itrebal
damnit, i need to find out how to throttle internet :/
someone is playing CounterStrike on my network and it is destroying it
Suepahfly
thats usually done on the switch your on if im not mistaken
jfarrell
whoever wants to shake their head at American justice, read this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060523/ap_on_fe_st/crazy_cat_1
itrebal
Suepahfly: yea, i just moved him to another hub and it should be getting alot better (Stormchaser: thats why it was going so slowly)
Stormchaser
jfarrell: Holy... Um... Cats!
jfarrell
Stormchaser: interesting eh?
Stormchaser
jfarrell: f'ing idiots
itrebal
i wonder if theres a way to limit the connection to it...
jfarrell
Stormchaser: my dad always told me
if you become a lawyer i will disown you

Stormchaser
:)
itrebal
O.o! my connection is dead now
jfarrell
and i would wager if i ever tried to have a cat prosecuted he would hunt me down and kill me for stupidity
Jymmm
Cats are good for one thing... dog food.
jfarrell
Jymmm: and guardians of the underworld, according to ancient Cgyptians
*Egyptians
Jymmm
jfarrell and those ppl are dead, and the cats are still alive. think about it.
archivist
(Action) stabs Jymmm leave pu**y alone
jfarrell
lol
Stormchaser
Jymmm: That's the point
jfarrell
that is an entertaining point Jymmm
Jymmm
Cats should be on a leash, just like any other animal.
jfarrell
even a hamster
Jymmm
jfarrell unless caged
jfarrell
fine :)
Jymmm
they should be under 100% control of their owners
jfarrell
(Action) goes to find his hamster
archivist
(Action) needs a new pu**y
Jymmm
I dont' like cats becasue they kill for sport; and the only animal that I know of that does. I dont like huntinfg for sport either. Killing for food is another story.
Jax
Jymmm instincts ;)
Jymmm
Jax dont care why

jfarrell
i wonder how often cats attack humans?
EvanCarroll
Jymmm: No one cares.
archivist
when you sit on them
Jymmm
by that article, quite a bit it seems
Xyphoid
Does lovingly shredding you count?
Jax
cats can't help they exist
we breeded them
everything is our fault.
Jymmm
then they should be under their owners control 100% of the time
jfarrell
jax, we breeded dogs too
and hamster
Jax
why, did you get harrased by a cat Jymmm ?
jfarrell
and guinea pigs
Jax
jfarrell i know, i like them :D
had some guinea pig for dinner yesterday
mm
Jymmm
Jax scroll back
jfarrell
in fact most common human pets are domesticated breeds
Jax: disgusting
Xyphoid
enh, just deal with the 0.5% of cats that bite. they're badly socialised.
bullrage
http://hashphp.org/pastebin.php?pid=6870 -- can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
TML
I'm with Jax. It's time we took responsiblity for the world around us and killed every other form of life.
Jax
TML kill? assimilate!
Shane_N
mmm, daycare
jfarrell
TML: i think WW3 is still about 5 years way or so
Xyphoid
i'd rather get the damn seagulls under control first
TML
bullrage: Impossible to say without a description of the problem
jfarrell
Xyphoid: yeah no kidding
EvanCarroll
I think the only thing worse than Jymmm's personal convictions are PHP syntactical conventions.
jfarrell
i hate when they poop on my car
Milezteg
can anyone tell me how to compile mysql support into /usr/ports/www/php5-cgi/ ???
TML
Ducks. I hate ducks.
jfarrell
EvanCarroll: i rather take offense to that statement
Xyphoid
if we have to engineer the cats to be twice as big and graft wings on, so be it
jfarrell
:)
TML
Milezteg: #freebsd probably can
Jax
i hate birds. they make babies in my shutters early in the morning >;/
bullrage
TML: error in syntax, taking the variables from a form and inserting them into the database, but an error in syntax apparantly
Xyphoid
Aw, I like ducks. Any species that I can get worshipping me that easily deserves to survive.
Jax
now the stupid baby birds are in the shutter case thing
EvanCarroll
jfarrell: Darn.
TML
bullrage: Please provide the precise error message
Xyphoid
come, bow down before me - no food for you today, but grovel just in case!
bullrage
TML: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '143' at line 1
jfarrell
bullrage: you find that error difficult to understand
mm caffinated he really wasnt saying anything that bad
caffinated
jfarrell: it's always the same with him when he's here. bi**h about php, make some cheap shot at one of the ops
bullrage
jfarrell: what's the 143 for?
jfarrell
the best way to solve that error is echo the query to the screen and scan through it
its the text in the query where the error is found by
TML
bullrage: What that says is that the SQL generated by your PHP code is invalid.
Azhi_Dahaka
using the alternative notation for if ( if():, endif;) how can i use else
?
jfarrell
caffinated: i had no idea
bullrage: something like: select sh*t from tables where id = 143';
Xorlev
That's ironic. A perl bot in a PHP channel =)
jfarrell
that would cause that error
TML
bullrage: I have no idea what SQL would result from the PHP code you've shown us.
Xorlev: Why is that ironic?
Xorlev: There's no irony in being smart enough to know that PHP isn't the best solution for EVERY problem.
bullrage
TML: It would result in.. INSERT INTO dvd_title (id, title, year, genre, runtime, plot, link, added) VALUES (NULL, 'fsdf', 2005, 'sdfsd', 'dsdf', 'fsdf', 'sdfsd', NOW())
Xyphoid
bullrage: echo out hte actual query. not one you're guessing at.
TML
bullrage: I don't see "143" anywhere in that, so I highly doubt you're correct.
Xorlev
TML: I never said perl wasn't the better solution, I said it was ironic.
TML
Xorlev: There's no irony in choosing the best solution.
jfarrell
Xorlev: php is built on perl (or was)
star-trekio
is perl wakky
is php easier
jfarrell
and, as you can probably tell, like most languages Perl is one of its fathers
star-trekio: it is designed that way
Xorlev
Perl is very powerful.
jfarrell
(Action) write the one line program in Perl to fix all the effects of global warming
Xorlev
But, PHP is written in C/C++
Not Perl :P
jfarrell
iirc PHP3 was written in Perlk
TML
No
PHP/FI
jfarrell
err 2
or that
TML
Yes
cfg
hello

