Ok, looks like we're in the clear.

dr|z3d
You can ignore that for now, you don't absolutely need the gpg key hash to install and download, though you will see complaints.
You should fix that in your own time, we can ignore that for now..
Have you tried to install Tor?
Adding a key to your trust list is trivial.. is that what's holding you up?
no-name
yes
so just skip it?
mikeperry
one more commit fest

For now, sure.
mikeperry: Okies!
You should make sure you fix the key issue later.. we can bypass for the time being.

Or. You can simply save the gpg key hash and import that via Synaptic..

I even wrote an irssi perl script to redirect them there for me

I still like them in #tor.

people who want that level of detail should probably be in #tor-dev

people looking for help have no idea how to read commit messages
Sebastian
no-name: as i thought, but please use a pastebin from now on
mikeperry
they are often confused and thing this nsa dude is trying to help them answer their question
no-name
ok sorry
mikeperry
I've seen that happen many times
as funny as it is, it probably shouldn't be happening
no-name
what is the addy for pastebin?
Sebastian
no-name: "sudo chown -R dave:dave /home/dave/.gnupg"
dr|z3d
pastebin.com works.
mikeperry
yeah, pastebin.ca bans tor fyi
no-name
Sebastian done
Sebastian
no-name: stuff should work now.
dr|z3d
Yeah, noticed pastebin.ca being ropey with Tor a _long_ time ago.
Someone was proposing a pastebin hidden service, or perhaps that was Sebastian pushing a volunteer in that direction.
Sebastian
no-name: does it work now?
no-name
yes if it is installed then i run the gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net - .....
does it correct that issue?
Sebastian
it should
lokkju_wrk
dr|z3d, problem is preventing that pastebin from being used as a botnet update point
like twitter and pastebin.ca and others have been recently
dr|z3d
lokkju_wrk: Sure.. that would pertain to any pastebin, then, surely?
lokkju_wrk
dr|z3d, yes
nsa
or: mikeperry@seul.org committed patch by Mike Perry <mikeperry-git@fscked.org> at Thu, 17 Dec 2009 00:49:49 -0500 (EST) to torbutton/maint-1.2: Update version.
lokkju_wrk
dr|z3d, which is why many block tor, and why a tor pastebin may be hard to police
(assuming we really care...)
dr|z3d
lokkju_wrk: Sure.. I don't see a pressing need for another pastebin; we seem to have enough up and running to let others deal with the headache.

can i just copy https://svn.torproject.org/svn/torbrowser/trunk/build-scripts/config/polipo.conf and paste it to /etc/polipo/config or ~/.polipo
Sebastian
no-name: paste it to /etc/polipo/config
no-name
i seem to have it installed and did a am i using tor and it said im not
Sebastian
Did you install Torbutton and toggled it to using Tor?
if yes, go to https://check.torproject.org
no-name
installed not toggled
Sebastian
you have to click on it
it is in the bottom right corner of your firefox
no-name
yes it is green
Sebastian
so what does that url say?
no-name
Sorry. You are not using Tor.
gives me my IP
Sebastian
sudo netstat -nlp
does it list polipo?
no-name
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:9050 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 4677/tor
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8123 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 5005/polipo
Sebastian
does it also list privoxy?
(I suppose it does, on port 8118)
no-name
if u have polipo do u need privoxy?
Sebastian
no
please answer my question, I need to leave soon.
sudo netstat -nlp | grep 8118
that will show you
no-name
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8118 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 4603/privoxy
Sebastian
Ok. If you don't need it, apt-get remove privoxy
then /etc/init.d/polipo restart
no-name
done
Sebastian
does it work now?
no-name
now it is sating "The proxy server is refusing connections"
saying
Sebastian
ok
then you didn't put the polipo config in place correctly
I suppose you won't see polipo running on port 8118.
no-name
i redid the config and restarted it and
IT WORKS
Congratulations. You are using Tor.
THANK YOU Sebastian
Sebastian
you're welcome.
Did you figure out what the problem was when you tried to replace the config the first time around?
Maybe we can make our documentation better.
no-name
not sure
i reopened it with gedit and repasted it and it worked
off to bed wioll play laters THANKS again
Sebastian
you're welcome.
fabi
morgen
is it correct, that via TorControl with getinfo desc/<id> i can see the bw value, that's self-advertised by that router and with getinfo/ns/<id> i see the bw value that's adjusted by bwauthority votes and currently used for path selection?
arma
fabi: i hope so. at least, that's how i think it should work.
fabi
ok
python TorCtl parses only the descriptor values
so my controller would have never seen the new values, even if my authorities were producing them (what I'm actually trying to get working)
arma
could be.
also, tor 0.2.1.x i think doesn't provide the bandwidth numbers in the getinfo ns answer
fabi
ohhh
you mean no bw numbers or not the new ones?
arma
no w line at all
fabi
ok, but that's no problem, i can upgrade the clients
ok, seems to work. But the fields have other scales, right?
descinfo seems to be B/s and nsinfo KB/s?
no info about that in control-spec and dir-spec. or i'm blind again..
Sebastian
fabi: quite possible someone forgot to merge it to the spec
fabi
so can you tell me the units?
Sebastian
iirc, one is B/s and one is B/s / 1000
fabi
that's what i thought
Sebastian
not exactly
fabi
it's KiB/s
forgot an i
Sebastian
ok
see proposal 166
except no
no idea. you should file a bug. Someone needs to figure this mess out and fix the spec
