I have 2 tables with 2 columns that determine uniqueness. is there a way I can figure out what record is in one table and not the other?
rizzo
NOT EXISTS
Ramen
isnt' that the same as not in?
and it requires 1 col to be returned
for future ref.... (x,y) IN (select a,b ...) work O.o

oracle 9i has been trying to create this materialized view for more than 24 hours straight. im wondering if there was any way to predict an approx amount of time the operation was going to take

Hello is there a way that i can use a report i created using report builder in a form i created in form builder?
mephju
hi guys
select 1-nummer from BLOCK where NUMMER between 0.9 and 1.1;
this returns 0
but i can't get a value with select nummer from BLOCK where NUMMER=1;
RJarett
select 1.0 - nummer
try that
mephju
sorry for the inconveniences
my wlan reconnected
what can i do about it?
last time i checked 1 equaled 1
don't know why my oracle db doesn't think so
RJarett
1.0 * 10 != 1 * 10
in 11i i mean
its in the docs
has to do with number precision

mephju
i suppose it's been the same in 10g
my field nummer is defined as number(1,0)
it should only allow integers
melwtech35
hi guys, just wondering where is a good place to look for help with oracle SOAP API (web services, guess its more a soap query than oracle though)
mephju
RJarett, it would be really nice if you could point me somewhere
all i've read about number precision doesn't apply to me so far. so if you know this issue it would be really nice if you could show me a site or something

hi
in using php's oracle bindings (OCI8), is there an equivalent for mysql_escape_string?
or is any approach using 'manual' escaping of input variables highly unrecommended?
and should I just use prepared staments & variable binding?
usn_work
most times using bind variables is useful for performance
they are saving pare time
parse time
klaas111
so it's accepted policy to 'manually' create queries? in that case, what is the recommended way to escape? is replacing ' by '' sufficient?
usn_work
depends on what you do
dynamic SQL ist highly outlawed for DB admin's sight
prodcutnews
hi
is oracle xe express edition 10g is complete oracle
usn_work
prodcutnews, could you please de-blowfish your question?
prodcutnews
im using HP -AMD processor LAPTOP fed-up with CPU over heated burning sound and non-warning shutdown...im blaming this on XP which un-due services running all time and im using all oracle products 10g db server, developer suit etc etc .... i want to switch now to Ububtu over which i want to install oracle xe, i fear is oracle xe complete oracle or not ... does it has EM, rman and all etc
sorry for length explaination ...it do does explain all of me
SHIT with HP products dont buy them.....over heating CPU is dis-gusting ..wak wak
usn_work
Oracle XE is full Oracle, but not full Enterprise Edition, nor full Standard Edition
I'll send you a link with the features compared
http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/product-editions-066501.html
klaas111
I'm using a Oracle XE instance
I cannot see any databases however
is there such a concept in Oracle?
i.e. multiple schema's for one installation?
and where can I see that in the web interface?
or does XE come with only one schema by default?
so I should connect to localhost/XE by default?

Hello
Trengo
morning
kingping
Can I evaluate Oracle 11g for free ?
I have 10g Express Edition, but I'd like to test 11g.

g10k
hi
kingping
Because before 10.2.x I've had 10.1.x which doesn't use APEX for web.
s/web/web interface/
Trengo
kingping yes of course
kingping
Trengo: It's something like 30 days? I'm doubting I could study most of features.
g10k
Do you know howto trace/audit sql statement of single user ?
Trengo
kingping no there's no limit whatsoever
kingping
Trengo: Cool. Thanks for information, I'm gonna study it :]
g10k
do you know howto trace/audit sql statement of single user ?

hi, i see some fs when ls -l /dev/mapper/, how do i simply mount them? mount -o rw /fs /mountpoint ?
Trengo

