Warning: main(../dbconfig/ibls.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /srv/www/htdocs/addMachine.php on line 6" why? the file it is trying to include is 755 :S
also: undefined function session_start() ???
how do i fix this?
vhuren
Capn_Refsmmat: you sure?
foo
itrebal, colder: Hmm, now I'm just trying to up the quality. Kind of sucks right now- http://notix.ath.cx:81/tfm/feed/image.php?text=test
colder
foo, where is the code again ?
Capn_Refsmmat
vhuren: I think so
vhuren
colder: yes non numerical
Capn_Refsmmat
vhuren: http://us2.php.net/manual/en/function.key.php
foo

Capn_Refsmmat
foo: you may want to make it PNG rather than JPEG so you don't lose quality
colder
foo, try to use imagecreatetruecolor()
itrebal
foo: http://transmissionfm.com/ that yours?
foo
Capn_Refsmmat: hm, alright.
itrebal: I didn't design that, I'm just doing some work for them.
itrebal
foo: ok
foo
itrebal: Heard of it? It's new
colder
foo, well no, just specify the quality
foo
ahh, I replaced imagepng at the end ... instead of imagejpeg ... quality is WAY better. refresh
p_mash
This is where we need to be ... NOT firefoc users need not bother ;-)))) http://www.georgenava.com/applauncher.php
colder
foo, you could have set the jpeg quality.
foo
colder: PNG is nicer, unless there are known compatibility issues
itrebal
foo: no, i havn't but they have a spiffy layout
but *crap* music
foo
itrebal: yeah. crap music? haha. Don't like the stream?
colder
foo, your choice, FYI, it would have been imagejpeg($im, '', 100);
foo
colder: hmm, I see. I think png's are the way to go nowadays.
colder
yep
hallvar
PDO::prepare(), does that keep compiled queries between multiple script executions?
blipp
hey has anyone here writtin (or kno of) a script to get yahoo webrank?
written
stevarino
OT: what do clients expect in a programming portfolio? anyone have an example?
i'm referring to freelance jobs
foo
stevarino: uh, good PHP work? Big sites?
I don't understand your question...

