phobos: aha, i just subscribed to the list and gmane relayed the message, so it seems the mailing list was rejecting the message somehow
phobos: strange that you didn't have a record of the rejection before, though

Where can I find the app using this "[warn] Your application (using socks4 to port 80) is giving Tor only an IP address. Applications that do DNS resolves themselves may leak information. Consider using Socks4A (e.g. via privoxy or socat) instead. For more information, please see...."
Manny
calwig: unset your dns settings and see what breaks
phobos
tor doesn't know
it just knows it saw a request for an ip, not a hostname
calwig
'ta hell
Manny: I'll have a look at it in a few mins
or maybe tomorrow, not sure where or if anything is leaking
bbl
Manny
it might simply be an app that uses a hard coded ip
but i doubt it
BarkerJr
right, lots of apps use IP addresses, for things like p2p
JustZisGuy
I have a question: I'm installing Tor on Ubuntu 9.10. When I download the Polipo configuration file, firefox throws up an "Untrusted Connection" warning (invalid security certificate). Should I just ignore and add an exception?

BarkerJr
it's a tossup... I would probably turn off content filtering for https
JustZisGuy
ok, thanks
BarkerJr
np
Sebastian
no
you should not ignore that warning
please provide the link here.
JustZisGuy
sure
https://svn.torproject.org/svn/torbrowser/trunk/build-scripts/config/polipo.conf
Sebastian
yes, I get the same problem. phobos: Did we not fix the cert chain?
JustZisGuy: hrm. Sorry you're running into this problem, that's an issue on the server side.
JustZisGuy
ah, ok, thanks for the info.
Sebastian
(or an issue on the server and an attack)
JustZisGuy
heh
guess one doesn't preclude the other
Sebastian
unfortunately not.

Hi. I just saw an update to 0.2.2.8-alpha, is there a changelog for this version?
qbiort
http://gitweb.torproject.org/tor/tor.git/blob/HEAD:/ChangeLog
rudi_s
qbiort: Thanks, but 0.2.2.8-alpha isn't marked as released (or I'm missing something).
rrr_
rudi_s: gitweb now lags 10 days behind the actual repository contents
rudi_s
rrr_: Oh, why is that? Is there a way to get current versions (without downloading the whole git repo)?
rrr_
rudi_s: not sure why. here's what changed in the Changelog since then - http://pastebin.com/f68d6853b
rudi_s
rrr_: Thank you.
hihos
guys
is there a way to rehash config files in tor under windows so my changes can
take effect without the need to stop and restart tor
Sebastian
if you have a control port app, yes

hihos
yes i do
using vidalia
anyone could give a quick hand on that?
Sebastian
well, all the settings you apply via Vidalia are effective immediatly
don't think you can make it reload the torrc though
hihos
well the changes are in the torcc file
Sebastian
ask in #vidalia, but prepare to be told that it doesn't work
hihos
ok how do i do that in linux - perhaps kill -SIGHUP nad tor pid?
Sebastian
gitweb should be update as soon as the dns update is done
hihos: yes
hihos
10x
can i use dnsel the tor service in windows?
Sebastian
erm, what?
hihos
I read that tor has a dnsel service
Sebastian
yes
it does
you can query it via dns
so sure, you can use it on Windows
hihos
always what i want to find a previous seen link on the net , i can not.D***
Sebastian
rudi_s, rrr_: In case you didn't notice above, gitweb moved to 38.229.70.11. As soon as dns is updated you'll see it.
rudi_s
Sebastian: Thanks.
rrr_
Sebastian: oh, indeed. and url parameters now are different, http://gitweb.torproject.org/tor/tor.git/blob/HEAD:/ChangeLog would not work (Not Found)
Sebastian
right. But can you find your way to the changelog?
rrr_
yep, sure. http://gitweb.torproject.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=tor.git;a=blob;f=ChangeLog;hb=HEAD
Sebastian
indeed. I'll change to the pretty urls, but it will still be slightly different.
rrr_
it's just the old url is mentioned on the website - http://www.torproject.org/download.html.en
Sebastian
yes. I'll look into updating the website, too.
Currently I'm writing descriptions for all the repositories
there
descriptions added
calwig
Hello people
Sebastian
hey calwig, you talked about something yesterday, what was it?
nsa
or: sebastian committed revision 21537 (/website/trunk/include): Correct URLs for gitweb
Sebastian
rrr_: Urls will work once the website was pushed.
hihos
guys
is there a way to run a tor server behind a firewall
Sebastian
hihos: yes, if you can open/forward one port
hihos
if i can not?
Sebastian
no, sorry
nsa
or: sebastian committed revision 21538 (/website/trunk/include): Update URLs for gitweb again
BarkerJr
you can set vidalia to use upnp if you have that
nsa
or: sebastian committed revision 21539 (/website/trunk/include): Update gitweb urls once more