hi all. I have two machines connected through a cross-over cable. Both network cards tell me that they are working at 1G. If I attempt to connect from one to the other by using sqlplus, it takes me around 15 seconds to establish the connection. I've doublechecked the tnsnames.ora file and looks ok. the speed between them looks good (ping requests tell me so). what would be the possible reasons for that ?
Trengo
Insanidade name resolution, add their ips to /etc/hosts see if that helps
flobian
Insanidade: add ip of interconnect and hostname-intern to /etc/hosts
Insanidade
Trengo you mean adding the name mapping of the server machine to /etc/hosts into client machine ?
Trengo
Insanidade both ips to both machines
Insanidade
Trengo flobian I'm gonna try that.
Trengo flobian shall I add even the server ip to the /etc/hosts in the server itself ?
Trengo
Insanidade what matters is the interconnect ip like flobian said
Insanidade
Trengo flobian I did not get what flobian meant by "ip of interconnect"
flobian
this is the "private" ip
Trengo
Insanidade the crossover NICs ips
Insanidade
this is one of the lines I have there:
10.10.100.242 servdb003
that is present in the /etc/hosts of the server machine
10.10.100.242 is the client machine
flobian
add the private ip eg. "192.168.99.242 servdb003-intern"
you can duplicate one tnsnames.ora entry with hostname servdb003-intern to test
Insanidade
how do I find that 192 like address ?
the only ip that ifconfig shows me is the one I printed above.
Trengo
Insanidade how do you ping them?
you said you can ping each other ok
how?
Insanidade
I ping them by name or Ip
Trengo
is that the crossover NIC?
Insanidade
from the client to the server: ping 10.10.100.226
226 is the server machine.
both machines were previously connected through a switch and those addresses were assigned to them.
then, I removed the switch from that scenario and made them connect directly through a cross over cable.
Trengo
ah
Insanidade
the network cards seem to have no problem with that. it's working fine.
Trengo
and both machines have both ips in hosts?
Insanidade
however, sqlplus attempts get too slow to establish the connection.
yeah. each of them have the ip of the other machine in their respective /etc/horsts file.
flobian
i suggest to take ips from another netzwork
for the interconnect
Trengo
Insanidade check /etc/nsswitch.conf see whats in hosts
Insanidade
in which machine? client or server ?
Trengo
both
Insanidade
in both files , the line for "hosts" has "hosts: files dns"
Trengo
dont know then
i still think its dns
maybe you need to have them in dns?...
Insanidade
I think dns is ok. I can resolve the addresses.
no matter if I use an ip or a name, the connection attempt goes really slow.
Trengo
but after that its fast
flobian
don't you need to add route for the ip to tke crosslink interface?
Insanidade
yeah. only the connection attempt is slow. once connected, commands go exactly as they should be
flobian not sure. where should I check that ?
flobian
traceroute to crosslink-ip
Insanidade
I can traceroute from both sides.
flobian
no. notice paket counter in ifconfig. does it really use interconnect?
Insanidade
flobian anh...how could I check if it uses interconnect ?
there are two lines in ifconfig eth0 for "packets"
flobian
RX packets:0 / TX packets:0 means it is not used
Insanidade
so it's being used.
RX packets:26807 / TX packets:17683
flobian
which ip is it? public or interconnect?
Insanidade
flobian a valid Ip inside our network.
not 192 like.
flobian
and the other interface?
Insanidade
both are like that.
client: 10.10.100.242/ server: 10.10.100.226
dsdel
n1, class c!
good to go for a nice broadcast!
Insanidade
yeah.
dsdel
Insanidade: so how many servers are inside the 10.10.100 subnet?
Insanidade
thousands. maybe billions.
Trengo
thats a private address...
dsdel
ok already read it that it's directly connected
Insanidade
so, any hints ?
dsdel
tried tnsping ?
Insanidade
yeah. good responde time.
dsdel
directly on the dbserver the initial sqlplus connection is fast?
your tns is configured using hostnames?
Insanidade
yes and yes.
dsdel
dig <local-hostname>/sco.com on both machines is fast?
Insanidade
a dba is changing some stuff here so I can't test it by now. I gotta wait a few minutes.
dsdel
if yes -> wireshark on the interface or try to find something out using strace
mastro
Can someone help me installing oracle on a Centos/RedHat 5? or give me some hint?
I tried yesterday and failed with this error: http://pastebin.com/T7mb4Mmz
now I just re-installed from scratch
Yesterday I followed this guide: http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_redhat.html
dsdel
mastro: checked http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/index.html already? (the required rpms)
mastro
I should mention I'm installing from x86_64
dsdel, yes but that's something I don't understand about it: do I need those SPECIFIC version? or any version of those packages is fine if it's for Centos 5?
dsdel
depends on the changes inside the versions
of the required pakages :) if something was removed which is oracle based on
mastro
dsdel, the guys from #centos/#rhel are telling me that the ABI/API inside the major versions are the same, so any version of any library inside Centos/Redhat 5 is the same
dsdel
but perhaps in a newer release there is a bug which leads to an error? :)
I don't think so for your situation currently cause you have 'undefined' functions
mastro
dsdel, the link you gave me speak of the Redhat "oracle version" 5 OR RedHat 4. nothing for RedHat 5, can I follow the guide for OEL 5?
dsdel
which indicates that there is missing something
mastro
dsdel, usually if you miss a library it say "missing library" not "undefined"
dsdel
don't even know if 10gr2 is supported by RHEL5 :D
Reign1
how to export data directly from 9i to 10g?
dsdel
mastro: recheck the rpm, that you have all installed - another howto is at: http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2InstallationOnRHEL5.php
Reign1: exp/imp and | ? :)
mastro
dsdel, hum... I had to add rhel-5 to the list of certified version of red hat (following the guide i gave you before)
Reign1
dsdel: true
:)
syntax example?
mastro
dsdel, it's strange, the last guide require you to install the gnome environment, isn't that a little strange on a server? and.. that's 32bit :)
dsdel
mastro: nah, oui :)
klaas111
Hi all
I started using Oracle XE today
the error messages when running SQL are absolutely generic
any tips on how to dig down into error messages?
for example, from the SQL Command window: ORA-00911: invalid character
I'd very much like to know which character and in which location is invalid
now I'm forced to manually remove half my statement, and try again
dsdel
so I would assume it aren't ascii characters :)
klaas111
that assumption is wrong...
when I'm adding a row using the "Object Browser" I'm getting error ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
nothing about what is going on under the hood that triggers this error
i'd like to know both the literal and the format string in this case

If I'm reporting against the ROLE_TABS_PRIVS view as SYS shouldn't I be able to see all table permissions granted to any role? For some reason when I look in OEM to verify my report is working correctly it's showing table permissions that arent shown in ROLE_TAB_PRIVS. Any ideas?
Errr, I meant ROLE_TAB_PRIVS, I had an extra 'S' in there the first time.
