dballester
hi to all
anyone have a link or doc explaining the OCR internals? i must do a 'risky' movement and wanna know if i've a chance or i will break all
hali, Dormir, mator, teite, TheBonsai... long time... best regards from Bcn!
Dormir
hey dba
dballester
just in case, i put here what i've in mind, who knows if a clever mind will give me a tip: deleted a node in a 3-node RAC 'cause the previous addnode failed due lack of swap/RAM.
unfortunately, the rootdeletenode script is not able to take out the 3rd node from the ocr, the rest is well deleted ( crs stuff, binaries & company ) but if you do olsnodes, you see the 3 nodes list
my 'idea' is to export the OCR, erase de components ( lines ) refering the 3rd node, adecuate the info in the OCR export file
and do an import af this new file ( yers, i will save an original copy of the export , just in case :D )
anyone has played before with the export import of ocrconfig?
if i make an import it 'load' the new info or add/merge with the existent?

Need help. I can't get SQLPlus to let me create a table.

RJarett
read the docs
and dont have double spacing on lines
JSG
double spacing?
RJarett
well line 12...
JSG
Oh that was just to segment the fields from the constraints?
RJarett
switching yout float, integer to a real number datatype with precision and scalar

JSG
readability
I'm just learning oracle. and coudlnt find a good docs site
Can you point me to the proper syntax for adding a check and a primary key?
it seems to not like the primary key even though thats what i found online
RJarett
http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/SQL
JSG
You said to switch my float? How come?
RJarett
because i said so
what error are you getting creating that
JSG
Uhm, weird, no error now.
Wouldn't float or decimal be sufficient for storing a currency value?
Scorp1us
hi all, i want to write a trigger that will compare the current exising row value to a query, then insert a nother row if they are not equal. How can I do that?
Begin; IF :OLD.FILECOUNT != (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM FILES) THEN ...
RJarett
JSG: no
its a mega waste
why would you need that if you have number(10,2) ?
or 11,3 if it was gasoline ;)
JSG
Number can store a decimal?
RJarett
dude.. read the damn docs
JSG
Sorry. Just was surprised, it sounded like an integer data type when i saw a list of them
RJarett
did you read the docs?
JSG
I searched for some yah. Anyway.
Is there a way to check if the date is less than current date?
like is there a 'now' that returns current date
RJarett
what do you think?
if you read an intro to oracle book or webpage it would tell you
or if you looked at the scott example schema
JSG
yah, but all i can find is to_date(2010-04-28 12:00:00)
RJarett
yeah and even thats wrong
i call BS on this one

