hi
i have problem with jdeveloper, I added new resource ( oracle database ) and created ne xsql file , i want to bind tat file with resource with "connection" attrbute - when i deploy i get XML-25004: Could not acquire a database connection named: <connection_name>
dogmeat
for oracle 9i during install, i see a link phase, does that mean the db source code is on disk?
Trengo
no, it means a few bits are linked at install time
BigODBA
I am trying to find documentation on Oracle inventory.xml file entries. I need the TYPE and IDX value definitions......as in these values are preset environment specific or product specific....any documentation links and some guru would chime in ?
Trengo
i doubt it will be documented outside development
BigODBA
Trengo: so TYPE and IDX values in the inventory.xml are preset values? Or do they more or less enumerate various oracle home? How do these values apply per oracle home?
Trengo: pardon, I did not understand your response above
Trengo
BigODBA i suspect the file format wont be publicly documented
BigODBA
Trengo: you are 100% right....thats all I realized after 1hr of googling. Also adds to the argument, "Do not manually tweak the inventory.....always use the oui/runinstaller or clone.pl or some thing oracle provided"
Trengo
the format might change without notice

BigODBA
Trengo: that makes it little tricky to understand.......say it changed without version, it would between two versions of OUI. Then how does the central repository cope up with the different OUI used for different oracle homes? So at least the central inventory format should be stable
Trengo
:) its all in the code i suppose
BigODBA
nice way to look at them proprietary things........better than losing an hour to google. Not to mention all those ads on all those sites.....meaninglessly popping on my screen and I am by no means a buyer of any of them. Good for google! Wouldn't it be nice if google (the smarts it/they are) knew, I wasn't gonna buy any of those.
Trengo
amazing, i didnt get any of that
dogmeat
after a new install, and reboot, how do i restart oracle? i started the listener, but not necessarily the oralce process
im getting ORA-01034 errors, "Oracle not Available" error
Trengo
as oracle, run sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
when you get the prompt, run startup
dogmeat
I set ORACLE_SID=FOO, but initFOO.ora does not exist, how can this be created?
can i just copy the init.ora to this name?
after my initial install, i did not create a database
Trengo
create one then
dbca should help

Hi
How do we see the definition of a trigger i.e. triggerbody?
is there any command for that
is there any command to see the body of the trigger..?
visioconf
hola guy's
In fact i tried to restore my ORAC DB
I'm encountring ( the account is locked)
any ideas please :(
RJarett
visioconf: get on the local server, and sqlplus / as sysdba
and unlock the account
Xgc
knandan: SELECT * FROM all_source WHERE type = 'TRIGGER';
RJarett
or use dbms_metadata
but i didnt see the original question ;)

Xgc
He was just asking how to see the definition / source of a trigger in the system.
knandan
Thanks Xgc and RJarett ..i wanted to see the defn of a given trigger..
i used the followinjg command
select text from user_source where name like 'ZONE_TRIGGER';
RJarett
select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TRIGGER','MY_TRIGGER') from dual;
but the dbms_metadata proc and functions and can be extended to present it many ways
knandan
RJarett: thanks..i will try these commands too..
bye

hello all, i have a expiration date column in oracle 11 db... i was curious if i wanted to find out if todays date is not passed the expiration date... whats best to do it in, query side or code/java side. I'm not sure how to approach
dsdel
'what can be done through the database should be done through the database' :)
get current date (like SELECT TO_CHAR(CURRENT_DATE, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH:MI:SS') FROM dual;) and compare with > to expiration date
monk12
k hehe. thanks dsdel, ill check it out
Xgc
monk12: Dates are directly comparable. You don't need to convert.
monk12
yes i figured that out just now...
so i wanted to also put a is_expired true/false value in 1 query like "SELECT *, ( SYSDATE < EXPIRATION_DATE ) as is_expired FROM DB.ACTION_TOKEN WHERE SYSDATE < EXPIRATION_DATE" ... but that doesnt work, anyway to do something like that?
Xgc
monk12: SELECT tbl.*, CASE ... END AS derived_col_name FROM ...
monk12
cool thanks Xgc, ill check out CASE in oracle
Xgc
monk12: There are a few forms: You want ... SELECT ... CASE WHEN x < y THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS is_expired ...
monk12
hmmm i was trying it and i got an error saying "FROM keyword not found where expected"... my query is:
SELECT *, CASE WHEN (SYSDATE < EXPIRATION_DATE) THEN 'not_expired' ELSE 'expired' END as is,_expired FROM db.tablename .... it seems to work without the "*," but i'd like other columns as well. Some pages indicate getting other columns is valid i think. did i goof somewhere.
whoops is,expired
let me rerun hehe
same error.
so it works without the '*,' but id like to do this is 1 query... have that boolean and have the other columns.
Xgc
monk12: Did you see my example?
monk12: It's not legal (according to the SQL specification) to use * with other items in the select list. You must use a table prefix.
monk12
oh
yes i just compared yours to mine.
and realized that. thank you so much for pointing it out as well. ;)
works great now :)

