Sebastian
erm
What the fu*k
now I am using the static openssl
and am getting renegotiation errors.
ln5
the plot thickens
Sebastian
and now not anymore
murb
hmm my tor bridge appears to have crashed.
Sebastian
murb: yes, 0.2.2.7-alpha has a crash bug.
murb
tor[25726]: segfault at 1700000005 ip 00007fd417087969 sp 00007fffb990dc20 error 4 in libc-2.10.2.so[7fd417012000+14a000] # ungood
ah
Sebastian
do you build from source?
murb: if not, please downgrade to 0.2.1.22 until 0.2.2.8-alpha is released.
ln5: try rm -rf ~/.tor, then run your tor again
(or move it away, or whatever ;p)
murb
Sebastian: ah, i appear to be pulling in a new tor package..
Sebastian
murb: hm?

andreij
i can not use my OR as first hop?
Sebastian
murb: for the record, there is no updated bundle yet
murb
Sebastian: experialtal apt repo.
experimental even.
Sebastian
that won't have the bug fixe
d
the bug fix hasn't been merged to git master yet.
andreij
i am behind a NAT router, can i run multiple OR on my network, they would have the same external ip
Sebastian
andreij: up to 2
papul
anyone to help me here?
Sebastian
only if you ask a question
BarkerJr
so, I'm thinking, from a tax perspective, it makes more sense to donate the money I would have spent on a relay to tor to let them run the relay
Sebastian
except that Tor doesn't run relays
BarkerJr
where's it say that? :P
papul
how to run relays in debian?
Sebastian
Install Tor as on https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian
once you've done that, come bak
back
:)
papul
Sebastian: done already
i am connectted to oftc via tor
Sebastian
ok
papul
Sebastian: so how to run relays?
and why the fu*k am i lagging?
maybe due to tor
Sebastian
yes, Tor induces some latency
to run a relay, you need to edit your torrc file (it's in /etc/torrc)
the important settings are:
qbiort
/etc/tor/torrc
Sebastian
hah
you're right.
so anyways, important settings:
OrPort, Nickname, Contact, ExitPolicy (do you want to be an exit node?)
papul
ok

Sebastian
Maybe DirPort
BarkerJr
only really old clients use dirport services, right?
Sebastian
BarkerJr: your Tor behaves a little differently when you enable it
but yes, recent clients should always use tunneled dir conns.
andreij
i use POSTDESCRIPTOR.. -> 512 Unexpected argument "router" to postdescriptor
i post descriptor in format "router ..."
like it is given by GETINFO desc/name/somerouter
arma
andreij: you need to use the multi-line controller syntax
andreij
how is this
arma ?
i end it with crlf . crlf
arma
alas, i'm not sure of the syntax. but you can't say "postdescriptor router", i suspect
andreij
+POSTDESCRIPTOR crlf router ... sigining key etc crlf . crlf
arma
ok. sounds good then.
(Action) is not here mostly, alas
ln5
<Sebastian> ln5: try rm -rf ~/.tor, then run your tor again
ok, did that. still works.
Sebastian
hrm
ln5
i use another libevent than you do
Sebastian
yeah
ln5
and, i lload libresolv for some reason
Sebastian
I thought about that
ln5
and you don't
Sebastian
I don't?
ln5
nope
Sebastian
hm.
ln5
% for f in libz.1 libSystem.B libssl.0.9.8 libcrypto.0.9.8 system/libmathCommon.A libresolv.9; do md5 /usr/lib/$f.dylib; done
MD5 (/usr/lib/libz.1.dylib) = 1e243b6fa215bf4f453d1125e5f678be
MD5 (/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib) = 65c39eeaedcbfb10d86cd9cdbefaf2f5
MD5 (/usr/lib/libssl.0.9.8.dylib) = c4d404ab688c502dfe0a0aefcebf3c5c
MD5 (/usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.8.dylib) = 2a592d45bfdaa227cc2f3edd83285b9b
MD5 (/usr/lib/system/libmathCommon.A.dylib) = fba9a4bb3d086a8c8f95fb620946c632
MD5 (/usr/lib/libresolv.9.dylib) = 2589548b9ba7b6292d415fe3850e1399
let's compare some more of the libs
Sebastian
all the same
ln5
neat
you have libevent statically linked?
you use 1.4.6, i use 1.4.2 from macports
could you try the one from macports perhaps?
Sebastian
hrm
I could
ln5
../configure --with-libevent-dir=/opt/local
it'll find header files too that way
Sebastian
I don't even have libevent from macports installed ;)
ln5
i use libevent @1.4.13 (devel)
Sebastian
wow
you're right.
no renegotiation problems
ln5
good
Sebastian
interesting.
ln5
very
will you update the bug report?
Sebastian
don't know what to update it with yet
ln5
that it works with libssl from /usr/lib but not with statically linked libevent 1.4.6 i guess, before ppl gets out of their way trying to replace libssl?
Sebastian
I'm not statically linking libevent 1.4.6
ln5
it's not listed by dyld in your pastebin
Sebastian
hm
that would mean Tor links it statically be default
I somehow doubt that
hrm
maybe nickm shows up soon
he's the libevent master

