Could someone please help me with this tnsping question?
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32449119/tnsping-not-working-for-serverport-sid-format
Djelibeybi
Guddu_: http://www.oracledistilled.com/oracle-database/oracle-net/using-easy-connect-ezconnect-naming-method-to-connect-to-oracle-databases/
Guddu_
Djelibeybi, Thanks for your response. I opened sqlnet.ora on this server and it has this
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=(TNSNAMES,ONAMES)
Djelibeybi
Guddu_: note that ezconnect format is not TNS
so it's not surprising that it doesn't work with tnsping. :)
Note that you probably need the FQDN for your ezconnect string, so it'll be //server.domain.com:1531/full.service.id
Guddu_
Djelibeybi, I have seen this format working with tnsping on another machine though
I am so confsued
Djelibeybi
Guddu_: you need to get it correct
And use the FQDN and Service ID, not hostname and SID
Sorry, I mean the DB name
For clairity, it's username/password@//fully-qualified-domain-name:port/global-db-name
Guddu_
Djelibeybi, I have my FQDN
How can i find my global-db-name
Djelibeybi
Dunno
You'd have to check the database listener

Guddu_
Djelibeybi, WHat they have in tnsnames.ora is not the global-db-name?
Djelibeybi
No, that's usually the SID not the global DB name
The global DB name usually looks like an FQDN
Guddu_
Djelibeybi, So once i have it tnsnames will work?
Djelibeybi
tnsping?
Guddu_
tnsping
yes Djelibeybi
Djelibeybi
Guddu_: you need EZCONNECT in sqlnet.ora
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
Guddu_
Thanks Djelibeybi I will give it a try as soon as the DBA Team wakes up
Djelibeybi
Just tested on one of my systems and it works fine
$ lsnrctl status
Will show the global-db-name under one of the "Service" entries
The instance name is the SID
Guddu_: seems to work with the SID as well
Guddu_: so, //fqdn:port/sid works fine for me too
Guddu_
Thanks Djelibeybi So adding EZCONNECT is the key
Thanks again for your help. Will try it out and report the findings
Djelibeybi
Guddu_: makes sense, given that it's an EZCONNECT string.

Hi guys i am using oracle. I am getting an error ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows http://kopy.io/keUhV line 43 which i am really confused because isn't a for loop might to go through one by one? unless they is something i am missing please help, i have been on this for 2 hour
i know i am might to get more than 1 results for that query in the client_cursor which is why i then used the for loop
