(Action) sharpens claws
itrebal
guys, thanks for the help - going to flex-old fixed it
kuja
TML: Apparently mbstring uses Oniguruma
adamc
is there a way to get the output from stderr when executing something with exec of system?
kuja
adamc: command 2>&1
2 being stderr, redirected 1 (stdout)
mattmcc
adamc: Use popen or proc_open instead, and you can retrieve stderr separately from stdout.
adamc
thanks mattmcc
kuja
Or that, if you need it separately :)
adamc
kuja: i can't use the method because i'm reading something else from stdout
but thanks

myconid
is $_POST readonly?
kuja
No
HolyGoat
myconid: no
S^Gerbitz
okay people, I know im doing this all wrong, so please dont laugh too hard, on this source: http://pastebin.com/553371 I get this error: Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/addicted/public_html/venue_review_karaoke.php on line 79
myconid
S^Gerbitz: do some error checking
S^Gerbitz
myconid - My question is how to referce to tables
kuja
S^Gerbitz: Whatever you're passing into mysql_fetch_array() is not a valid result resource.
adamc
S^Gerbitz: thats the right way to access the tables but your query might be returning nothing
kuja
So, most likely the result of a mysql_query() that you pass into mysql_fetch_array() is invalid. You might want to use mysql_error()
adamc
so... like myconid said earlier, do some error checking
itrebal
gah.
myconid
fetching before checking numrows is pretty bad idea
HolyGoat
S^Gerbitz: That is also a very insecure way of querying.
myconid: I do it often.
S^Gerbitz
I uncommented the second #
//echo mysql_error();
and I still get the same errors
adamc
HolyGoat: thats probably because you are certain your query will return a result
HolyGoat
adamc: I don't see how that has a lot to do with mysql_num_rows()
Oh you just want to catch if there are any records at all?
adamc
HolyGoat: yea
HolyGoat
In that case it's useful, sure.
S^Gerbitz
Can anyone see the error?
Stormchaser
HolyGoat: Do you still work in PHP?

S^Gerbitz
Table 'addicted_db.Karoake_Days' doesn't exist
lol ;)
HolyGoat
Stormchaser: sometimes
Stormchaser
HolyGoat: What do you use most? Java?
itrebal
where are apache2's logs kept on debian?
mattmcc
itrebal: /var/log, where else would they go? :)
Stormchaser
itrebal: /var/logs/apache2
s/logs/log
HolyGoat
a combination of perl, php, java and craploads of xslt
Stormchaser
haha
adamc
i thought apache keepes some logs in /usr/local/apache2/logs?
itrebal
mattmcc: 2 days ago i had slackware as my server, and were in /usr/local/apache2/logs/
mattmcc
adamc: /usr/local would indicate a package not installed by the distro, but by the administrator.
HolyGoat
Stormchaser: but it's all going to be replaced throughout this year
Stormchaser
HolyGoat: Heh... Now I have SOAP on my back... AGAIN :/
adamc
oh....
mattmcc
Although it wouldn't surprise me if Slackware did that anyway.
Few distros follow the FHS to the degree Debian does.
HolyGoat
Stormchaser: I hate xslt so much, it's repulsive
Stormchaser
HolyGoat: Believe me, that I can imagine :)
aidan
I love it
Stormchaser
I was *HOPING*, that I wil never, *EVER* see SOAP again
HolyGoat
it's the dumbest excuse for a language I've ever seen
aidan
I'm struggling with xsl-fo atm
HolyGoat: why?
HolyGoat
aidan: it's too minimalistic, you can't even create an incrementing counter in a simple way
mattmcc
HolyGoat: The logical result of someone saying "I know! Let's write a declarative language using XML!"
HolyGoat
mattmcc: Heh indeed.
aidan
HolyGoat: right, xsl 1 is pretty sh*t . Having to make a recursive template just to increment a variable is pretty stupid.
HolyGoat: xsl 2 has all those features
HolyGoat
I have a book that states "now non programmers can transform documents too!". Right. As if non-programmers can figure it out.
aidan
I'm not sure why they made XSL a functional language either
mattmcc
Yeah, I love it when people say they use XSLT for templates so that their designers can modify them.
HolyGoat
Heh yes, I feel sorry for those designers.
TML
aidan: Look at the list of names on the WG and it becomes significantly less mysterious
aidan
BUT, still, I like it. I've been feeding myself using it for the last 2 years.
