Hello. In dir-spec @1801 it says: "Finally the authority MAY check that the router is not blacklisted beacuse of it's key, IP or another reason". Why is there MAY word? Is it possible that a router desc. pass this step without be verified whether it's on blaclisted or not?
Sebastian_
that means that depending on the Tor implementation and the configuration of the directory authority, it may or may not blacklist relays. The specification does not require it to keep such a blacklist.
ilter
Thank you Sebastian_. That's good explanation for me. I think that you should put this explanation on dir-spec.
Sebastian_
please file a bug noticing my suggestion. Someone else should check it.
ilter
Ok i'm going to do it. But still there isn't any event for my other bug.
Sebastian_
what is your other bug?
the path-spec clarification?
ilter
ID:1301
Sebastian_
right
Unfortunately filing a bug doesn't mean something will happen right away
it's only been a couple of days

ilter
Yes it seems some slow as you told.
I've created it, #1310.
Sebastian_
thanks
feel free to ask for progress a week after you created it, or so. Sorry, we're only human too
ilter
:) Of course Sebastian_ no problem. Also i want to help you for developing Tor. But first i need to know it deeply.
Sebastian_
good luck
ilter
Thanks

hi
i'm using the vidalia package, tor only as client. as a test i'm currently routing multiple torrents thought, is 100% cpu load (only on one core) normal then?
xtoaster
normal. actally it should exploid ;)
herojoker
ok, thank you for that information :)
anyway running torrents over tor is evil ^^
manner
hi, what is the latest version of Tor for Debian?
Sebastian_
0.2.1.23 and 0.2.2.10-alpha
manner
thx
Sebastian_
(there isn't a 0.2.1.24 package because 0.2.1.24 only fixes bugs that aren't relevant to Debian)
manner
0.2.0.34 is out of date i presume
strange, i guess ill do another update. i am using the repository info
Sebastian_
manner: ah, are you following the instructions on https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian ?
manner
http://www.torproject.org/docs/debian.html.en#ubuntu
seems so
Sebastian_
ok
so you added the deb.torproject.org repo to your sources?
and ran apt-get update?
manner
i think i didnt update the list
checking...
and could be why i have an outdated version although i entered it on the sources.list
ok 0.2.1.23
back in business
brb
thx seb
Sebastian_
you're welcome

Hello. On linux tor and polipo start automatically but i don't want this automatic operation. How can i disable this feature?
misc
depend on the distribution, but chkconfig should do the trick
ilter
i'm using kubuntu 9.10. Which config? torrc?
misc
update-rc.d is the tool, then
but usually, it is started by /etc/init.d/ stuff
Sebastian
ilter: that's really not a Tor question. Every distribution does it differently. On Ubuntu, "update-rc.d -f tor remove" should do the trick
if it doesn't, man update-rc.d
ilter
Ok thanks Sebastian and misc. I'm looking these files.
weasel
Sebastian: that's bad advice.
Sebastian
weasel: cool, please give better advice. I'll try to remember for next time
weasel
Sebastian: that way the next upgrade will put things back. update-rc.d isn't the tool end-users should use.
Sebastian
is it the defaults thing?
weasel
"update the symlink in etc/rc2.d."
e.g. mv S20tor K20t

or: kaner committed revision 21940 (/weather/trunk): Work around TorCtl's thread leak
Sebastian
oh wow, that's what an end user should do?
ilter: there you see what happens when you ask ubuntu questions in #tor, you get crappy answers from me.
:/
ilter
weasel: Don't worry i'm trying not to be basic end-user:) Thank you for your advise. I'll try it and ask you if i need help from private chat because of Sebastian's sensivity :)
Ok Sebastian you seem right. Sorry i think that maybe there is an option on Tor config file to do this.
Sebastian
ilter: no worries, what I meant to say is that it's more likely to get the right answer the first time in a different channel
ilter
;-)
Thanks, i'll keep your advise.
Sebastian
good thing weasel was here to correct it :)

takamichi
hey
Who can recommend a good commercial vpn privacy provider?
IS there anyone here that knows someone who runs a privacy service?
pipe
commercial and privacy are two words that often don't work together
webmind
nope, if you run it commercially, you run the risk of being tempted of getting large offers for information
pipe
Could be interesting if it was somehow possible to set up pay-only tor exit nodes
That you could only use if you have some certain token on your computer, that you can acquire anonymously
takamichi
thanks pipe, I appreciate that