Hi, I have a process that Oracle initiated and its taking 99% of CPU. The PID in the server is 6557, how can I see which user/session is issuing these statements that are taking my whole database?
I want to see which user has started the process 6557 in my server.
kaylee_work
ok, so this is probably a very stupid question... what scheme is the user_info table in?
emaia
hello
kaylee_work
hi
emaia
i need do change charset of a oracle 10g database
could help?
kaylee_work
over my head, sorry
prodcutnews
hi
any developer in the room ..
dsdel
ye but not oracle :>
steelnwool
I"m getting the "ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded" bug... I know how to fix it except I can't connect with sql plus because, that would use too many processes :)
tips?
apparently i can just edit the spfile , but it looks like its partially binary, so i don't wanna do that.
drdimitri
steelnwool editing an spfile will break it!
steelnwool
thought so. I left it alone.
teite
steelnwool: alter system set processes=1000 scope=spfile
steelnwool
teite: i'll do that once i can connect :)
teite
bounce ;)
steelnwool
?
teite
restart db ;)
steelnwool
yeah, working on that.
teite
you might need to increase session too
steelnwool
it doens't seem to want to shut down.
dbshut $ORACLE_HOME right?
teite
i mean sessions
single instance or rac?
steelnwool
single instance
teite
sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
sql> shutdown immediate
steelnwool
i can't connect via sql plus.
it won't let me.
it says max # of processes exceeded.
teite
hmm too bad ;)
windows or unix?
zetan
kill some of the applications hoggin your processes
steelnwool
unix
zetan: i did. :)
i could use "kill" and just kill all processes owned by oracle user.
will that trash my db,or should oracle be able to survive that ?
i guess its just like a power outage.
this isn't production btw.
zetan
<phew>
pull the plug
drdimitri
steelnwool np roduction?Restart the server
steelnwool
:) the machine has other production stuff on it tho.
postgres/mysql
ps aux|grep oracle|awk '{ print $2 }'|xargs kill -9
that should get them.
yup. deleted.
now to see if it starts iup.
teite
uhm
you could have killed the pmon process
only ;)
steelnwool
well, i didn't know that at time hehe.
odd. i restarted it and i get the max num of processes error right away.
teite
hmm maybe because the app is still trying to connect to the database?
steelnwool
newp. i killed the app server.
one sec. there might be another.
drdimitri
Hmm I never had so much problems killing an oracle instance ;)
steelnwool
oh I killed it fine :)
there, according to ps, its completly dead.
so i should be able to do dbstart $ORACLE_HOME, then connect via sql plus, immediatly.
teite
try to start it via sqlplus
and then startup mount
steelnwool
hahahha. hilarious.
when i run dbstart $ORACLE_HOME, the log file says "ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded"
meaning during startup its getting that error.
trying sqlplus now
i can't start it from sqlplus, cause i still can't connect with sql plus. is there a lock file somewhere or something?
teite
how do you start sqlplus?
steelnwool
sqlplus /nolog; then i give it my username/password.
teite
connect / as sysdba
eh try connect / as sysdba
drdimitri
use sqlplus / as sysdba and set your $ORACLE_SID bevor
steelnwool
sqlplus / as sysdba : asks for a username / password right off the bat.
drdimitri
is your user in the oradba group?
steelnwool
its in the "dba" group. i don' thave a oradba group on the system.
drdimitri
Oh sorry. ora_dba is on windows.
sjoos_
there might be a lock file in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
steelnwool
regardless as soon as i try to connect, i get told of a process limit. when there are zero processes running aside from bash
will check that.
teite
steelnwool: the connect via / does not use the listener
steelnwool
teite: that is probably true. problem still persists any way you sl ice it.
sjoos_
unless TWO_TASK is set....
teite
steelnwool: did you actually stop the database?
steelnwool
sjoos_: there are files in that dir, none are named lock.
teite: yes, i killed every single oracle process.
see avove.
teite
well you should start the database via startup mount
sjoos_
i'm at home now, have to log in to database server at work to check name of lockfile
steelnwool
teite: i can't start it up, because i can't connect via sql plus.
and i take it, startup mount has to be executed via sqlplus
sjoos_: lkORCL perhaps ?
teite
dbstart / dbshut is ment for init scripts
steelnwool
the contents of it are "DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE!" :)
sjoos_
yep, that's it
steelnwool
teite: I know. I don't understand the relevancy of that at the time tho.
sjoos_: just kill it and try to connect ?
heh, i'll rename it.
sjoos_
or just rename it
lol
steelnwool
I still get the max processes error.
biizare.
sjoos_
never got that error while starting....
what Operating System? what Oracle version?
steelnwool
i sholud mention my flashback recovery area is full, but tahts what i'm trying to connec tto fix.
11g or RHEL.
teite
steelnwool: just su to the oracle user
steelnwool
er s/or/on
teite: i am the oracle user.
teite
steelnwool: then try $ sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
sjoos_
su - oracle
teite
what happens?
steelnwool
sjoos_: , i understand how to su. don't worry.
teite: it asks me for a username.
so i give it sys
teite
nono
steelnwool
actually let me pastebin. one sec.
teite
did you set the env $ORACLE_SID?
steelnwool
yes. one sec.
sjoos_
it should say 'connected to an idle instance;
teite
and other oracle env like $ORACLE_HOME
steelnwool
yes.
