hello there
m trying to install oracle 11g

while executing /runfixup.sh
[: 845: true: unexpected operator
any 1
agent47
try only XE edition
oracle doesn't support ubuntu on full version
only a few of linux distro they support
check out at oracle site
bye
mgolisch
any idea why i seem to reach the process limit?
this never happend on the old db
i wonder whats so different in 11g
RJarett
well what are your settings?
mgolisch
like i get ora-12516 all the time
process param is set to 300 like on the old 10g db
its different apps accessing it, just wondering why ii never hit that limit on the old boxen
RJarett
what is your open cursors and processes setting?
mgolisch
both 300
RJarett
And whats your connection pooling?
You have to remember, EVERYTHING consumes a process
a connection to the db. the backend processes. every query

mgolisch
hm iam quite sure most stuff doenst use any pooling, its open connection, do stuff, close connection
mostly some webapps doing queries and executing plsql packages
RJarett
and... connections and tcp needs to time out
so its not immediately gone and able for reuse
mgolisch
and some people accessing it using odbc from access and the likes
just wonder why i never hit that limit on the old box with exact same settings and using the exact same apps accessing it
i just set it to 1000 so the people can continue to work, still would like to understand what causes this
RJarett
we cant magically know
debug your system
run a trace
mgolisch
seems to be one of the aspx webapps
ill look into that application i guess
RJarett
who knows if anything changed
or someone is doing more long running transactions. or if it really is releasing the ref cursors

I have a column storing date as a string (YYYY-MM-DD), and when I select it I concat on to the end " 00:00:00" to get hours/minutes/seconds.. but Oracle then translates it to DD-MMM-YY 00:00:00 .... I don't want that date format.. how do I stop oracle from doing that?
RJarett
check your datatypes.
and dont concat crap like that
is it storing it AS a string in varchar, or implicit conversion to date type?
rdg
turns out it's storing it properly and the data is there as DATETIME, but the QuantumDB plugin in Eclipse isn't showing it
so I just need a select to_char(time, 'format')
RJarett
select to_char(trunc(yourcolumname), 'YY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss') from yourtable
trunc removed the time portion or sets it to 00:00:00
rdg
how do I get a spool to not include the SQL statement that's running
I've got echo, termout, heading, and feedback set to off
RJarett
sqlplus -s user/pass@wherever
rdg
nice. thanks
RJarett
paypal@uglyduck.com
rdg
maybe if uglyduck.com didn't require flash
RJarett
maybe if you werent a dumbass who couldnt figure out sqlplus -? to look up what you needed to do ;)
lol
dsdel
RJarett: uglyduck - about me - is that you? :)
RJarett

dsdel
friendly face :)
RJarett
havent touched the site in years though
usually put new sessions and pics on facebook or modelmayhem

dsdel
mhm own site means a bit of work at days where the 'normal' work eats up most of the time
RJarett
yeah. covering the systems 24x7...
dsdel
and every evening/free hour without a call is like a present :D
RJarett
yep
since most of my photog is charity, i have no problem just up and leaving the office any time i get a call for something. screw work ;)
dsdel
hehe I have to stand up and leave everything when the office is ringing :D
and mostly the dumbness of people is the reason... :)
but as we are talking about leaving thhe office - time to do so!
have a nice day, later
RJarett
see ya
