"this code is diseased, if it were a person i'd shoot it in the face"

delboy1978uk, thats why im writing this rest client....it has gotten to the point where i NEED to send nested data accross to the API and cant because the client doesn't support it, so to work around that im having to flatten the data structure and use REGEX to fix that again on the other side and its a massive mess
runinsquares, nice IT crowd reference
runinsquares
i think a lot of people assume that programming languages never change, and on top of that, there's only /one/ way to do something
so everyone writes the same code because it works
and ofc that infrastructure isn't important to maintain
delboy1978uk
lenswipe: ouch
runinsquares
i might try this
how old is your personal computer? 6 years? so you say it's time to buy a new one? how old is that codebase again?
then by the time it's done being written i can start over again for the next update :D
delboy1978uk
ive had my laptop 5 years and its doing just fine
lenswipe
delboy1978uk, brb...dinner
delboy1978uk

lenswipe

delboy1978uk

lenswipe

runinsquares

Siente
Hello guys, what do you think about Laravel?
delboy1978uk
crap
voodooKobra
nothing in particular
Siente
why?
delboy1978uk
i can see why it makes things easy though
Siente
what framework would you recommend me I want to learn PHP better?
delboy1978uk
but its so tightly coupled
symfony2 or zend framework 2
Siente
which one?
delboy1978uk
whichever you like better, try them both!
voodooKobra
I say Symfony 3 :P
(not out yet)
delboy1978uk
have you used an mvc framework before?
Siente
delboy1978uk, only CI
and have learned symfony, but haven't used it for any project so far
delboy1978uk
ah ok so you are familiar then. just jump in with 2 feet! youll get a feel and you can take your pick, they are both very good frameworks
runinsquares
i hear delboy1978uk is a fan of smartty
delboy1978uk
it sucks
its old
dont use it
Siente
but it seems hard to configure a web server under linux
ops
under windows I wanted to say
at home I am with windows
should I use xampp?
runinsquares
Siente, VM?

lenswipe
delboy1978uk, remember i told you that something was chugging away trying to fetch all the users?
delboy1978uk
if you are using windows, i recommend you install virtualbox, vagrant, and goto puphpet.com
lenswipe
an API method that timed out on my machine at work
delboy1978uk
lenswipe: yeas, what about it?
lenswipe
https://gist.github.com/robertmain/e39c891781a415231e02
that was the code responsible
delboy1978uk
Siente: !+xampp
php-bot
Siente, Dont use XAMPP or WAMP. Use a real dev server on a VM. Install VirtualBox and Vagrant, then head over to http://www.puphpet.com
Siente
and Vagrant ?
runinsquares
whhaaat you have !+
delboy1978uk
i can give you a sample config file to set you up if you like
sure i have been granted bot powers for my time here :)
runinsquares
Virtualbox is the engine, Vagrant is the steering wheel, puphpet is getting started guide
delboy1978uk, haha phpbot angry with me for doing the secret command :D
delboy1978uk
and it totally rocks
Siente
I have used virtualbox
but dunno what Vagrant is going to check out
delboy1978uk
good, next step is install vagrant
Siente
and also dunno what puphpet is
runinsquares
puphpet is a quick way to do everything you'd need to do in vagrant
delboy1978uk
dont worry well help you. youll have a fully featured server in 20 mins!
Siente
what machine do I need and how much drive space?
delboy1978uk
it auto downloads it dont worry about that stuff
runinsquares
well you need extra space for your boxes too
delboy1978uk
not sure how much space actually
i have one box with multiple vhosts on it
runinsquares
how much space can you spare? :D
Siente
that's my PC http://codepad.org/iXR2W8qN
runinsquares
that doesn't really help
delboy1978uk
wow nice stats
youll be fine
Siente
I have to install virtualbox now
runinsquares
i'm assuming you've got some space on that 1TB -somewhere-
but virtualbox will probably run better on the ssd
Siente
I have only 30 gb free on the ssd
runinsquares
lawl only
lenswipe
Siente, can i join the e-penis contest? :D
my work pc has 32GB of RAM
runinsquares
lenswipe, i bet they all run at different speeds
i bet if you opened that pc up you'd get angry
lenswipe
....probably :(
delboy1978uk
heres a basic config.yaml download it, and goto puphpet.com, and drag it in to load it! https://mega.nz/#!jAVHUIBA!zMoqyGgUMEdRlB3fq5ddJTA0ZgHjtsVwmq-hXyNGMtI
Siente
lenswipe, what do you mean?
lenswipe
runinsquares, i get angry anyway because with a Xeon processor and 32GB of RAM it still takes 15 fu*king minutes for Outlook 2010 to open
runinsquares
lenswipe, add more RAM#
Siente
delboy1978uk, is this for me?
delboy1978uk
yes
runinsquares
lenswipe, note: was sarcasm
delboy1978uk
its a config file me and my friends tweaked to get our server setups up and running
FalsAlarm
how do i loop through all the $_POST values but skip the $_POST['submit']
Siente
delboy1978uk, btw why not xampp /
delboy1978uk
just change the location of your website files, and add your vhosts and databases. ive added two as an example
tw2113
unset( $_POST['submit'] ); foreach ( $_POST as $item ) {}
NoiseEee
FalsAlarm: you should really only go after the $_POST values you care about specifically
lenswipe
FalsAlarm, protip: don't use $_POST
runinsquares
tw2113, make a copy rather than flat out unset $_POST value imho
