dools
caffinated: blow me
caffinated
I bet tomorrow we'll get requests for a function that adds two numbers together and returns a result
dools: sure
Stormchaser
:)
mkrufky
ooh... i always tune in for the best parts of the conversation
Julian|Work
The non-PHP part?
mkrufky
lol
Stormchaser
caffinated: Aw... Thought you'd throw him out...
caffinated
probably the last part
Stormchaser: nah, i almost never do that anymore :)
Stormchaser: I think this is far more irritating for them
Stormchaser
caffinated: oh :)

albo
can i return from an include using return ?
caffinated
Stormchaser: besides, after a little while they almost inevitably leave on their own
Ricky28269
albo: return from an include??
caffinated
albo: if it's at the top level, i believe so.
mkrufky
ban without a kick will just prevent them from talking?
Ricky28269
interesting.
Stormchaser
caffinated: Or they find some other host, came back and bi**h.
caffinated
Stormchaser: *shrug*
Kenman_
why not just stay op'd?
Stormchaser
because frenode's policy
caffinated
Elviso: it serves no purpose.
Elviso
save you time having to op/deop
Stormchaser
(Action) always hated being always oped
caffinated
other to intimidate, which we don't really need to do.
Ricky28269
Elviso: think undercover cop :-D
Elviso
policy? can you only have X ops or something?
caffinated
Elviso: it's freenode's policy that people not idle with ops
Elviso: you can read about it at: http://freenode.com
ezrafree
thanks caf i figured it out! :)
caffinated
ezrafree: cool
Elviso
really? I see. I know people that do idle w/op, but it's in smaller channels

caffinated
Elviso: i don't believe it's strongly enforced. but their reasoning makes sense, so we follow it.
Elviso: think about it. where would you rather be? a place where everyone at least appears to be on equal footing? or somewhere where 30 people are sitting at the top of the list for no other reason than to advertise that they have power in the channel?
Adam_
is =. legal in PHP?
caffinated
i think you want .=
Elviso
caffinated: it really doesn't matter to me. I would actually prefer to know who the ops are, so that I would know who probably *knew* their sh*t better, and also to know who NOT to piss off :)
caffinated
=. would not be legal
Adam_
I want to add on to the end of the string
Oka
caffinated
Elviso: well, that is public information for those who care to query chanserv for it
Adam_
I'll just use $string = $string + "newtext"; That's legal right?
caffinated
Adam_: no
Adam_
Sorry I said that wrong
caffinated
Adam_: '+' is a math operator in php. you want '.'
Elviso
caffinated: every other system of authority I deal with, both in real life and virtual, plainly distinguishes those in charge....thus, it doesn't intimidate me at all.
Adam_
I want to add onto the beginning of the string
So it would be $string = "new stuff".$string; right?
caffinated
Elviso: then again, the system is not really about you. it's about the general population.
Adam_: that would work
Snoru
I'm echoing out a MySQL table via while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) into an HTML table, and I want to know how I could output an incrementing number (1, 2, 3, etc.) for each table row within the first <td> of every <tr>. Any suggestions?
Elviso
(Action) 's mother lied to him.
caffinated
anyhow, you asked why, that is why :)
there is always an op here
that's all you really need to know
Elviso
thanks for the information. I've come to recognize most of the ops (I think) by now.
enygma
uh-huh
sure you do
ficusplanet
Is there a maximum length for array keys?
Stormchaser
no
Elviso
lol...well, probably not :p but at least some.
Fango
Snoru: just have $counter=1; outside the loop. Call $counter in the td. Eg <td <?=$counter;?>> then do $counter++; at the end of each loop increment
Stormchaser
Elviso: s/some/few
Fango
Snoru: you probably want <td id="<?=$counter;?>"> in fact
yunien
hi, if i make a .htaccess with "RewriteRule .* /index.php
Stormchaser
#apache
yunien
how can i access the path the user typed in?
;-(
Kog
sup Stormchaser
Xyphoid
the freenode op policy is very nice, emphasising the technical nature of ops. I've seen groups of real life friends end up having serious fights over irc channel ops because people kick for fun etc.
Stormchaser
woof, Kog.
Kog
Stormchaser: ended up getting my RSS parser done... it's a cheap hack, but exactly what the guy needed
Stormchaser: it takes a URLEncoded email as a GET param, does the lookup and generates the RSS via building one long ass $xml var ;)
Stormchaser: no caching, no reuse
Stormchaser
Kog: Heh... I haven't even started mine... Too busy with my comic :)
Kog
cominc you say?
Stormchaser
no, I said comic
TML
Stormchaser: Mind a bit of (hopefully constructive) criticism?
Stormchaser
TML: sure :)
Kog
Stormchaser: ... I meant comic damnit
Stormchaser
Kog: It's not what you said :)
Kog
yeah yeah...
TML
Stormchaser: Your dialog (what I've seen thus far) seems a bit stiff/stilted
Snoru
What would make $counter=1 increase? Is that not just setting the variable $counter to 1?
Stormchaser
TML: What do you suggest?
TML
Remember that they need to talk like people in order for people to identify to them
Stormchaser: Getting someone else to read it aloud always helps me
mm2000
Snoru: $counter++; increases it. just echo the counter each loop.
Fango
Snoru, $counter++; will make the counter increase
TML
As would $counter+=1
jonez
as would ++$counter
or is that not valid in php?
mm2000
or $counter = $counter + 1;
TML
jonez: That's valid
jonez
ok
TML
$counter = $counter++;
Elviso
#php needs a wiki (don't ask why, I just like wiki's)
Snoru
Ah, I see. Let me try that.
Fango
or $counter = $counter - ((100*67)- 6701));
:-|
mm2000
but ++$counter aint the same as $counter++, right? The first is pre increment an the other post increment if i dont misremember...
Snoru
lol @ misremember
Stormchaser
TML: Well... the biggest problem would be, that I'm used to more or less "formal" speach...
I'll think of something...
mm2000
hehe
Snoru: what is the right word for it?
jonez
mm2000, you are correct.. they are not the same syntax, but they do the same job "increment $counter".. it depends on the situation which is more appropriate.
Stormchaser
mm2000: "remember correcty"
Mr_Eko
what does !== means?
Stormchaser
Mr_Eko: php.net/operators
Snoru
Misremember is more concise than remember correcty, though.
:(
mm2000
Stormchaser: ok. Sorry for my Swenglish!
Snoru
Thanks, Fango, mm2000, TML, and jonez for your help. It worked. :)

When I imagettfbbox with an negative angle and then render with imagettftext I get this: Warning: imagettftext(): Problem rendering glyph
When I skip the imagettfbbox and use the values it generates, it renders. bug?
majd
hi
nvm, i answered my question while typing it
Stormchaser
o.O
TML
Nuxi: Are you supposed to be able to create imagettfbbox()en with negative angles?
caffinated
TML: it should actually work with negative values for angle, in either function.
aec27
will mkdir(/a/b/c) come back with an error if a or b doesn't exist?
Stormchaser
aec26: What does the manual say?
aec27
nothing as quick as you saying yes or no, i was hoping for a quick answer, but no worries, i'll go read pages, and take 5 mins. nice one

If I had a big <textarea> box and had someone enter tons of text with enters.. is it possible to store new lines in db without having them enter <br> etc?
aec27
ok, so i read, came here, asked, got told to rtfm, went back, reread, still don't know, still no help, how does that help anything?
||cw
mugger: db's don't care about newlines
mm2000
eml: NO worries. Have to sleep soon anyway
