BarkerJr
it's been three days since I rebooted my server and my relay is still not using much if any bandwidth and not in torstatus
Sebastian
hrm
we need to fix this bug -.-
BarkerJr
do I need to delete my identity?
my fingerprint?
Sebastian
no, that shouldn't factor into it at all
we have gotten quite many reports like this.
I don't run an authority, so I can't track it down
all the authority-running people are busy
it's quite sad
BarkerJr
ya
data
ok, so i am not the only one :)
BarkerJr: I am feeling with you :)
mikeperry
I want to put out another call for testing torbutton 1.2.5pre11. I'm going to write up a changelog today, and play with git merging, and then release it. so it needs people to make sure its ok.
https://ides.fscked.org/transient/torbutton-1.2.5pre11.xpi
Sebastian
I've tested it as much as I think I can
It worked well.
mikeperry
cool
I'm just looking for additional people
want to make sure as many platforms and FF versions are covered as possible

blackpaw
When you say test, what do you mean?
SwissTorExit
i will test it on 64 bits karmic and told you
blackpaw
Just use it, then mess with options and use it more?
mikeperry
yeah, whatever you see fit to bang on.
blackpaw
Alright will do
mikeperry
it's got a couple new features and some bug fixes too
SwissTorExit
well i have choose search engine scroogle but it's google instead
but look good except this minior bug :P
mikeperry
it only redirects you when google gives you a captcha
you're talking about the new option in the Security Settings->Headers box?
SwissTorExit
no in the setting ---> choose search engine and their are bing, scroggle and anoter one, if i choose scroggle as défault it change from bing to google
yeah headers box i think in english
en-tête in Frech
French*
mikeperry
SwissTorExit: I am confused as to what is happening where. is this the firefox search box?
SwissTorExit
yep, up on the right of the browser
oh sorry, i missunderstund, yeah it's for captcha
so sorry, i thinking that was to select the search engine
so all be fine :P
mikeperry
I wonder if I should change that UI and just remove where it says "Search Engine" altogether
so its more clear its part of that checkbox
SwissTorExit
yeah for sure, can be a good idea
time to go, cya later :P
mikeperry
well this means I get to do the pootle dance again
(I hate the pootle dance)
blackpaw
torbutton 1.2.5pre11 seems to be working fine on karmic 64 bit with firefox 3.5.8
katmagic
What's the certificate of fscked.org?
StrangeCharm
and... there go all the tor nodes in the UK
harahauk
StrangeCharm: whats up?
oh right..
blackpaw
What happened to all of the tor nodes in the UK?
Oh right just read the news...
mikeperry
no one feels the need to post a link for this apparently
since it's not on any tech news sites I could find, or the UK sci tech or UK government sections of google news, it must not be that earthshattering

StrangeCharm
the digital economy bill just passed in the UK
i too was entertained by the repeated "what?... oooh." comments without context
mikeperry^
blackpaw
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/04/internet-cut-offs-website-censorship-about-to-drop-on-uk.ars?comments=1#comments-bar
If you still haven't found a link.
StrangeCharm
i'm impressed that a tweeting kettle beat the debill on google uk sci/tech news
blackpaw
Cept you have to scroll up because I stupidly gave the comments link...
mikeperry
usually things like this tend to cause more tor nodes to appear in a location, not less
blackpaw
Yeah, I'm probably just going to run one anyway and see if the UK government can find me across the pond.
mikeperry
it might get difficult to run an exit node on a residential connection, but relays should still be fine, and I'm guessing there's exemptions for ISPs
so people who use VPS's/colos may still be ok
at least that's how it shook out in germany before data retention was repealed entirely
StrangeCharm
this law is somewhat more agressive than the usual
only australia has worse
MrCheadle
Hi, can someone help me with a relay problem?
mikeperry
even more tore nodes than usual, then :)
MrCheadle
Anyone?
mikeperry
MrCheadle: I am about to leave. always ask your question. no one usually bothers to respond to requests to ask, esp if they don't know for sure if they can solve the problem yet.
nsa
or: mikeperry committed revision 22140 (/translation/trunk/projects/torbutton): Update strings again for slight pref change.
