Hello is there a complete guide for calling a report from a form menu using form builder 10g and report builder 10g?
SilSila
currently our db is 9iR2 we are planning to upgrade to 10gR2..our current primary tablespace size is 3GB and temp tablespace size 3GB and also we have some default tablespaces. but we are not touching that one. now....when i install 10g can i use the bigtablespace or i can use the old tradinational tablespace like 9i?
RJarett
use traditional
your database is tiny
it would fit on my cellphone
dont overcomplicate
plus you wont be changing which TS your data is in with an upgrade
SilSila
but old one is client/server now the new one will be web-enabling 3 tier....and it will be increasing
RJarett
and?
will it grow to 100gb or 1tb?
SilSila
RJarett: may be it be growing to 50 GB..
RJarett
whats your blocksize?
SilSila
RJarett: oops...iam new...i have never checked for blocksize...wait let me check...
RJarett
select value from v$parameter where name = 'db_block_size';

SilSila
8192
RJarett
ok so using a little math, whats your max file size?
SilSila
select name, value from v$parameter where name like 'max%';?
RJarett
no
i said use some math
SilSila
ok...currently max file size is 3GB in that now the free space is 1GB...daily 1MB increasing..
in that..we have only archive log...
we dont have auditing...
RJarett
tiny
SilSila
we dont have separate tablespace for each operation...
we are using only one default and 1 temp tablespace
RJarett
thats fine
you can add more than one datafile to a tablespace
SilSila
but we are expecting more space in the feature...while enabling all the 10g features
ofcourse the features which we need
and also our new system will be a web enabled one...
oracel db 10g/ oracel OAS 10gR2 in RHEL 4.8
RJarett
ahh
how soon before you upgrade to 11?
since 10 is unsupported for the most part
SilSila
yes..but the oracle application server (10.2.0.2)'s db is having some problems with 11g
RJarett
ahh
just add a few datafiles to your tablespace
let it grow
stop them from growing when they hit about 16GB/ea
if you use autoextend, use a large # like 256MB or 512MB
SilSila
ok...so what can be the max. tablespace size for 10g in RHEL 4.8?
RJarett
max tablespace? massive
max datafile? still massive
SilSila
no not for bigtablespace
RJarett
in the TB
SilSila
i am asking about a single traditional tablespace max size in 10g db in RHEL 4
RJarett
well smallfile its 32gb w/ 8k block size
with a 2 petabyte max db size
SilSila
ok...so i can create my new tablespace in 10g with 16GB according to my current tb size of 3GB?
RJarett
i wouldnt do that

SilSila
it will be more than enough...is it?
then?
RJarett
wasted space in backups
SilSila
oh...
so with 5 GB?
RJarett
make a new TS, add 4 datafiles of 1gb/ea set autoextend on each
with a next size of 256MB
more manageable datafile chunks even if this guy hits 50-60gb
dealing with bigfile is a pain really
SilSila
one simple and silly question..i am creating a tb with 1 gb and extent of 256MB...what will happen when the tb reaches 1GB...will it increase to 256MB i.e., 1280 MB ok ..after reaching to 1280 MB it increased to 1536 MB....then when it will stop?
RJarett
not extend ot 256
a next
not extent of i mean
SilSila
ok..next 256mb means what will happen when the tb reaches to 1GB?
RJarett
http://pastebin.com/cCyZ3iSS
itll look like that
you want to use auto seg space management
SilSila
so...after 1GB it will increase to 256MB is it...? it will grow upto 16GB am i correct?
RJarett
the extending datafiles will extend by 256MB every time they hit like 99% full and need more space
SilSila
yes...so it will keep growing up to 16GB?
RJarett
yes
and 16GBx4 should cover your needs
and if you ever thing youll get more data since you max those out, you add another DF
or another ts to put crap in
but that is a pretty tiny db
SilSila
RJarett: so keeping 4 diff.datafiles for a single tb is best instead of 1tb and 1datafile...is it?
is there any advantage by creating 4 datafiles for a single tablespace over 1tablespace and 1 datafile?
aqd
hi all!
is it possible to use something like :new.* and :old.* in oracle triggers?
RJarett
no one should ever use .*
aqd
i want to make backup of deleted rows and avoid specifying all columns....
RJarett
in any situation
aqd
ohh
but writing :old.column1, column2, etc is silly :P
all right i'll write all of it.... hmm
should make some tool to generate backup triggers
RJarett
yeah that would be fu*king stupid
because triggers are
aqd
oh
but i want to use triggers to avoid coding meaningless stuff (to the running code itself)
hmm all right regexp just solved my problem :P
