folks, what does a session that's waiting on "library cache pin"?
changing cursors?
Reign1
hi, where to put my tnsnames.ora file so that TOra would take it? i got it in /etc/oracle on my gentoo, but this doesnt work on kubuntu
usn_work
put it in $TNS_ADMIN directory (just define one)

Reign1
mhm, just found that out, thanks
and put that where? into .bashrc?
usn_work
just make sure it's set when your client starts. However you want
Reign1
oki, thanks

hi
i try to use "em" via browser but i get a '500 internal server error' - although it worked few days ago :x where can i finde logfiles which refer to this error? at ORACLE_BASE/cfgtoolslogs/emca intallation logs are stored only
usn_work
try to restart it
first stop & start your browser ;)
but emctl stop dbconsole / emctl start dbconsole
should help, and te├Âll you where the logs are stored as well
stede
usn_work: i just called emctl start dbconsole before (at default i dont load it)
usn_work
but emctl stop dbconsole / emctl start dbconsoledid you restart your browser? All instances of it?
did you restart your browser? All instances of it?
this oc4j applet is a bi**h, you should know ;)
stede
no firefox instances ... emctl stoped, there are only 'oracle' instances and the listener ... now i will start emctl again ...
usn_work
the emctl start will tell you the location of its log
stede
yes .. in a second ;)
it takes some time
and which is the log i need to check?
emctl.log?
tail -f emctl.log tells me that that the agent is stoped (apr 30th) .. that is the only line
*confused*
i just started it
however no i can login and get no more 500-eroors
usn_work
reboot is good
this oc4j based EM console is hell on earth
regarding the log, can you copy/paste the output of the emctl start and emctl status dbconsole?
stede
usn_work: http://pastebin.com/Jgs4syWv
but now it works fine (as mentioned above, after restarting emctl+browser)
usn_work
Can' you see what's the newest file in /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/localhost.localdomain_rfmon/sysman/log ?
just to know where its logging?
stede
emagent.log or emoms.log
emoms.log -> many expections i don't understand ;)
exceptiosn
usn_work
this oc4j based EM console is hell on earth (II)
stede
*g*
but i can now (for now) use em :-) so i can take a look how to implement a job/schedule
usn_work
uh
Not interested in doing it with dbms_scheduler?
I'd prefer to konw how to handle jobs without this monster :)

hi
is there any way to show every column in separate row ?
every column with its content
i.e.
Col1
----
content
in sqlplus
?
usn_work
the tools you need are called "hierarchical queries"
look them up on the web, its a science for itself
stede
usn_work: i dont know anything .. therefore i just reading yet. i plan to copy(and modifie) a row from one table to another table in a very short timeinterval to simluate some hardware for a demo system

usn_work
maybe a PL/SQL loop is better - starting jobs has some overhead
stede
usn_work: yeah . but i will investigate the docs befor, i dont want to block the cpu with pauses ;) i need to copy/modify each 400ms
my typing is a litte bit laggy - sry for that
usn_work
there's a non blocking wait in oracle
dbms_lock.sleep Suspends the session for a given period of time
you can specify seconds in decimal fractions
stede
StHa
Hello. I've got a slight problem with the connection to a Oracle database
stede
usn_work: i'm back from lunch ... thanks :-)
StHa
Nevermind. it's solved
usn_work

usn_work: and how to control (start/stop) a procedure which is running in a endless-loop?!

Hello. Does a TNS:connect timeout occurred really mean the server is down or can it mean something else?
TheBonsai
you ate the cable?
usn_work
TheBonsai, don't sting ;)
Bonsai-Cactus
TheBonsai
SCNR :)
usn_work
stha, a timeout on network is a timeout. What reason can a ping timeout have?
StHa
usn_work, that's true. lol
usn_work
http://sites.google.com/site/embtdbo/wait-event-documentation/oracle-library-cache
what a cool page
RJarett
alot of 'data' not alot of information
usn_work
would be nice to know how to get the cursor identified that the pin/mutex contention is about
the session was easy, but then...?
RJarett
the sql tuning page looks interesting
i passed it onto my developers

guys, whats the problem with tora if it doesnt list database list, tho i exported oracle_home ld_lib_path and tns_admin, configured tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora and put in the right dirs
zasz
can you use dbms_redefinition to move a table to a new tablespace, while keeping the table available
Features of Online Table Redefinition
Online table redefinition enables you to:
Move a table or cluster to a different tablespace in the same schema
nvm =)
Reign1
anyone got idea why tora cant see tnsnames.ora list?
TheBonsai
Reign1: environment maybe
Reign1
TheBonsai: TNS_ADMIN is set correctly
same as LIB var and ORACLE_HOME
also got sqlnet.ora set next to tnsnames.ora
what else?
TheBonsai
so you can tnsping from the same environment tora runs?
Reign1
command not found
hm
TheBonsai: any sugestions?
DiscordianUK
It'll be in the oracle user's path
Reign1
tho sqlplus works