Hi all, im getting this error "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel" using cx_Oracle while doing stress testing..any idea how to fix this ?
KeiKurono
morning
nope
morning
hmm, or, well, almost lunch actually
KeiKurono
another long day for me..
dsdel
ha! I only have 8/9 hours today in front of me!
KeiKurono
seems a lot to me
stede
morning ... geuss what! i get it running!
mator
stede, get it running what?
stede
export TZ=EST (e.g.) before calling dbca would be good hint in the docs :x
a simple oracle install
it takes me "only" 7 days .. lol
mator
stede, this was easy - right ? :)
you need just to follow docs ...
stede
mator: NO! that dont work
is startet to follow docs at the beginning
several important enviromand variable which has to be set are not mentioned in the docs
like i typed above: TZ .. NLS_LANGUAGE
it dont work here without that variables
mostly causes abort/crashing dbca
mator
stede, btw, what oracle version you're installing and OS name-version ?
stede
11g .. starting with fedora (used a specific guid for that) .. tried oracle EL afterwards and no ist running on centOS
no = now
dsdel
stede: naturally they are mentioned - check the install guides
stede
some mentioned, but not all
dsdel
in the install guide, yes - cause not all are installation related
stede
the major ones are mentioned (licke ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_SID and so on)
dsdel
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/post_inst_task.htm#BJFBEHCD
stede
so ... so install is just coying the files ... and use dbca to create a DB isn't "install" ... absolutly logical :-D
dsdel
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b15658/admin_ora.htm#sthref96
a database is no app like a ftp client or ssh client - just install and ok
stede
i've never said that
and i dont expect that
dsdel
further, the oracle presets are working for 90% I would assume
stede
for me dbca throws exception about $TZ was not set
dsdel
but the important thing is that you got it running :)
stede
so i install the db with runInstaller and than before i call dbca is have to set that env-variable
indeed!
dsdel
stede: at my linux boxes, dbca does not throw exceptions even if tz isn't set
I've never set TZ heheh
stede
so you can be happy ;)
dsdel
ye and our customers :)
mator
stede, i don't have TZ defined on my fedora, but oracle installation and database creation went fine
stede
all that work .. and there is still a chance that we dont work with oracle at all .. hrhr .. but it's not my descision *g*
i'll be back later on - cya guys and thanks for ur help
dsdel
cya stede
stede
that was quick ;) one question: after installing can i delte the install files from /home/oracle/install/database (that is where run/installer is located at)?
mator
stede, yes
stede
ty
bye
mator
stede, make sure you don't delete oracle inventory
phimic
hi all
how can i get rid of failed requests
mator
phimic, jump back in time and make it successed ?
phimic
mator: my oracle monitoring checks v$shared_pool_reserved
one db instance has some request failures
usn_work
good CEDT morning
a quick question: Has somebody a 11gR2 x86_64 database installation on linux available? If yes, does there a directory $ORACLE_HOME/lib32 exist?
in older versions it did, but yesterday I installed 11gR2 64bit on linux from a SAP provided install package, and now I miss the 32bit libs. Just want to know if it changed in general
mator
usn_work, http://pastebin.org/191745
usn_work, should be my version is 11gR1 ?
usn_work
obviously it is
mator
can someone send me a patch R1 -> R2 ? :)
usn_work
download 11gR2 from technet and patch it
:)
phimic
usn_work: hi
usn_work
hi phimic
phimic
usn_work: i recreate a new repository for emctl but quiesence db takes long
usn_work
uh
skip it, and drop the objects in question manually -> query
it's a script from the web, tested it successfully
just don't know any more where it has been from
(Action) is out for lunch
abcfer
hi
what is "Total parses" in DB Console ?
I have no hard parses, but lots of "Total Parses"
is it possible to eliminate them ?
usn_work
parses happen when SQL ist issued against the DB
just don't use SQL or use only one query for all work
gehdan
you forgot to type the <ironic>-tags :)
usn_work
<ironic> Oh, really?</ironic>
:)
gehdan
;)
usn_work
abcfer, oracle distincts between hard parses and some falvours of soft parses. Soft parses are what you want
no way to avoid handling queries
abcfer
I have prepareds in JDBC
and one prepared is executed many times
with differend variables
gehdan
abcfer, then you still get soft parses
abcfer
but my DB Console shows a lot of "TOTAL PARSES"
yep
usn_work
this is a hard parse I'd daresay
gehdan
or "soft soft parses"
abcfer
I'd like to eliminate any parses =)
even soft soft
yep
even session_cached_cursor
usn_work
then don't send SQL AGAINST THE DB
abcfer
is it possible to go further ?
usn_work
reduce loop iterations maybe
abcfer
just wondering
gehdan
ok, again
abcfer
is it ok that Total Parses is high
on db console
usn_work
do less, maybe collecting more information within one statement
gehdan
JDBC prepared statements are the way to go
abcfer
the statement is insert .. values
single-line
gehdan
no hard-parses (exept the first time the query hits the db)
abcfer
prepared once and reused
gehdan
soft parses are needed,
abcfer
I have 10k inserts per second
is it a good number ?
4 x 15k SCSI raid0
my iostat doesn't show much
CPU is not loaded to top either
I'm trying to find the bottleneck
gehdan
one way to get rid of the parses at all and still use SQL might be to "fix" oracles handling of queries by just shoving them to /dev/null
;)
usn_work
why do you worry then?
abcfer
I can't find the bottleneck
io has about 2 MB/s
gehdan
do you have a bottelneck? name it?
abcfer
I can't find it
usn_work
how do you feel it
abcfer
cpu is not loaded 100%
io too
memory too
=)
usn_work
talk less, read more
gehdan
:)
abcfer
stupid answer
usn_work
how do you feel a performance issue?
abcfer
may I comment
=)
I have only 10k inserts per second
that's a small number
on the hardware
isn't that obvious ?
usn_work
is the load distributed over all CPUs?
abcfer
yes
usn_work
its not obvious, since we are no clairvoyants
abcfer
about 20% each CPU
according to top
usn_work
do you have wait events in the DB?