MrCheadle
Ok thanks
BarkerJr
the only people who respond do so cause they're about to leave :)
MrCheadle
My Vidalia install claims it can't open the geoip config file, and I need to work out how to make it behave
nsa
or: erinn committed revision 22141 (/torbrowser/trunk): - firefox loses it (via libxml2) when there is more than one libz on the system, so only use our libz if no system libz is present.
or: - clean up shell script formatting.
or: - remove duplicate build targets.
BarkerJr
Sebastian, you're right deleting all the data (except fingerprint/key) didn't help it seems
xtoaster
there seems to be quite a few proxy servers nested on *ip*.idc.cdbnet.com.cn
my tor is constantly connecting to a node which has similar reverse dns address.
arma
which ip address?
seems unusual, since last i checked china couldn't reach the authorities so they wouldn't publish you as a relay
s/authorities/directory authorities/
xtoaster
odd.
not sure the ip i clear everything to reset the configuration :-/ in a clumsy way
next time i will take it down
arma
using a bridge or just connecting directly?
xtoaster
used to use bridge but now directly. i guess many relay are reachable now :-)
arma
that would be very interesting.
http://metrics.torproject.org/graphs/bridge-users/china-bridges-180d.png
makes it pretty clear that they unblocked some bridges, too
xtoaster
ah
a "w" curve :-)
arma
i hear rumors they're overloaded hardware-wise
i also hear rumors that many different organizations are fighting about who's going to get to decide how to censor
xtoaster
hm internal chaos sounds reasonable. maybe they want to make themselves look good.
arma
also, the more they block, the more they teach their citizens how to get around blocking
it's like how so many bacteria these days are resistant to antibiotics...
xtoaster
yep "carrot" - huluobu rocks :-D
Adolph
hey
how do I download tor without bundle?
xtoaster
expert package on advanced dl page.
Adolph
where is advanced dl?
found
xtoaster
:)
its hidden ... maybe on purpose
Adolph
it should be hidden from me :)
*not
lol
how are the speeds on tor now?
xtoaster
the speed is nice here at least now :)
Adolph
can I download porn ok?
heh kiddin:)
njaln
karsten: Hi
karsten: in the ERNIE manual, on page 9, could there be an error in the SQL-statement?
It seems that you excluded 'descriptor' from the first FROM-clause.
or am I mistaken?
Adolph
can tor act as a http proxy?
tor-reference.html and tor-resolve.html are zero-byte size :(
!help
tor doesn't work at all
ok, now it does
helloooo how can I use http proxy
nsa
or: pootle committed revision 22142 (/translation/trunk/projects/website): updated files from pootle
Runa
Adolph: you might want to use torbutton with firefox
Adolph
I don't think I might, koz I use opera
blackpaw
you can use portable firefox
Adolph
why would I?
blackpaw
or manually configure proxy options in opera
Adolph
but....meh
blackpaw
torbutton offers some privacy features which opera doesn't.
Adolph
I don't want privacy features
opera supports only http proxy, can tor provide that?
blackpaw
yes
Adolph
how?
blackpaw
use proxy address 127.0.0.1
and port uhh
Adolph
uhh?
what port is that? :)
blackpaw
I'm too tired to think
Adolph
lol
Runa
Adolph: be a bit patient ;)
Adolph
ok)
blackpaw
gah what port what port
Adolph
by default, tor listens only at port 9050
which is SOCKS
Runa
Adolph: http://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-doc-windows -- see step two
blackpaw
so put in 9050
Runa
(it's the same whether you use unix, windows or os x)
Adolph
blackpaw: that is SOCKS proxy, SOCKS != http/https
blackpaw
Can't you configure SOCKS proxy in opera?