stevarino
foo: lol i'm not sure what i even mean.. i'm looking at freelance offers that are asking for portfolios
foo
stevarino: Just show sites you've done. Reputable stuff. Anything ... some backend work you've done .. I think you're overcomplicating this. hmm
stevarino
lol maybe
sesstreets
Hi!
stevarino
hey sesstreets
sesstreets
Man this is hard stuff...
Who knew that mysql + php is hard if you've NEVER DONE IT BEFORE!
Capn_Refsmmat
It's a lot better if you find a good book
sesstreets
I bought sams ebook
Capn_Refsmmat
link?
stevarino
i would just recommend pouring over php.net/mysql_query and related
Viflux
I don't recommend a PHP book.
sesstreets
Viflux
stevarino: I agree. Everything you need is on the net...and there is a noticeable lack of quality PHP books.
zobi1
I have a php4 to php5 migration issue. "foreach($_POST as $key=>$value)" returns the first element in php5, which is the Submit button, but in php4 it doesn't return the Submit button, it returns the form input field. Any suggestions?
Capn_Refsmmat
unfortunately, the book I got assumed register_globals was on
sesstreets
Im just lookin for a good starter
Php is the first computer language I learned, and I only learned how to use it about 3 weeks ago while messing with wordpress.
thorsten
i want a certain input to get the focus, when the pages is shown
Viflux
zobi1: If you're using foreach() why do you care about the order?
Capn_Refsmmat
zobi1: sort the array first?
Viflux
thorsten: That's a JS thing.
CryWolf
thorsten: javascript. ask in #web
thorsten
thanks
stevarino
zobi1: this can also be fixed by not giving the submit button a name attribute
Viflux
sesstreets: Your best bet for learning is to just start coding. Find some good PHP forums (I recommend Sitepoint) and when you're really stuck turn to IRC.
zobi1
Viflux: it's not so much the order. the function goes through all the elements of the list except for the submit button in php4. In php5 submit button is included, which is breaking the code.
stevarino
http://orlando.craigslist.org/art/143926013.html <- looks like a fun job... maybe i should apply
sesstreets
ME FIRST
Viflux
zobi1: So give your submit button a name, and then put an if() in the foreach() that checks for the submit, if it's the submit, just do 'continue;'
sesstreets
30k damn
stevarino
zobi1: to me that sounds wrong.. php shouldn't care what its passed, whether a submit button or textarea
bob0908
anyone know how to create a unique 32 char id?
sesstreets
md5
Capn_Refsmmat
bob0908: many ways
stevarino
sesstreets: you in with me ;)
sesstreets
Hell yes
I learn php in 6 hours for 30k a month
stevarino
haha
Capn_Refsmmat
bob0908: md5(microtime()) works nicely, you can make an array of chars as well
Silliman
isent md5 32 chars+
Capn_Refsmmat
yes
stevarino
i'm thinking they want ssh and ecommerce widgets too
sesstreets
I learn those too
32K DUDE
stevarino
Silliman: md5 is exactly 32
bob0908
Capn_Refsmmat: ty
Silliman
caffinated, isent md5(uniqid(rand(), true)); better?
sesstreets
md5 is 32 chars?
zobi1
stevarino: you might be right. I am having trouble diagnosing the problem. The only thing I am sure of is that there is a behaviour difference in "foreach"
sesstreets
md5 based on microtime is actually better
stevarino
zobi1: can you post the code? i'm somewhat curious now :)
Silliman
stevarino, my shift botten is a bit buggy
Viflux
zobi1: It's not foreach() that's different, I guarantee it.
stevarino: This is the best thing I've ever seen in a job posting...."Must consider yourself elite"
stevarino
Viflux: i honestly just want to meet this guy
he seems awesome
(or she)
Viflux
stevarino: Sounds like an immigrant looking to make a quick buck after hearing tales of fortunes online.
And yes, I stereotype.
stevarino
craigslist has some amazing job postings http://orlando.craigslist.org/art/145837995.html
sesstreets
I wonder what php6 is gonna be like
Viflux
I have an amazing job already :)
stevarino
Viflux: true, i don't mind being part of a pyramid scheme as long as i'm not part of the support
sesstreets
It just sounds badass
stevarino
Viflux: it must be lonely on that pedastal
sesstreets
Yeha
Viflux
lol
sesstreets
so many young boys all around you
Viflux
It's a friendly office :)
sesstreets
lol
stevarino
Viflux: but do you work with bikini models for 30k a months!?!
Viflux
stevarino: Nahj
stevarino
Viflux: then i ask... how do you sleep at night, knowing that someone else might get that job
bob0908
Capn_Refsmmat: md5(microtime()) is perfect, thanks man
Tuxist
hi
Capn_Refsmmat
bob0908: welcome
Tuxist
i have probleme with php form script
<? echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?>\n" ?>

stevarino
should i feel guilty using yahoo's great apis on the backend with google maps on the frontend?
TodoInTX
I got a weird error when trying to access a phpMyAdmin page that uses the sql_query= variable. The sql.php page gets sent to the browser but, it looks like it has no data in it. Since there is no mime type header apparently the browser doesn't know what to do with it so it prompts for what to do with it. a text based browser gets the error "Error reading from socket"
Rhasta
lol Tux_Paranoid
* Tuxist even
Tuxist
i get a failure message on line 27
CryWolf
Tuxist: what is the exact error message?
Silliman
Tuxist, you only need session_start() once
Rhasta
you would get one earlier if you didnt have the @ in front of session_start the first time
Tuxist
unexpected T_VARIABLE
stevarino
Tuxist: missing semicolon too
CryWolf
that's because you're missing a ; on line 26.
TodoInTX
other php pages seem to render fine, and the mysql client libs seem to be ok.
CryWolf
TodoInTX: you should ask that in #phpmyadmin
TodoInTX
ah... didn't know there was that channel. Thanks.
Tuxist
http://pastebin.com/636574
unexpected '} on line 36 ?
stevarino
Tuxist: semicolon again
Tuxist: if you don't understand the error, look up a line and make sure theres a semicolon
Tuxist
elseif (isset($i386;)) ?
stevarino
Tuxist: actually missing a closing paren
line 35... you don't close parse_and_list, and then you need a semicolon