PHP V 4.4, I use xml_parser_create(..) to parse a 80KB document, takes 300ms on a 700Mhz machine. Is there any other and faster method then using xml_parser_create???
bullrage
Xyphoid: The 143 appears after the now()) when echoing the query
Xorlev
Have you tried simplexml, or do you need the more powerful abilities of xml_parser?
Err
Upgrade to PHP 5.1 then use it :P
TML
ries: Faster than 300ms? Almost certainly not.
Xyphoid
bullrage: so your code is adding that 143 somewhere to the query.
put the rest of the code on pastebin
Xorlev
But even so, 300ms is pretty fast, less than half a second.
TML
Indeed
jfarrell
bullrage: either that our your looking at the wrong query
Xyphoid
maybe you're doing mysql_query($sql.$dbhandle) instead of $sql,$dbhandle or something
TML
Parsing XML at 300ms on a 700Mhz machine is nothing less than remarkable.
cfg
apache outputs Content-Length header with length of responce, but, in my situation there is no Content-Length header, every one or more lines of script's output is preceeded by length of line(s)
ries
TML: yes 300ms... I find it kinda slow actually... the code is fairly optimized Xorlev it's relative... I also done this with compilers... and you can imagine that that is a bit faster... But my search stops here... 300ms is good enough I guess
cfg
anybody knows something about problem ?
TML
ries: For a high-level language, 300ms on the hardware in question is quite good.
ries
Xorlev: it also means that I can't handle more then 3 req/sec if I want to do it real time :)
Xorlev
ries: If you're parsing the same document, implement caching. If the filetime on the xml file changes, reparse, otherwise just store the parsed data.
bullrage
Xyphoid: http://hashphp.org/pastebin.php?pid=6871
Stormchaser
cfg: problem, problem... YEah, I heard about that word... Never knew what it does...
TML
ries: If you want to do things in realtime, you probably don't want XML. :)
ries
TML: as I understand... I will leave it like this :) if there is no newer functions in PHP4.4 then I pressed the most out of it
TML
cfg: PHP doesn't output the length of a line.
ries
Xorlev: I understand... however I have callbacks on nodes, so it's more complaicated to store a cached version of a array... but it's ok...
Xorlev
I prefer PHP 5.1 personally. I had absolutely no problems changing to 5.1 without any code changes (I did eventually change my classes to use __constructor and such though)
jfarrell
bullrage: make sure you havee or die(mysql_error()) on all mysql_query function calls
cfg
TML: i mean - that output from web server is something like this - 7
