why is freenode blocking me for using tor when im not?
im just hosting a bridge!
Sergio`
I'm trying to use elinks with privoxy and tor and I uncommented the line forward-socks4a / 127.0.0.1:9050 . and restarted privoxy but I'm getting SOCKS request rejected or failed. What could I do?
rudi_s_
Sergio`: Are you sure Tor is running (and listening on 9050)?
Did you set the proxy in elinks? http and https to localhost 8118?
Sergio`
rudi_s_: yes.
I can't make it work with polipo too. Tried in elinks and firefox with torbutton.
rudi_s_
Sergio`: Do you get the privoxy error message?
Sergio`
Yes.
rudi_s_
Sergio`: Ok. Did you restart privoxy after making the change (AFAIK it's necessary)?
Sergio`
It takes a long time and then display a message with SOCKS request rejected or failed at the end.
I did.
rudi_s_
Sergio`: Maybe Tor is not working, check the log files.

Sergio`
That's the end of it.
It was faster to paste it in msg, sorry.
rudi_s_
Sergio`: np, looks like a problem with your ssl library, but I'm not sure. Better pastebin it and put the link here, maybe a developer knows more.
mete1989
how I can send a HUP to my tor process without init script? ;)
rudi_s_
mete1989: kill -HUP id-of-tor
mete1989
ok thanks rudi_s_
rudi_s_
np
mete1989
is it a bad option if I set always in the night the bandwidth to 2mb/s and in the morning back to 1mb/s ?
shahn
mete1989: no, that's ok

I acces freenode through tor, and quite frequently my connection to the relevant hidden services is lost, prompting my client to connect again and join me to the channels I was in. This is really annoying. I can understand that the Tor network may be somewhat `fluid' or `dynamic' or whatever, but what isn't their more robustness builtin? Is this a Tor problem or a freenode hidden-service problem? The guys at #freenode (on freenode) blame tor.
what isn't == why isn't
their=there
anat
mfwitten: do you have the same problem with oftc?
ppk
freenode is saying it requires a "sasl" script to be loaded before you can connect to thier network using freenode. can this show your ip?
their*
using tor*
arma
it shouldn't.
whether it can in practice, hard to say for sure.
ppk
arma, what do you mean?
also, is there a way to use multiple tor circuits at one time?
arma
tor will do this automatically, in a way that balances security with performance
dr|zed
ppk: you open map view in Vidalia you can get a visual on tat.

"The signature section contains the following item, which appears Exactly Once for a vote, and At Least Once for a consensus." dir-spec.txt
router_get_networkstatus_v3_hash() makes that statement valid, but for clarify: K_DIRECTORY_SIGNATURE can be defined as T1N, T defined as "used for obsolete document types" after all.
it's networkstatus_vote_footer_token_table
CERTIFICATE_MEMBERS do not contain K_FINGERPRINT, so it separately included in dir_key_certificate_table and networkstatus_token_table. The last one define it as T "obsolete". Any reason why it separated and T?

is there a way to run icmp packets through tor?
i.e. can i ping through tor?
or do i have to "hack" it and measure the time between syn and ack?
Sebastian
no
_dfi_
syn and synack obviously not ack ;)
Sebastian
Tor only transports tcp and dns
_dfi_
ok, thanks - i do a syn->synack or ack->rst then ;)
webmind
_dfi_, you could using onioncat, but that's requires access to both ends I think
and it's ipv6 only I think
_dfi_
i think i'll try proxychains + nmap -sP first :)
misc
or use httping ?
_dfi_
misc: never heared of that - *google
ah, perfect
misc: thanks :)
misc: thats what i was looking for
bigstonebang
I recently installed the latest Tor release on my flash drive but cannot get it to work
misc
on what os ?
bigstonebang
windows
The proxy server is refusing connections
Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
* Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
* Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is
working.
misc
and so, privoxy or polipo is running ?
bigstonebang
I assume polipo is running although i don't see an icon like privoxy
misc
well, can you check ?
bigstonebang

