Stormchaser, if there is anybody still trying to use rh9 or fc1 in production, they are going to have more issues than the version of php that is installed.
absentia
I asked a guy I was interviewing.. recently.. about what was a bad bug he had made.. and fixed... in his code... he responded that he doesn't make bugs.
uh huh.
itrebal
gah, how does the list() function make sense :/
absentia
but he was happy to tell me a bug he fixed that was in someone else's code.
which amounted to a typo.
will[werk]
I don't make bugs in my code either. Some undocumented feature though.
Jymmm
absentia: Are you assuming released code, or dev code (still being worked on)?
absentia
jymm: R U 4 REAL?
Jymmm
!+aolbonics
php-bot
AOLBonics is talking using numbers, all caps or using single letters for you, are, you are, you're, etc. Examples are: Hey evry1; howz it goin?; how r u; oic; ur teh suckz. Talking like this is frowned upon in ##PHP, and will result in you being silenced. This rule is not open to debate, arguing about it won't help.

absentia
you miss my point.
that is not a hair to split.
jonez
absentia, it's easier to make the bot spew a guideline :)
absentia
true
Jymmm
absentia: If I'm writing a routine, and still writing the code, (hasn't left my comuter) that's one thing, but if it's been released, that's something totally different.
absentia
jymm: so, you too... have never made a bug?
Jymmm
absentia: In released, no.
absentia
no kidding?
*WOW*
jonez
*chuckle*
Zule
Everyone makes bugs in releases. Everyone.
I fail to believe code can have no bugs. Ever.
jonez
Zule, hush with the truth! no one wants to hear it. :)
Zule
Unless it's pathetically short, like < 500 lines.
(Action) hushes
absentia
screw fantasy island -- this planet has gone fantasy.. in the last decade. I missed the memo to get off this ride.
Jymmm
absentia: No joking. But here's the thing, what I wrote primarily has security or life-safety issues attached, so a bug in released could has harsh implications.
JAJMaster
it's not a bug...it's a feature
absentia
jymm: yes, I was born. did no coding, and then I went right to life and death coding systems..... just like you. neat!
Cambridge13
how ca i leave spaces between the date and the time?? i have this: echo "".date('d F Y') . strftime('%H:%M:%S');
kittyanya
even Bungie made a bug in Myth 2 that would delete the section it was installed on if you went to unintslal the game. So if you installed it on root, it would wipe your entire drive when uninstalling the game :P
Xyphoid
i love fixing bugs that are correct implementations of errors in the spec :(
absentia
kitt: awesome!
kittyanya
cost them $1 million to stop the game from hitting shelves >_>;

Jymmm
absentia: You can say whatever you want, but do nto catagorize mw with the majority of lazt basrad coders cthat can't get their head out of their ass.
TML
Xyphoid: I don't get much opportunity for that anymore. What're you fixing?
Jymmm
(less the typos)
Zule
I don't think laziness has anything to do with bugs.
TML
Jymmm: ...
Zule
Being human, mostly. It's easy to misread something on screen.
Cambridge13
how can i leave spaces between date and time? echo "".date('d F Y') . strftime('%H:%M:%S');
TML
Cambridge13: You don't need the "".
Jymmm
Zule you would be very surprised.
Cambridge13
if i dont put "" then it doesnt display it.
Qiang
hi, a question about mail() function. i am sending email as user www-data through postfix sendmail wrapper. i specify the 'From' but the email From is still "www-data@mydomain.com". anyone knows why? I am using the mail() function example from php.net . i couldn't figure out why..
absentia
hey, TML -- welcome back.. what do you think of this -- ...
TML
Cambridge13: Baloney
Zule
I am surprised. Personally I just don't agree code can have no bugs. Being human is the whole problem. If you work with thouts and thoughts of lines of code, bugs just happen.
absentia
grr.. my history lost it
Jy
Qiang, you have to send the correct headers
Cambridge13
What is Baloney?
Zule
eerr, thousands and thousands.
TML
Cambridge13: echo date('d F Y') and echo "".date('d F Y') are exactly the same, except on does more work
jonez
Cambridge13, it's a deli meat.
Zule
Sorry, I'm slightly dyslexic :)
absentia
anyone have my last rafb url in their lastlog?
jonez
Cambridge13, not particularly good for you, either.
TML
Cambridge13: It's a nice way of telling you you're wrong
Jymmm
Zule: you might want to look back on how the Mocks copied the Bible for centuries for an example.
Cambridge13
aha
absentia
jymmm: one last question -- is this "no bug" code... written in php?
Jymmm
Monks
absentia fu*k no =)
Zule
Copying is not originality.
kittyanya
(Action) giggles
TML
(Action) snorts at absentia
Cambridge13
yes but how can i put date and time in one line with spaces between them?
as i have it now it is all one word
Jymmm
Zule "Yes Dear"
TML
Cambridge13: If you're viewing it in a browser, remember that browsers don't always accurately display whitespace.
