Hello. I changed what I think is my RMAN destination.. https://bpaste.net/show/f1b1ce7db3e5
but when I run a backup, it still puts it in /u02/oracle_flash_recovery_area/ORCL/backupset/
petteja
allocate channel c1 device type disk format '/where/you/want/%U'
you specify that in your backup script
jmacdonald
the fact taht i already set it doesn't matter?
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/rman/%F';
i mean, i belive you :) just trying to understnad
petteja
that is just the controlfile-backup
jmacdonald
aye. i see that now.
DAMN YOU BURLESON!
i talked to an oracle admin once that wrote a script for his browser that removes all Burleson consulting pages from his google search results :)
petteja
lol
you can probably also use CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/where/you/want/%U'
instead of allocating channel in your backup script
jmacdonald
thanks.
one more question %U what is that.. and where would i find more of them for formatting
ha... CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'rman/%U' MAXPIECESIZE 8 G;
notice the missing slash. there' smy issue.

tks.
your help is much appreciated.

petteja
you're welcome. good luck, backup/recovery is probably the most important things to learn
jmacdonald
I have a receipt for $26,000 that proves that.
had to pay for data recovery in a previous life.
petteja
ouch, i see
jmacdonald
Totally un-oracle related. but yeah. Good times.
petteja
yeah
jmacdonald
oh sweet bliss. rman going to NFS via dNFS. my local storage is sooo happy now.
I'd love to pester you again about dNFS. I ran the command to enable it, but if i grep for "Oracle Direct NFS" in my alert log, i get no matches.
to enable it i did this: cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
make -f ins_rdbms.mk dnfs_on
petteja
cool, never tried it
jmacdonald
word.
petteja
i don't use nfs much