PaulePanter
Hi guys. I set up a TOR server. `nload` shows that incoming trafic is on average 550 kBit/s and outgoing on outgoing is on average 800 kBit/s.
The server should have a much higher bandwidth. Is there a way to see, if TOR is utilizing the whole bandwidth.
?
mete1989
PaulePanter: how long is your server running?
bigstonebang
I cant tell if is running or not should it show up a process in task manager? are you familiar with tor on windows?
PaulePanter
mete1989: Since Feb 26, so around three days. I noticed that it gets higher over time, but it seems to have stagnated to increase since yesterday.
mete1989
hmmh
I never used tor on windows
only on linux
hwo much bandwidth you've configured in tor?
PaulePanter
mete1989: I did not configure any bandwidth in `/etc/tor/torrc`. Are there any defaults set?
bigstonebang
misc: how do i tell if polipo is running or not
dun
there should be a polipo.exe in your process list
bigstonebang
what if there isnt one
how do i make it run
dun
I dont know about Tor on windows, sorry. only used tor browser bundle once
mete1989
sam here dun =)
my bridge is only pushing ~1.2mb/s :((
dun
you run a bridge?
PaulePanter
mete1989: I am running an exit node. Can I query TOR to show me its current bandwidth usage.
mete1989: Converting it to kB it is only 100 kB/s on my server. But it should be 10 MB/s.
dun
you could use arm to see exact bw usage - http://www.atagar.com/arm/
(requires python)
PaulePanter
dun: Thanks! I did not know about this and the ControlPort. I am just trying it out.
dun
you're welcome
PaulePanter
Is 60 KB/sec the default TOR server bandwidth?
waltman
"man torrc" says it's 5MB
PaulePanter
waltman: There is nowhere written, that the commented values are the default values.
waltman
"A token bucket limits the average incoming bandwidth usage on this node to the specified number of bytes per second, and the average outgoing bandwidth usage to that same value. (Default: 5 MB)"
PaulePanter
waltman: Anyway, my TOR server installation is still way below that with 60 KB/sec.
waltman
This is in the torrc manpage, which is where all those values are documented.
along with a whole bunch that aren't in the default torrc file
PaulePanter
waltman: Sorry. I just looked in the torrc file and not in the manpage since there are also comments in torrc.
dun
PaulePanter: are there any warning in your notices log?
PaulePanter
dun: Just once the following warnings: [warn] DH key must be at least 2., [warn] Rejecting insecure DH key [0], [warn] Rejected invalid g^x
dun
mh, ok
PaulePanter
Well, I guess I will wait some more days and look if bandwidth usage increases. If not, I will contact the list.
dun
I have no idea. no warnings means you are not running out file descriptors. so you bw usage should be higher after then 60kbs after 4 days
*of
oh man, I should drink some coffee before I try typing :)
PaulePanter
dun: I could understand your post.
dun
PaulePanter: try asking in the evening, maybe there are more people around
PaulePanter
dun: Was »*of« a typo? If not, what does it stand for?
dun
never mind :) It was meant to correct "out file descriptors" to "out of file descriptors"
PaulePanter
dun: Thank you for the hint. or-talk looks pretty active. So I hope I will get some hints there too.
dun
ok, good luck
PaulePanter
Or is tor-relays the better place to ask.
If I am running an exit node is that also considered a relay?
dun
or-talk should be fine
yes, since youre relaying traffic
PaulePanter
dun: Thanks!
dun
you're still welcome :)
atagar
dun: pity, he's gone - in case of file descriptor limit issues there's a popup ('d' on the page with the graphs) to show the usage and limit
dun
ah, ok
Gopher
hallo zusammen
ich bin auf der suche nach einer datei mit der ich tor nur mit deutschen österreichischen und schweizer proxys nutze
kann mir von euch jemand weiterhelfen?

Gopher: some tor GUIS can let you do that
tork does it, don't know if vidalia lets you
Gopher
hmm
i am using the usb version
did u know what i need to change
i think its the torrc dokument
but idk ;)
dun
Gopher: yes, its torrc. there is an option called ExitNodes
does anyone know which format country codes in there should have? is "ExitNodes de,at,ch" correct? I never used it
Gopher

dun
ah. so "ExitNodes {de}, {ch}, {at}" and "StrictExitNodes 1" should solve his problem?
Gopher
oh im sorry
ok at my file is no node inside
u can see
dun
you have to add this two lines to it (I guess)
Gopher
i paste it into chat
k
dun
without "" of course :)
Gopher
ok leme test it
and tyvm
i hope it works for me
ok it doesnt works if i try to register an email adress at this webpage
http://user.web.de/all.jsf?mc=produkte@freemail@home@button.produkte@freemail@reg
can anyone check it if it works?
this page only works with german austrian and swiss ip`s
bja
Gopher: Did you restart tor?
Gopher
yes
dun
maybe they're blocking tor exit IPs due to abuse
Gopher
yes possible
is there any other way to register anonym at this page?
dun
mh. I think so, yes. accessing it through my (private) proxy server doesnt work either, and its definitely german IP. I guess they are blocking all Tor IPs
you can try JAP, but this is probably blocked, too.. no idea.

does anybody know of a tool that allows you to sign "messages" with keys of type used by hidden services?