HolyGoat
Most things can probably done quicker and cleaner in a programming language with a dom/sax parser
TML
aidan: It's like a "Who's who" of functional language acolytes
aidan
TML: hah
HolyGoat: well, actually I tried that first
It was quite effective for small documents
TML
I like most of what I see in Kid
Stormchaser
(Action) just hopes to become cartoonist, so he would forget the mind-killing protocols :)
TML
Except for the error reporting
Stormchaser: You didn't answer my question(s).
mattmcc
Stormchaser: Careful, you may be mind killed anyway for being a cartoonist.
Stormchaser
(Action) looks up
TML
Stormchaser: Have any work you'd be willing to show me? And do have any interest in collaboration?
mattmcc
Stormchaser: Just remember to only draw cartoons that conform with everybody else's beliefs.
Stormchaser
TML: Just a sec...
HolyGoat
I wonder if anyone ever attempted to create an IDE for XSL (beyond syntax highlighting and unleashing some xpath stuff on the source document, that is)
TML
HolyGoat: Sure
HolyGoat: Altova
mattmcc
HolyGoat: ActiveState has a Visual XSLT thingy. Pretty sure there are others.
aidan
HolyGoat: I use Oxygen
HolyGoat
Yeah but even with altova xmlspy you have to manually type in most of the xsl, as far as I've experienced it
TML
Personally, when trapped on win32, I find xmlshell so handy that I don't mind shilling for them here.
So, consider them shilled. :)
HolyGoat
mattmcc: like, not Komodo?
aidan
be back soon
mattmcc
HolyGoat: Yeah, it's an addon for VS.NET.
Stormchaser
TML: http://storm.homeunix.org/misc/comics/duhci1_1.jpg , duhci1_2.jpg , duhci2_1.jpg , duhci2_2.jpg , duhci2_3.jpg
HolyGoat
mattmcc: Aha. Interesting. I might order that at work.
malmen
how can i see if one array is empty?
mattmcc
http://php.net/empty
TML
malmen: Check its count
winmutt
anyone use quanta in here?
Stormchaser
no.
winmutt: #quanta
winmutt
dont lie
HolyGoat
heh
malmen
tks
HolyGoat
quanta.. brr
winmutt
there is like one guy in there storm
quanta is great
quanta uber alles
Stormchaser
quanta *would be* okay, if it wouldn't be that bloated.
winmutt
i will agree with that
HolyGoat
"click on this button if you want me to create some simple form tags for you"
winmutt
one heck of a mem hog
arcannon
ZDE.
TML
Stormchaser: pm?
jnoon
anyone know why in b2evolution im logged in as a user i created with perms (or even admin), but I dont see anywhere that says Post? i know this is a dumb ass question but i seriously cant figure this thing ou
winmutt
zde?
jnoon
t
Stormchaser
TML: Sure.
winmutt
HolyGoat: ya i dont use it for html
HolyGoat
(Action) uses jedit at home nowadays, vim at work
and eclipse for everything java
arcannon
ZDE, Zend...
winmutt
gah coding in vim is hateful
adamc
i love vim
what else is good to use?
HolyGoat
we don't have much of a choice at work, only shell access, so vim is the best I can get
adamc
what linux ide is there to use?
HolyGoat
adamc: zend ide runs on linux
arcannon
adamc: Zend Studio will work in linux.
HolyGoat
so does jedit
adamc
hrm....
HolyGoat
but jedit is an advanced text editor, not an ide
netcatc_
adamc, Zend is better to me
mattmcc
Which is fine, IDEs are overrated.
winmutt
does zde support scp/sftp?
mattmcc
Yes.
arcannon
winmutt: yes.
adamc
actually... probably prefer to use a text editor anyways
itrebal
(Action) is irritated
adamc
but i need one that can do highlighting for C/C++ and PHP like vim does
winmutt
arcannon: ever use quanta? any kind of comparrison
HolyGoat
Yeah. Although Eclipse is nice, so you don't have to deal with all kinds of XML configuration files
Zyclops
do any text editors actually support heredoc?
myconid
Anyone who doesnt use an IDE is wasting time.
mattmcc
adamc: Virtually any decent editor can do that.
HolyGoat
(Action) loves Eclipse
mattmcc
myconid: Bullsh*t.
winmutt
