What will be the easiest way to copy a schama, with all its tables and format but without it's data? to the same db, just for testing purposes? ie. Schema1 == Schema2, only without the data
DiscordianUK: hey, just missed my question on how to copy a schema without it's data to a test schema, on the same db
without exp/imp, preferably
usn_work
vmnew, use export / import
preferably datapump, means impdp and expdp
vmnew
usn_work: thanks

A bit OT: I want to create a jdbc "remote server" from a Sybase IQ server to Oracle 11g. I can't find how to do it, since the Wizard grays out the jdbc option, and the docs are rather stubborn on that
Xgc
Which wizard?
hali
sybase iq *shrug*
we're migrating all our sybase clients to oracle
with some luck only one left
i migrated the db for one of englands biggest investment banks from sybase to oracle the other weekend
for a new issue system
fixed income
bla bla
they love it, fair bit faster on same kit
dddh
usn_work: do you have odbc installed?
usn_work: or jdbc, do not remember
Trengo
hali windows?
mgolisch
hm
how do i edit files in an asm instance?
for example spfiles etc
EM? or how do i do it?
hali
Trengo: solaris to solaris
mator
hali, what issue system they do use? is it open one or in-door written ?
Trengo
hali was it old? i thought sybase was no more?
hali
mator: issue as in issuing shares and bonds and stuff like that
a bookbuilding app, called IssueBook

hi
plz anybody to help me with xQuery
usn_work
dddh, I don't know how to install or not to install jdbc on a Sybase IQ box. I installed jConnect, the only thing I saw and that sounded right.
hali, the Sybase IQ is going to be evaluated for a reporting system, hopefully saving aggregation runs. Big promises by vendor, I want to check

hali
they usually try to flog it on m-series hardware
what are you running it on?
usn_work
The test environment is a x Series blade. later it might run on a p series. The DB is rather small, below 200GB
My boss wants to see if we can save efford with low sizes as well

if I do a select and a column is varchar .. how do I force the select to add a string to the end of it? example, row has "2010-06-09" and I want to force the select to append " 00:00:00"
geodbz
SELECT col || '00:00:00' as whateverYouWantToCallTheColumn FROM ...
rdg
thanks
Dormir
rdg: do you want the actual time, or just a static ' 00:00:00'?
hypno
I am playing with OCILIB. Is there some log file for Oracle where it logs errors, etc? something i could just "tail -f" so to speak, during development?
stede
hello again. :-) I declare "foo tabl1%ROWTYPE" ... now i want to use "SELECT ... INTO foo ..." do that work? I have to use the order behind SELECT like it's give from the definition of table1?

hi
anyone here good with designing databases? need an ER diagram looked at
just a simple concept that i am trying to improve
usn_work
don't ask to ask, just ask
show your stuff, if anybody knows something about it, he/she will tell you

wondering if my design for my db is right: http://imagebin.org/100609 basically, member:a user can be an artist. an artist can upload media, member:a media can be member:a photo, video, event. member:a user can leave comments, like the media and other things. i have this table also, so i can keep track of users actions
dballester
hi to all
or i am too old, or before, imp indexes=n posposed the index creation during import. I'am in 10gR2 ( 10.2.0.4 ) and even launching an import with indexes=n i can see in dba_indexes how indexes are created with stauts valid, this is normal?
_TPG
hi, does anyone know if there is any peoplesoft test/demo page ?

Hi, is it possible to create new functions in an Oracle database that is read-only access?
the new functions would be temporary

RJarett

Ramen

I found the answer there XD
Mikey--
Just need the reference grant
Ramen
i can't believe oracle reserved "id" as a key word.... it was my fav col name :(
drdimitri
Ramen: We have a lot of ID Columns here
Mikey--
I don't think ID is a reserved word, probably just syntax highlighting picking it up in your editor
I have a few ID columns as well
Toad highlights it
