hello all
I just installed Oracle 10g Express Edition under Ubuntu 9.10 the configuration succeeded but I couldn't access the web interface
however when I do sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe status it says that it's Listening !
hello all
how can I resolve this problem : http://pastebin.com/m99cjesp
MaL0
wathek you have permissions to open a socket on port 81 ?
maybe you need to suid some files for it
wathek
MaL0, some files like what ?
MaL0
wathek look for .apachectl file
wathek
MaL0, I got the bin apachectl
MaL0
.apachectl (with the dot '.')
wathek
MaL0, I've no .apachectl
MaL0, where should it be located ?
MaL0
uhm
where is located apachectl ? $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin ?

wathek
MaL0, let me check that
MaL0, /usr/sbin/apache2ctl
MaL0
nope
netstat -nap | grep 81
wathek
MaL0, that's the default bin that comes with apache2
MaL0
that with root user
wathek
MaL0, there's no LISTEN on port 81
MaL0
ok
cd $ORACLE_HOME
wathek
MaL0, I'm in
MaL0
find . -name .apachectl -print
wathek
MaL0, no result
MaL0
strange
wathek
MaL0, I installed Oracle XE using the repos
MaL0
.apachectl is the file that you have to suid on Oracle Application Server, I thoght that was the same on oracle DB
try this
mm
wathek
MaL0, ?
MaL0
it's any problem to change http port to other higher than 1024 ?
ports below 1024 are for root user's
wathek
MaL0, no but you've just to tell me how I could do that
MaL0
maybe with this: http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/01/xe-changing-default-http-port.html
sorry I never do that with xe
wathek
MaL0, ok thank you
I'm gonna try that
MaL0
ok
wathek
MaL0, just one question MaL0 what would you do if you forget the system password ?
MaL0
wathek: pray

wathek
MaL0, lol
MaL0
hehehe, I'm kidding, sorry now I don't know
wathek
MaL0, I reinstalled oracle
it's configuring actuallay
I hope that it'll work
I set the port to 8181
MaL0
great
wathek
MaL0, cool it works
:D
MaL0, just one last question
MaL0, no it should be Ok
;)
:D
MaL0
?
wathek
MaL0, I'm gonna copy a database from an other computer to this new install of Oracl
:D
Oracle
:D
MaL0, how could I export a database ?
:p
DiscordianUK
There's exp
wathek
exp ?
DiscordianUK
yes
exports databases, tables users etc
wathek
DiscordianUK, you mean generate DDL ?
DiscordianUK
I do not
exp is a standard Oracle util

hi guys! i'm using oracle xe 10g and i'd like to use encrypted database connection to access a server. i could use ssh or openvpn but i'd prefer to do it natively. is there a way to do it and if so, how?
DiscordianUK
I'm not sure what your question means
Do you mean using encrypted SQL*Net?
mlaci
DiscordianUK, yes, exactly
DiscordianUK, it seems to me that oracle xe doesn't support aso, so i cannot do this natively. am i right?
DiscordianUK
I thought it supported TLS
mlaci
DiscordianUK, so can i do TLS without ASO?
DiscordianUK
(Action) doesn't know what ASO is
and google doesn't help
mlaci
DiscordianUK, sorry, i meant OAS - oracle advanced security
DiscordianUK
Ahhh not sure
mlaci
DiscordianUK, in the meantime i've googled for "oracle ssl" and based on what i (couldn't) found i don't think that oracle supports encrypting the connection through ssl
wathek
is this wrong create view avion_paris as select nomav, capacite from avion where localisation='Paris'
DiscordianUK
Then perhaps you'll have to tunnel via ssh
wathek
coz I'm getting localisation invalide identificator
mlaci
DiscordianUK, i can do any magic with ssh or openvpn but i rather wouldn't prefer that. i guess i have no choice. thank you for your help
DiscordianUK

Pay attention to the bits about encryption
Seus
i'm having issues creating multiple tables in a single query...anyone able to look at this and tell me wtf is wrong with it: http://pastebin.com/BYRQ4GFu
Dormir
you can't create multiple tables in a single query
DDL are atomic operations
Seus
hmm ok
archangle25
are there any historical metrics, such as tablespace usage, etc stored in Enterpirse manager? or are the reports generated on the fly?

