after installing hamachi and restarting my computer, I can't connect any more through SQLDeveloper, my listener.ora file is http://paste2.org/p/912154.. does that look right?
RJarett
thats pretty funny
though hamachi works fine for me
do a route print and pastebin it
and are you sure you want to specify just the hostname for your box? nslookup oracevm whats returned?
hyphenex
you mean traceroute?? I'm very new with Oracle, I'm ssh'd into that box through hamachi
RJarett
it has nothing to do with oracle.
this is networking 101
hyphenex
lol, no, but
RJarett
type route
press enter
pastebin it
and then nslookup oraclevm
and then cat /etc/hosts
pastebin it.

'sqlplus' on the machine that's running oracle should not bring up ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27121: unable to determine size of shared memory segment' should it?
RJarett
are you sure you set your environment? aka ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID?
hyphenex
yep /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
& XE
RJarett
when you sqlplus, do you do it with a connect string or what?
hyphenex
no I didn't
RJarett
ok so your tnsnames.ora isnt used at all
and you are doing this as the oracle user: sqlplus / as sysdba ?
to try to attach directly
hyphenex
fair enough, ignore me.. so the problem is with SQLDeveloper then
RJarett
paste the info i told you if you want help
cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
ls -l oracle
hyphenex
wait
my bad
my problem ended up being it changed IP addresses *slaps forhead*
and I needed to make that change in SQLDeveloper
sorry for wasting your time

homebrewcider
is this the right place for oracle vm virtual box?
ganderson
homebrewcider: this is just a general oracle channel...ya got a question? :o
homebrewcider
yes, trying to use a webcam while in an Xp oracle vm session
can't get it to work
will work no probs in a full XP session, but under VM no way
ganderson
can you clarify what you mean by an 'Oracle VM Session'? If you need help with VM stuff, might wanna check out another channel. This chan's more focused on Oracle, the DB software
homebrewcider
ok
cheers
milan
how do i get the execution plan from a running sql statement?
ganderson
milan: this is what I found on google --> http://oracle-online-help.blogspot.com/2006/12/execution-plan-of-running-sql-statement.html
as for my knowledge of it, I'd open a new sqlplus session, and do an 'explain plan for queryHere' then check the output via the DBMS_XPLAN package
milan: iirc, after you do that explain plan for ...., to view it do a: SELECT * FROM table(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY) or something like that
dsdel
wtf.. oracle... 'set environmental variable oracle_unqname'
very delicios on windows with services...
and even if set it doesn't work
i'm thinking about opening a very very flaming SR
ganderson
dsdel: wait, what?
milan
ganderson: that link has what i needed, thanks
dsdel
ganderson: the whole dbcontrol is just trash again... it tells me to set environmental variables which I can't set globally cause of services
if you take a closer look you find out that this error message comes up cause another error message isn't handled correctly...
so you pass through error by error and just don't even understand why oracle can do such worse coding...
ganderson
heh
Ramen
my application is getting a ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified... but I can connect though sqlplus and sql developer. any ideas?
thats from my application
TheBonsai
maybe it uses another client? TNS_ADMIN set? etc etc, the usual suspects
a database domain, maybe?
usn_work
as a side effect of hunting down a bug, my DB is creating tons of trace files now. How can I find out which trace event is causing them?
BLZbubba
if i am doing a big imp, what is a good place to look to debug this error: ORA-12552: TNS:operation was interrupted