Tas
Sebastian: yes?
Sebastian
Tas: can you please upgrade your bridge once more?
Tas
sure, to what?
Sebastian
git fetch sebastian, git checkout sebastian/karsten_bridge_stats
we probably want to make a new release soon
Tas
ok, I'll try :-)
Sebastian
thanks
Tas
is that with a normal git first?
Sebastian
a normal git?
Tas
I've no idea how this git stuff works
hehe
Sebastian
ah
Tas
a full checkout or how that's called
Sebastian
a clone
Tas
yes
Sebastian
well, in the same thing you ran the "git remote add sebastian..." stuff yesterday.
qbiort
Sebastian: What is the address of your repo?
Sebastian
qbiort: git://git.torproject.org/sebastian/tor
Tas
yes, that's not threre anymore, sorry....
Sebastian
Tas: ah
let's start over then
git clone git://git.torproject.org/tor
Tas
I thought it would be fixed ;-)
Sebastian
git remote add sebastian git://git.torproject.org/sebastian/tor
git fetch sebastian
git checkout sebastian/karsten_bridge_stats
Tas
thank you!
Sebastian
then configure etc
no worries
Tas
yep, that I know :-)
Sebastian
we'll soon have a place where you can get tarballs
of any branch
Tas
if I would use git every day, it would be easier, but I don't :-)
Sebastian
sure
Tas
ok, new version is running, all looks normal so far
Sebastian_
great
to be clear, I expect 0 problems
Tas
ok
Sebastian_
but who knows
Tas
what does it change?
Sebastian_
It fixes another way how bug 1208 can occur, and prevents an infinite loop on invalid input
Tas
ah I see. I'll tell you if I see any problems
the version from yesterday d2id run well, too
Sebastian_
right, you didn't use a Tor controller like Vidalia with it, did you?
Tas
no, it's just a brisdge on a FreeBSD 8.0 server
bridge*
Sebastian_
sounds good
the other bug is triggered when the control port is used
Tas
but I didn't switch client functionality off, I think
so I can used that if needed
Sebastian
no
shouldn't be necessary.
Tas
I mean, I left it on intentionally, so that I can use it as local Tor client on the server
Sebastian
ah
ok.
ONid
Hello
Tas
like curl --socks5 ...
ONid
Is there any service in the Tor project to report "bad" hidden servers?
Has the Tor project the power to take down a pedophile hidden service?
Sebastian
no
ONid
but the Tor project can delete the hidden service descriptor from the directory, right?
Sebastian
no
phobos
there is no directory
Sebastian
hidden services don't use a centralized directory anymore
phobos
https://www.torproject.org/faq-abuse.html.en#RemoveContent
ONid
ok sorry, I was wrong there.
I'll take a look on that, thank you phobos
so maybe "
Sebastian
indeed it should
alas, there are many things that should happen
ONid
sure, hehe.
nsa
or: phobos committed revision 21499 (/website/trunk/en): replace directory server with DHT for now.
wseltzer
boo, Tor weather doesn't want to confirm my subcription (500 Internal Server Error)
Sebastian
ioerror_kef: ^^
wseltzer: weather is a pile of bugs, unfortunately :?
:/

why getinfo_helper_events() do return -1? "If there's no answer, or an error occurs, just don't set a. Return 0."
