited to 1024 fd, then there should be plenty of fd left for other users of the system
William_Conqueror
I will restart my server and will show it next minutes or secondes
cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
cat: /proc/sys/fs/file-nr: No such file or directory
what does it mean?
BarkerJr
maybe your distro puts it somewhere else :/
William_Conqueror
There are no files in the /proc
I suspect that could be string with that that I rent my server from scammers those use FreeBSD-jail for virtualisation for theirs vds? It is my the first vds that I have only about 3 days ... :-)
sysctl security.jail.jailed
security.jail.jailed: 1
BarkerJr
ah maybe, I don't know bsd
William_Conqueror
But can the tor-node correctly work in that jail? Under any unix-system? It seems to me that it mustn't be a problem, isn't it?
BarkerJr
what's "ulimit -n" say?
I've never worked with jails, either
William_Conqueror
ulimit -n
ulimit: Command not found.
I will try install it
if it possible in jail
nsa
or: phobos committed revision 22263 (/projects/todo): update the task list.
William_Conqueror
It is strange because now I see in top that my CPU's frequency of my server is enough : CPU: 0.0% user, 0.0% nice, 0.1% system, 0.0% interrupt, 99.9% idle but I have very few RAM: Mem: 128M Active, 686M Inact In the above it seems differently

L0rD`: Package from Jaunty won't work ?
L0rD`
well I upgraded from karmic to lucid and everything works fine, but I thought there's going to be also deb packages for lucid
haven't tried it with the jaunty ones
Sebastian
seba22: I think one is supposed to use the karmic packages

where does tor write geoip statistic of bridge usage if this option is set - BridgeRecordUsageByCountry 1 which is the default value?

any eta on lucid tor packages?
dr|z3d
N0ise: Use karmic's for now.
eta is "soon enough" :)
N0ise
oh, I didnt realize I could easily do that, thanks mate

someone here who would like to test the new exonerator website? http://88.84.129.62:8180/ernie/exonerator.html

hi karsten, yes sure :D
StrangeCharm
karsten, doesn't seem to be working - there are no results displayed
SwissTorExit
yep don't work for me too
karsten
SwissTorExit, StrangeCharm: try a date before april 1, 2010.

oh, ok
StrangeCharm
still nada, karsten
SwissTorExit
with recent ip, it load but nothing displayed

hmm, what did you type in as timestamp? can you paste that here?

karsten
heh, oops
the example should say "2010-01-01 12:00:00".
(Action) makes that more robust.
phobos
do you want to require the hh:mm:ss?
karsten
can you try with seconds?
it does require that, yes.
phobos
that seems excessive to me, but ok
StrangeCharm
looks like it works now
or rather, looks like i can work it now
karsten
ok, taking out the seconds.
for the moment it's with seconds.
SwissTorExit
that's what i put in timestamp karsten: 2010-04-04 13:00