Qiang
Jy: can you take a look here ? it's a simple mail script .. http://sial.org/pbot/17216
absentia
anyone ?
dern
toste
oi
TML
Or, rather, their "accurate display of whitespace" doesn't match your concept of such
JAJMaster
qiang: if you are on a unix system, you need to have your php.ini file sendmail settings such that it will allow you to replace the from header.
toste
Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by
Cambridge13
at least i could try if i have the code
TML
!tell toste about headers
Cambridge13: echo date("d F Y");
Qiang
JAJMaster: okay, i will go read the php.ini file..
JAJMaster
qiang: you might have more luck using PEAR::Mail() with SMTP.
Xyphoid
er, nothing right now, just that most of the exciting bugs I end up fixing in released apps are vague places in the spec the app was built from.
absentia
TML : http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/8rl79m28.html
jonez
Qiang, the alternative is to use SMTP instead of sendmail.
(Action) agrees with JAJMaster
TML
jonez: You say that as though they're actually different things.
Cambridge13
yes right, but after that i want the time as well. I know the code but i cannot figure out how to adda space between the date and time. Now i have: datetime and i want date time
Qiang
JAJMaster, PEAR::Mail is not a package comes with the php dist?
TML
Cambridge13: echo "A" . " " . "B";
JAJMaster
Qiang: been a while since I installed, but I thought it was. If you have pear installed, it is trivial to add Mail
mm2000
I am thinking about to try another template-engiene for the next project. I am only familiar with yapter, and find it pretty ok (even if i hate to loop the blocks). Suggestions?
JAJMaster
cambridge13: why not just put the whole ting into your date() command?
toste
so i include the file bfore the <html> etc
TML
mm2000: Well, given your presence in ##PHP, might I recommend PHP as your templating engine? It's quite good at the task.
eml
Huh, what's a template engine?
mm2000
TML: hmm... did not get you there.
mkrufky
is it legal to pass a regular expression as a delimiter to 'explode' ?
TML
mm2000: PHP *IS* a templating engine.
No need to add another layer of templating on top of it
It's silliness
MarkL
mkrufky: http://php.net/split
eml
Is a template engine some kind of approach to MSV-coding?
mkrufky
lol silly me..... Thanks MarkL
TML
eml: You can use a template engine in Model-View-Controller (I'm assuming that's the same thing as "MSV")
eml: But they're definitely not tied to each other.
MarkL
Model-Stuff-Controller
Stormchaser
lol
TML
"Stuff"?
eml
TML, Yeah, MVC*. OK. I gues I fired off a very unnessecary question. Sorry 'bout that.
TML
MarkL: Surely you jest, sir?
mm2000
TML: i dont understand why. Lots of projects uses template engienes. Drupal for instance. Movabletype and a lots of others.
MarkL
TML: 'Stuff' is a technical term meaning 'language of choice'
eml
mm2000, There's "smarty". First google-hit on "template engine".
Xyphoid
If Stuff is your language, what are the model and controller written in?
TML
mm2000: So the target market for you next application is "theme and skin developers"?
mm2000
eml: Yes, i have noticed smarty, just want to get some ideas.
TML
Xyphoid: heh
Stormchaser
mm2000: Why do yoou want to invent 'yet another language'? Isn't PHP enough?
TML
mm2000: Personally, I find it a waste of cycles to layer yet another language on top of your PHP
ks
how do I add newlines to text file ?
TML
ks: echo "\n";
ks: See php.net/language.types.string
ks
well '\n'.$stuff still shows as string
MarkL
'\n' != "\n"
TML
ks: See php.net/language.types.string
MarkL
You have to use "\n"
ks
\"objectId\":\"\"}}\n\n{\"node\":{\"
Zule
That's because single quotes aren't interpolated.
TML
ks: See php.net/language.types.string
ks
uuh
thanks
MarkL
TML: Do you have any links for reading about \n ?
Zule
Or, parsed.
TML
MarkL: Sure, see php.net/language.types.string
MarkL
TML: ;)
TML
=)
mm2000
TML: but its PHP only. And i find templates as a good way of separating logic data from data in the browser. Also, there is a perfect solution for designers to do what they are good at, and for me to do what i am good at.
Rahewo
hello
how i can select the empty cloumb
mm2000
Dont want to arguing about the badness/goodness of using templates, just want an advice of an intresting engiene
Zule
mm2000: How about something like this? http://smarty.php.net/
MarkL
Rahewo: cloumb ?
Zule
Rahewo: Your question made no sense. What column?
TML
mm2000: If your designers find <?php echo $foo;?> from {{foo}} to be too difficult a transition, I suggest you hire better designers
Rahewo
select id from form where fid='506' and msg is not null
what is error
mm2000
Zule: Yes, i have heard about smarty, i shall check it up.
TML
As for "it's PHP only", I've yet to see a real templating language that ISN'T tied to its underlying language
Rahewo
why that isnt work1ng