Greetings Gentlemen
yesterday was my first experience installing Oracle 10g on a AIX Volume Group arch at a customer's dc. It was planned that all the customer had to do was to create a volume group of 30 G free space for letting me to install the instance and datafile, so i prepared my scripts and used 22/30 GB for data datafiles
but in reality they didn't allocate enough disk space , and while instance creation, AIX has deleted the system01.dbf file without warning
i learnt thet it was a default behaviour on AIX and HP-UX unix systems
so now i have to recreate my instance from scratch, but first of all i have to drop the database cleanly, so do you have some tips and tracks to watch out while droping an instance on AIX system ?
mator
sidh, http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15681/deinstall.htm
?
or reverse steps done in installation? :)
sidh
mator: ok i go for the second, i 'm goning to drop database and delete all the dbf files created, if they remains
mator: it is just an instance, not all oracle install
but thanks you anyway
i realize my precedent question was not right
s/database/instance
sorry

anyone on oracle ohs20 32bits on a 64bits linux distro and error in make when installing/
?
Trengo
the relink will fail wont it?
cmug
I have indexes last analyzed in october, shouldn't I schedule a weekly index analyze job?
Rudemeister
Trengo: true
tijnie
sidh, If you only want to delete the instance (i.e. your software install went fine) then delete all data-, control-, redologfiles
Also delete everything related to that specific instance in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs (like pfile/spfile/lockfiles/pwdfiles)
Then you can recreate the database like nothing happened.
cmug, It depends on how much your data changes.
cmug, if only a few rows are inserted/deleted/updated per day, maybe once every two days is sufficient. But I would say (for a normal reasonably load) once every day.
cmug, If your database is datawarehouse you should think of another strategy. For instance: after every data-load. (but I'm no DWH expert so maybe someone else has better ideas)
Rudemeister

cmug
tijnie, that was my general understanding too. thanks
sidh
ok tijnie , thank you very much

hello guys, I've just made a trigger in SQLPlus that changes the current_schema upon user logon..and tested it from the command line successfully..unfortunately from the web interface of Oracle Application Express...it doesn't function
anyone have any pointer as to what am I missing ?
the current_schema always stays the same with Apex web int
even if I change it from the sql commands prompt in it
I'm banging my head against the wall:) please help
progma
anyone know RAC here - i have a question about multipathed storage and how it works with RAC
bucky1
is there a more specific question, or is that it
Rudemeister
drhoef
progma
bucky1: sorry was afk - i was wondering if RAC handles multipathing or does it depend on md or other multipathing software to avoid corruption etc?
bucky1
if im not mistaken, multipathing is handled by the underlying hardware and drivers
progma
bucky1: ok
bucky1
we have a san that supports multipathing. oracle does a read/write to it, the driver automatically multipaths if it can.. oracle doesnt care how the packets actually gets to the san appliance
progma
is that running clusterware?
bucky1
we are low budget. we havent implemented RAC yet, just testing. if we implemented RAC wed have to use ASM because we would have Standard Edition licenses
the database runs on windows VM inside XenServer cluster connected to a AoE SAN appliance from coraid
progma
oh dang an AoE appliance in production, neat
i always wondered how AoE compared to, say, iSCSI etc
bucky1
i love it, plus i couldnt get anything else budgeted
wed be SANless without it
progma
what kind of throughput do you get
bucky1
the other option was some low end NetApp appliance that just ran a raid 6 of SAS drives.. I said to them , theres no way our DB could run on that, and convinced IT to get a coraid appliance, so we got 16 SATA drives with 6 RAID 1 LUNs given to ASM for our DB
our production DB has 10 local 15k RPM SAS drives
we ran on our virtual server, which is a VM running inside XenServer, connecting to the AoE SAN, and did not have any io concerns
throughput is pretty much whatever you can get out of the disks, we were worried about latency, but it is real fast
and we didnt have to buy fibber, or even a 10gbE switch.. although im pushing for one now
progma
nice
bucky1
our appliance has 6 x 1gbE ports

i have a server with 24G of memory, the tmpfs /dev/shm is defaulting to half that (12G)
and automatic memory management seems to be limited to that amount
is it a good idea to increase tmpfs to like 20g?
or why not 50g
hali
change fstab
and remount
markl_
yeah i understand the process but how do you determine what amount to use?
hali
use oracle's advisory views to tweak it
markl_
is that something i can google for? i am a total oracle n00b
"advisory views" gets 0 results
hali
SELECT * FROM v$memory_target_advice ORDER BY memory_size;
in sqlplus
it will show you a small historgram that indicates wether increasing the memory size is recommended or not
and you could potentially query v$memory_resize_ops to see how often oracle shuffles memory around
markl_
hmm this is a new server so i just need to do a guess
it is significantly larger than our old one
hali
on a new box i wouldn't go over 12gb
markl_
even with 24G memory?
hali
initially that is
leave it at 12gb until there is a reason to up it
but you may as well make shmfs bigger
and test it at a larger value (~20Gb MAX)
markl_
ok thanks for the hand holding :)
hali
so you can tune it easier in the future, but then go back to 12 before you go live
markl_
ok here's my situation - i am a long time mysql/postgres expert and i just got a job at an oracle shop
is there a good site with tips & tricks to help get up to speed quickly?
i got the hang of dbstart and dbshut, oratab, etc. but i am no guru yet :)
hali
hm, avoid anything by burleson consulting
like www.dba-oracle.com
