LawnGnome, i dont know what you meant with "but I don't know what additional restrictions userland libraries like that might have." but getting and showing my annotations works like a charm

somedays i feel lazy . . .i wish i could just go makeLoginPage(); makeWebApp();
or fileTaxes();
xmaddness

makeDinner(italian)

Hey, I just noticed that my PHP installation on my server no longer recognizes just "<?" for quick scripts instead of "<?php", is there a way to re-enable this?

runinsquares
http://php.net/manual/en/language.basic-syntax.phptags.php
unnu
short_open_tag in ini if you rolled back from 5.4+ to something older
wheresmypaaants
thanks
faLUCE
hello, I'm using apache on linux. When I upload a file, it creates a backup copy on upload_tmp_dir (of php.ini) and then copies it to the destination. is there a way to avoid a copy from tmp dir, but perform only a move, so the full process is faster?
unnu
move_uploaded_file()
wheresmypaaants
I just checked, short_open_tag is enabled
faLUCE
unnu: I wonder if is that function outside the webapplication
wheresmypaaants
Still doesn't work
DissidentRage
wheresmypaaants: shouldn't be using short open tags anyway
wheresmypaaants
Sorry, the person that taught me short open tags taught me to use that for quick scripting, I won't use it anymore but it's used in all of my code
faLUCE
unnu: I mean, is the webapplication that decides if to move or copy the file?
wheresmypaaants
*taught me php taught me to use short open tags
DissidentRage
so do find/replace
:P
unnu
faLUCE . . . what?
wheresmypaaants
That'd replace other tags that are <?php with <?phpphp
sorabji
wheresmypaaants: is better to not use them. but if you enable them, they'll be available
alreece45
faLUCE: Usually the application just moves the file, but if its on a different filesystem-- the system will copy it from one to the other (which will take longer)
unnu
wheresmypaaants, what is your code editor?
DissidentRage
then replace <?phpphp with <?php afterward
haha
faLUCE
alreece45: this is the problem. the filesystem is the same

wheresmypaaants
NB
Netbeans
faLUCE
alreece45: the filesystem is the same, but a copy is done
unnu
there should be an "match exact", if you used "<? " (note the space) you can just do one find/replace
unelss you pushed echo with it i.e. <?= , thats another one
sorabji
shortecho is fine
DissidentRage
^
unnu
(i use shortecho all the damn time, some people hate it
alreece45
faLUCE: PHP puts the file in the upload_tmp directory, the application code would copy/move it from there-- it probably needs to be updated to do so.
wheresmypaaants
unnu: Thanks I'll try that
unloading
Hi guys , can somebody explain me what specs i need to run a webshop ?
NoiseEee
a webshop?
__ADRian
"specs"?
runinsquares
unloading, that is such a vague question
deepy
unloading: you need a webhost and a database
unloading
:p i mean like the hardware
xmaddness
you mean a shop like an e-commerce shop
?
unloading
ye
__ADRian
unloading: something connected to the internet
unloading
pls ...
__ADRian
probably x86
xmaddness
that all depends on your target, your site, you code, your needs
runinsquares
find some cloud based provider
unloading
xmaddness: its a wordpress webshop with mysql database , small userbase i guess in the beginning
monodesigns
VPS?
__ADRian
unloading: this is serious advice. you almost certainly don't need to worry about hardware unless it becomes a problem. it probably won't for some time.
NoiseEee
you need people who know how to program.
__ADRian
I prefer a VPS for most projects.
xmaddness
I would probably start with a DO droplet of some sort and build from there as needed
runinsquares
if your business is so successful you need to improve performance then you probably have enough money by that point to outsource or hire someone
xmaddness
or build it into a docker and use that to move around
but alas, not really a question for #php I guess
NoiseEee
we moved all production to VPSs a couple of years ago and haven't looked back
unloading
ye im asking this question because i want to order a vps with the right hardware to run it smooth , but i have no idea how much ram/processor speed i need
NoiseEee
unloading: you don't need much until your site becomes a Runaway Hit (tm)
__ADRian
unloading: the answers are vague, because your question is so vague and nonspecific as to be _almost_ meaningless.
xmaddness
you would need to outfit your servers with nagios or new relic and see what the current throughput is
and scale from there
perhaps cache out on edge caching what you can
varnish, etc
runinsquares
don't throw too much jargon at him
unloading
__ADRian: i guess so , but i dont know how to be more specific.
NoiseEee
unloading: worry more about the software/coding quality, less about hardware
runinsquares
unloading, average server spec is gonna be fine for the beginning, you're overthinking
NoiseEee
you can ALWAYS throw more hardware at stuff
no need to commit to hardware on stage 1.
__ADRian
this is probably because you don't know any of the specifics of what you're doing. i don't mean this as an insult: it really sounds like you just had the idea, and assumed you could do it yourself and learn as you go.
runinsquares
in which case you could ask yourself if php is the right choice too :p
__ADRian
if this is the case, and you really want it to succeed, then you need to find people who have that knowledge.
xmaddness
mmhmm
I tend to look at anything through enterprise levels anymore heh
unloading
Sorry guys to come in your channel and ask a question about something i dont know hehe. Anyways im gonna follow the advice of start small and add later.
xmaddness
yeah
you can always throw more power behind this
__ADRian
unloading I'm understanding the basic question you're asking. it's just not the first question to ask. "something connected to the internet" was less of a smartass comment, and more of a "it almost certainly doesn't matter at this point."
and, it's hard to go wrong with a VPS.
unloading
__ADRian: ok thx man
xmaddness
I use Digital ocean vps's
other I'm sure use something else
but whatever fits your skill level
droid909
is there a workaround to put php_value in .htaccess when using fastcgi/ mod_fcgid ?
allowing it
