after cloning from an open backup onto a different machine. same 10204 and OS. I'm applying the archive log from immediately after the backup for consistency. Oracle is still not able to recover the DB, says needs more recovery...
dsdel
archangle25: what recovery prompt have you used?
recover database until cancel?
archangle25
i run that but it always is asking for the next in sequence archive og
so whenever its done i then alter database open resetlogs and its always complaining about needing more recovery
dsdel
have you isseued CANCEL ? :D
recover database until cancel -> feed all archivelogs you want -> enter CANCEL
archangle25
sorry recover database using backup controlfile;
then i just use auto as all the archive logs are in place
ive done this before numeros times...
numerous
alert logs gives no indication of error
dsdel
so alertlog doesn't tell what needs to get recovered further?
archangle25
it does. but its not part of my backup set. before i start backup i get the 'CURRENT' SEQUENCE# from v$log; i then backup all tablespaces chkeck for current once i backup all tablespaces, then i i copy over all arc logs where seq# >= 'VALUE';

hi, how to create new empty table with identical structure as another table? create table X as select * from Y; will create not only table, but will put Y data into X, right?
hali
Reign1: where 1=2;
Reign1
hali: thanks

usn_work

hali

Can anyone tell me if when you use tcp.invited_nodes in a sqlnet.ora file, does it do anything to check for spoofed host names? For example a reverse DNS lookup?
mod_cure
using sqlplus, how to make the display result vertically ?
usn
mod_cure, don't understand your question
mod_cure
display result vertically
i want the results of a query to display vertically
usn
do the same as you would do anywhere else: Use hierachical queries
mod_cure
in mysql -> select * from table\G "\G" would display results verticaly
usn
sqlplus can't do that
mod_cure, why do you want to do that?
sqlplus isn't intended to be used by scripts or such I'd say
It's an end-user-tool
mod_cure
so i can read the results
hard to read
not using script
usn
all you can do is formatting the columns
LouisJB
hi, is there a generally considered best client tool for Oracle? If so is it Toad or something else?
usn
For DBA? For developers?

Does anyone know if you can take an existing running operating system (windows) and convert it to a virtual box?
TheBonsai
i don't know for VirtuaalBox, vmware has such a converter toolset
Rudemeister
test
LouisJB
usn: developers mainly with some dba stuff
usn
LouisJB, Toad is great, but very expensive. I'd try free Oracle SQL developer first, then maybe PL/SQL developer
hypno
elb0w: hmm. just dd of the slice/partition into an iso file? use the iso file as your boot image or vbox?
LouisJB
usn: ok, don't suppose anyone has tried navicat by chance?
usn
I did not, whats that?
