G-Lo
there's a useless Piding folder in the TorIM browser bundle, version 1.3
Goldstein
hi ho

Sebastian
G-Lo: please file a bugreport at https://bugs.torproject.org
G-Lo
\tor-im-browser-1.3.0_en-US.exe\Tor Browser\PidginPortable\App\Piding\
Goldstein
that should be Pidgin folder
so it's misnamed, not superfluous
G-Lo
no, there's also a pidgin folder, with lots of things inside
the piding is empty
Goldstein
ok
G-Lo
done

uhm
Malkovich is starting to bug
keb
haha whereis phobos "Designed to protect his blog from comment spam, it requires submitters to type the word orange into a text box when they provide a blog comment."
"This trivial speed-bump, which would horrify any (non-pragmatist) security expert, has been effective in stopping virtually all comment spam"
Runa
Sebastian: asking me what's up with what?
(something with translations and de/faq.wml)
wtfiswrong
For me, git.torproject.org is down. I can't browse the repository or pull from the repos, though pinging works.
I always get "Connection refused" for other activities
What's going on?
Goldstein
nice nick
wtfiswrong
Goldstein: Thanks; any ideas?
Goldstein
nope
i suspect that u just need to wait for an admin to reboot server?
wtfiswrong
Goldstein: It's been at least 2 days
Runa
git.torproject.org is down because we are moving the services to another server
wtfiswrong
Runa: Well, a fscking a notice would be nice; or did I miss it?
Runa
you can use gitweb.torproject.org, though. http://gitweb.torproject.org/tor/tor.git/tree/HEAD:/doc/spec works fine, for example.
wtfiswrong
Runa: You should update the "Browse the repository..." link on this page: http://www.torproject.org/documentation.html.en
At the bottom
Runa: Also, it would be nice if the "Developer" info were in a more prominent location; perhaps put it on its own page and provide a link at the top along with "Home Overview Download Docs Volunteer People Blog Donate!"
Runa
wtfiswrong: I don't think that anyone intended for the move to take this long. I can't reach the repository either, so I can't update any files.

wtfiswrong
:-/ Well Darn!
G-Lo
the TorVM version is still 0.3 ?
0.2, i meant
arma
g-lo: probably. the tor vm guy hasn't made progress lately.
anybody want to pick it up? :)
Sebastian
in case people like wtfiswrong come back: There was a msg to or-talk.
Runa: Some of our websites link to a german faq page, but that doesn't exist.
Runa
Sebastian: the file does exist, but it's empty
Sebastian
right
the question is, why does it exist
Runa
don't know, we can delete it later :L)
arma: is there a todo for tor vm?
Malkovich
what about public tor-proxy gate? like, if some body open 8118 port of his own privoxy to world?
arma
runa: https://svn.torproject.org/svn/torvm/trunk/
malkovich: probably he will get found by spammers who think he's a (very slow) open proxy
Malkovich
I really think about web face for tor, where we can get more information, like map, with current way(imho it can be done by ajax), and if, this will combain with such proxy, some element of control current web-proxy-node, like strict exit node, etc...
is it interesting?
Sebastian
Malkovich: hrm. If you want to write it, go ahead, but it might not be a super-smart idea
Malkovich
why you think so?
Sebastian
generally, you want to seperate the Tor control stuff into a seperate application from the Tor using app
also, this wouldn't be integrated into the Tor client itself, so you would need an additional application like Vidalia anyways, and then you can just go and use Vidalia's gui.
Malkovich
it's like TorK or Vidalia, but just complited by web-tools, so cross-platform, and another ability
Sebastian
Another big blocker is that Torbutton supports "Tor on" or "Tor off" for the entire browser, but not a mixed state
that means that you'd try to use your web interface via Tor
that's of course not a good idea.
You can circumvent this by still allowing local addresses, but this gets messy.
I agree that it could be an alternative to TorK or VIdalia
but someone needs to write it
None of us will, I'm pretty sure.
Malkovich
this is the main point... i hate kde, and wanna map from vidalia
)
Sebastian
Vidalia has a map, and should work without kde?
Malkovich
if get any good authentificated {proxy,web}-face
it is work on bsd system?
is it
Sebastian
I'm not sure if it works on bsd. Try it
Malkovich
i think that its work only on windows
Sebastian
Vidalia definitely works on Linux and OS X.
I've used it on both.
Malkovich
ok, thanx, will try
gernot
If I understand correctly running a bridge requires less bandwidth than a relay. What I can't find out is how little a bandwidth would still be useful. Or did I misunderstand and a bridge should have 20kb/s as well?
Sebastian
gernot: a bridge should have 20kb/s as well
gernot: there are bridges using huge amounts of bandwidth
how much yours will use is mainly a factor of how many people know about it, without the wrong people learning about it
arma
i think a bridge with 10KB/s is still useful if the alternative is not having it
Sebastian
arma: do the bridge distribution mechanisms look at bridge bw before they give one out at all?
arma
nope
Sebastian
ok, thought so.
arma
we could imagine weighting which ones we give out by bandwidth,
Sebastian
well that has other problems.
arma
but then the fast you are, the quicker the bad guy will find you
Sebastian
right.
I thought we had the 20kB/s limit for bridges in place, though
(like we do for relays)
arma
looks like bandwidthrate has to be at least 20kb, and maxadvertisedbandwidth at least 10kb
but that's your bandwidthrate config setting. slightly different from what you actually have.
Sebastian
right
but lying's bad, mkay?
arma
way too absolutist for my world :)
keb
how long does it take mozilla to approve add-on updates?
arma
varies wildly i believe
keb
still waiting for torbutton 1.2.4
arma
torbutton had some troubles with the last round of approval, because torbutton hooks firefox pretty deeply
firefox is trying harder to not approve extensions that will screw up firefox
and they have some rules now that the approval people try to follow blindly
mikeperry is on vacation until todayish, so maybe he'll be back and you can bug him about it
it's probably stuck in some queue somewhere and he has to bug people
keb
and svn is down so we cant update the website
Sebastian
svn should be back up rsn :)
keb
good time for a vacation
for me ;)
they should just build torbutton into firefox "private" browsing mode
arma
the latest torbutton actually disables private browsing mode when you turn tor on. it's got too many privacy holes.
keb
heh
OFFShare
should'nt this be updated: "#if OPENSSL_VERSION_NUMBER < 0x00907000l" ??
arma
why?
OFFShare
is it not "0.9.8l" or does this "0x00907000l" name the correct version?
arma
that's 0.9.7l
actually
no, that's 0.9.7
the l tells c it's a long
OFFShare
and for "0.9.8l" the version should be "0x00908???l" , hmm will lock that up..
arma
no, the l is not part of the version number
OFFShare
0.9.8l has a version number : "0x009080cf", evry build with a bad SSL will get an error and is forced to use save veresion.
"tls->ssl->s3->flags &= ~SSL3_FLAGS_ALLOW_UNSAFE_LEGACY_RENEGOTIATION;"
means: we dont care ?
arma
we do care, and we're using it safely.
OFFShare
got it. :)