anyone around?
real_person_man
coderman?
anybody?
Sebastian?
dr|z3d
Sebastian
just ask your question
and STOP highlighting random people.
real_person_man
it's not random. you are the only guys that seem to know what you are talking about
there was a version of vidalia that allows user to block nodes in certain countries
it used to be the trunk version, but it is not now
dr|z3d is the one that first told me about it
is that a bot doing that or is it the real z3d?
lkjfdklsj
sorry. i seem to have been disconnected
ujjain
How anonymous is Tor?
weasel
17.2
mids
some say 19.6
ujjain
I am looking for a recommendation for an anonymous OS.
LoRez
running 0.2.1.22, my tor nodes keep getting stuck at 10% while bootstrapping
Sebastian
What OS?
LoRez
gentoo unfortuantely
and I can't type.
Sebastian
hm. Anything special in your log?
LoRez
[warn] TLS error: unexpected close while renegotiating - is that special?
Sebastian
yes, of course
that tells us what the problem is
Diareal
It is time to put those Haitian jigaboos in their place! No matter how many times the civilized world donates money, opens schools, rebuilds their nation, and holds their little monkey paws, the damn niggers can never get it right. They never will! The same goes for New Orleans! Cancun in Mexico suffered few fatalities after their major hurricane, and the rebuilding is already completed. What have the
niggers in New Orleans done? If you a
re sick of this, join Chimpout Forum! http://www.chimpout.com/forum
Sebastian
LoRez: your openssl might be especially patched to disallow renegotiation, or you might just have to upgrade Tor. Filing a gentoo bugreport would be the right thing to do
Malkovich
Hello, brothers!
Help me, please!
Which the best way to torify qemu with windows?
please...
Is there exist?
Sebastian
Malkovich: stop that.
calwig
Sebastian: what did he do ?
BarkerJr
pinged the entire channel
calwig
oh yes right
felt the poke
BarkerJr
it's things like that which make me not help the person even if I know the answer
calwig
but you aren't supposed to say that in here
BarkerJr
right you are
calwig
its just kept in the back of your mind
so people understand if they demand
phobos: I demand answers now!!!
they know what they're asking for
:P
BarkerJr
what's holding up the 0.2.2.8 alpha release?
at this rate, 0.2.2.9 will be out before 0.2.2.8
Sebastian
arma being not at a conference, I think
most packages are available, though, afaik
if some are missing, we're waiting for phobos to make them.
BarkerJr
but not the one that I use (windows) :)
Sebastian
ok, that's phobos I think
Malkovich
Is there jabber mirror of this channel?

Why main tor servers based on debian?
If the main goal of project is security with anonymity
why debian?
Sebastian, could you answer me?
Sebastian
The Tor directory authorities run on many different platforms
misc
well, i think windows would be less secure than debian
calwig
you think ...
Sebastian
--> #nottor.
Malkovich
))
Why you, dear, do not use openbsd (like ultra secure platform) for so aspecial project? What do you mean many different platforms? Six(or eight main nodes) and many different platforms?
Sebastian
I told you where to go with your pointless questions.
Malkovich
But, i ask about security of tor project? Why --> #nottor?
