If I defer an optional archive log destination that ships logs to a dataguard standby db, when I reenable the destination will it automatically ship any logs that were missed while it was deferred? I think the answer is yes but want to confirm.
assume that all logs are still in the primary's archivelog directory.

chuckh1958: yes it will, the standby will request all the logs missing

Thanks. Using the FAL process right?

how do I import a db from MySQL to Oracle xe?
RJarett
export it to csv and then use sql loader
bencc
RJarett: thanks. trying
RJarett: isn't it better to use .sql file instead of csv?
RJarett
no
because sqlloader can do direct path loading

bencc
csv file preserves all the relations?
RJarett
neither does sql
sql and csv are just data
if you want to convert everything even tables, you need to use sql, and then modify the DDL (data definition aka table and index and constraints) to be oracle format
bencc
ok
RJarett
theres little apps that help convert
bencc
RJarett: which one?
the following gives me many files: mysqldump -u root -p --fields-terminated-by=',' --tab=/tmp/db db
RJarett
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
thats one
but theres dozens
bencc
trying
I also have the data as .sql file from 11g. how do I import this?
RJarett
sqlplus
sytse
RJarett, bencc: um, isn't it way easier to just use SQL Developer to migrate?
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/supportedmigplatforms.html
RJarett
sytse: i dunno, i havent used it for that
sytse
and then export to oracle sql DDL files and do some finetuning or sth
a colleague of mine used sql developer to migrate tables to oracle
(plus it's free)

i have installed oracle 10g enterprise edition on windows xp sp 3, i want to start precompiler, but the proc command doesn't on sqlplus , nither in cmd prompt
:(
how to start precompiler ?
RJarett
you need to install w/ the developer options of the database installer or client installer for pro*c
plus you need a real compiler setup
agent47
when installing there's basic installation and advanced installation, i tried both, and where in oracle site i can download the precompiler
can you refer me the link please friend ?
sytse
you don't need the real compiler setup to run pro*c right? Although of course, you won't be able to do anything with the resulting source files if you don't have it..
agent47
i wanted to get started with precompiler, how do i ?
any help ?
i searched oracle site, can't get the pre compiler download link :(
sytse
I suppose you'll need to install the oracle client?
not the instant client though
agent47
looking for it in the oracle site, thanks :)
sytse
(the instant client only has pro*c on *nix)
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ids/index.html <-- that one has pro*c (developer suite, though it does contain lots of things you *don't* need)
hm, he's gone. I was going to tell him he should actually reinstall oracle, it's there, he just didn't look well enough, but oh well :(