arma
gooood morning mr perry.
it would appear so.

Runa
udolfonsog: are you using tor?
Sebastian
udolfonsog: it seems that wikileaks is down for now.
Runa
"To concentrate on raising the funds necessary to keep us alive into 2010, we have reluctantly suspended all other operations, until Jan 11."
OFFShare
no money, its down...contribute..
udolfonsog
is there no ohther domain or possibilty to visit
arma
sure looks like they've made it hard
OFFShare

Runa
OFFShare: nah, points to the same thing
OFFShare

udolfonsog

500 internal server
i thought they have many dominas?

arma
they do. and they've artificially taken them all down, i guess as a publicity stunt to raise money.
udolfonsog
ok
arma
http://freehaven.net/~arma/20-things
corrections, fixes, etc happily accepted. major changes happily accepted if they come with patches. :)
misc
why is it called 20 things when the title is 10 thing to know ?
arma

http://freehaven.net/~arma/10-things

Underflow
Does somebody speak french ? (quelqu'un parle fran├žais?) :p
Sebastian
not me, sorry.
Underflow
Arf ok.
I'm going here to get some help about TOR! I hope someone could...
Sebastian
maybe you can try to ask your question in English
I'm sure we can help you.
Underflow
of course i can :p
I want to write a program using MS winsock components
And a want that this Winsock component use TOR to send data. I'm searshing documentation to do that
Sebastian
Tor is a normal socks proxy
Underflow
So i need to send data to localhost:9050 with my winsock component ?
Sebastian
right
if you speak socks to it, you should be all done.
Underflow
Mhh :^p i don't really have some knowledge about it. Can you give me some (english) documentation about Sock proxy ?
(sorry for my english)
(i know it's really bad)
?
Sebastian
no problem, you're english is fine
Maybe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOCKS has some pointers
Underflow
I've a last question if you are always here
kmacy_
Sebastian: s/you're/your/
:P
I always make that mistake on IRC in spite of being a native speaker
Underflow
xD
No problem =)
I want to choose my nationality IP
Is it possible

I want to keep a french IP when I use TOR
