trent_: not sure, it can certainly help people fingerprint your browser.
SwissTorExit
i am so sad that i don't have finish with my investigation, i get from my ISP that with my constant high consomation of bandwich, there reduce again the price for me, lol, now it coast me less for fiber as cable connection and unlimited , great new ^^ , with Tor their serverd P

i'm getting a whole load of 'no client certificate known for authority X' messages. what's up?
SwissTorExit
i dunno, wait i will see if i get such error, i just back home
nope, for me all look fine
no idea StrangeCharm sorry, btw hello :P

StrangeCharm
SwissTorExit, long time no see :)
there's exam period for you
but i'm now free nad clear for the summer
karsten
StrangeCharm: can you paste the full message?
SwissTorExit
oh nope, long time ago was my exam ;)
i try to come back in health and fight for my exit :/
i am very busy too on some project too :P
hi karsten :D
karsten
hey SwissTorExit!
StrangeCharm
karsten, May 21 11:05:44.929 [Notice] No current certificate known for authority <whatever>; launching request.
SwissTorExit
but i am always arrond StrangeCharm , all days and still always help Tor much as possible
StrangeCharm
SwissTorExit, sadly, my efforts are divided by the constant bugbear that is school
SwissTorExit
yeah, i undrstand, early i don't really was in computing, no when was in school :P
i never learned computing anyway, it's a hobbys and after my way get with my philosphoy:P
StrangeCharm
everyone needs some computing
karsten
StrangeCharm: what's <whatever>?
SwissTorExit
yeah, i was thinking same, that's not a secret a autority :D what's the name ?
StrangeCharm
karsten, i get it for moira1, tor26, dizium, ides, gabelmoo, dannenberg, and uras
karsten
StrangeCharm: do you get them once for every authority?
each* probably. english grammar..
SwissTorExit
what Tor version are you running ?
StrangeCharm
karsten, i get them sequentially for each authority, in that order, then it starts again, so far three times this morning
SwissTorExit, tor is 0.2.1.26
karsten
hmm, i wonder if you requested the first two rounds of certificates from dannenberg which tends to time out on requests.
did any of these messages come up after the third round again?
StrangeCharm
karsten, no, they haven'. vidalia tells me that i'm still stuck at establishing an encrypted directory connection
karsten
hrmm
does http://213.73.91.31:80/tor/status-vote/current/consensus work for people here?
SwissTorExit
i try
look taking lot of times
i don't think , in log it try diffrent exit
it will finish with timed out and it's the case
karsten
StrangeCharm: does that address work for you?
SwissTorExit: same here.

SwissTorExit
:)
StrangeCharm
karsten, negative, ghostrider
[that pattern is full]
karsten
time to mail the operator..
StrangeCharm
karsten, are you going to send them a snail mail letter printed on the Tor letterhead?
karsten
yeah, with my shiny color laser printer!
and then i fax it.
StrangeCharm
also, i have another round of directory requests
Jadoza
yay! 5 GB/day traffic over my bridge! Although the chinese users have dropped of significantly, so I doubt it's only censored users enjoyed net liberty :/

does anyone know if Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant will reveal my IP with Tor in Firefox?
arma
never heard of it. what's it do?
trent_
addon in firefox
that will not go away
arma
ah. is this the spyware that microsoft forces on you, that i read about a few months ago?
i don't remember the outcome of that.
so the answer to your question is "maybe".
trent_
ok
katmagic
trent_: It doesn't go away because it's added through the registry. This isn't Microsoft's fault - it's a Firefox thing. Anyway, it probably does spy on you, but you can disable it via the disable button. It'll be just like uninstalling it, except of course it won't be uninstalled. ?-)
mikeperry
there was at least one vulnerability found in that thing wrt IP disclosure I think. iirc, it was something related to it giving websites a new way to launch apps that handle .doc files and similar things
Jadoza
http://xkcd.com/743/
mikeperry
I think that was fixed, but there may be other surprises
Jadoza
Oh man, ~100 kbyte/s traffic over my bridge \o/ I won't be satisfied until I reach 1 Mbit/s
no wait ... I'm there aren't I?
*calculated* yes I am
10 Mbit is the next target then
arma
jadoza: so i guess your bridge hasn't been blocked in china yet?
Jadoza
arma, It's a potpurri of clients right now
1-8 of like fifteen countries
china being one
arma
ah. so maybe you have been blocked in some of china.
they certainly seem active in blocking bridges the past few days.
Jadoza
probably
but the bandwidth has doubled several time sover
just in the past week I'd say
in any case, good times :)
This computer is a beehive, I'm checking huge prime numbers, I'm folding proteins, I'm hosting a tor bridge ... The CPU is at 100% all the time, and I would run seti aswell, if I believed it was of any benefit
Also some file sharing
trent_
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article08-600 i found a way to delete the addon

portis
hi
i just set up a tor relay on a vserver
and wanted to know if these are good values: http://torstatus.asprion.org/router_detail.php?FP=310ae5213861b1975063fc630708066eaf9c60d7
for a vserver
arma
looks plausible
portis
ok, so 162KB/s are ok?
arma
well, it had only been up for 3 hours when it made that estimate
give it another day and see where it is
portis
oh, ok
thanks
are there any monitoring tools for the cli?
on the server itsellf?
arma
there's a program called 'arm' that you can try out
https://svn.torproject.org/svn/arm/trunk/
portis
ok, thanks, i'll try
arma
otherwise, you can just keep an eye on the logs and they'll tell you if anything goes wrong
Sebastian
speaking of that
I started implementing the heartbeat stuff
I've been ripping out stats we gather on our own performance and collecting them in a new status.c file
atagar
portis: for other versions, screenshots, and such: www.atagar.com/arm
portis
the screenshots look nice
atagar
thx :)
portis
i already try to get it running
it IS running now :)
atagar
spiffy, what was the issue?
portis
no real issue, the control port wasnt enabled
looks cool :)
atagar
Ah yes, that would do it - thanks! If you have any feature suggestions or issues then please let me know.
portis
i will, thanks
should i just edit the torproject wiki when i found a cheap provider that has no problems with tor?
or submit it somewhere?
hosting provider
arma
portis: sure. but be sure to note that you're running a non-exit relay. most of that wiki page is for exit relays.
portis
they really sounded like they dont care
i'll ask them
arma
if that's true, and they say 'feel free to run an exit relay', maybe you should :)
portis
ok :)
[ARM-WARN] Descriptors won't be updated (causing some connection information to be stale) unless: a. 'FetchUselessDescriptors 1' is set in your torrc b. the directory service is provided ('DirPort' defined) c. or tor is used as a client
is this a problem?
and i dont understand page 2
what connection do i see there?
atagar
portis: the second page is the connections being made to/from your system on behalf of tor
the warning is that descriptor information won't continue to be fetched by tor, so some of that information will get stale
if you're not using the page then it doesn't matter
portis
what page? torstatus?
the one i posted before?
Sebastian
hm
atagar
no, if you press left and right in arm there's mulitple 'pages' of informatoin
Sebastian
I wonder if it is a good idea to tell people to set FetchUselessDescriptors
atagar
why?
Sebastian
Because that is extra load on the directory servers
they aren't fetched by default for a reason ;)
portis
ok, understood that
Sebastian
atagar: I think the useless descriptors includes many more than those a regular client would fetch
atagar
Sebastian: arm isn't toggling the torrc option to fetch anything extra, just notifying the user that without it some information will be stale
