RanyAlbeg
Hello , im trying to create a table in the command line but when i press enter i get 'Not Connected' . Do you have any idea how do i connect?
RJarett
conn user/password
thats a good start
if you are a mysql user trying to use oracle, you should read a tutorial
tech_help
how can I dump a sql output from inside Oracle SQL Developer?
DiscordianUK
Does SQL Developer have documentation?
Does it not say?
tech_help
can't find it but doesn't mean it can't
DiscordianUK
I always read documentation before asking questions
and I dunno what you think #solaris has to do with the Oracle RDBMS
tech_help
you're mean aren't do?
I did apologize for posting in the wrong room
DiscordianUK
No I don't know
tech_help
if you're not helpful just be quiet

DiscordianUK
shush child
(Action) would use exp
Kaoru_Nagisa
hello
Someone here ?
RJarett
no
Kaoru_Nagisa
k ^^
RJarett
butler and murray screwed me up though
DiscordianUK
who are they?
RJarett
sorry wrong room :P
was talking ncaa
DiscordianUK
ahhh
Kaoru_Nagisa
i have a severe:OUI-10093 error while trying install oracle 10gR2 on debian for a project
it said the path is invalid
DiscordianUK
Goodness
and is it?
Kaoru_Nagisa
i run with response file
DiscordianUK
(Action) wonders how that answers my question
Kaoru_Nagisa
ORACLE_BASE="/app/oracle"
ORACLE_HOME="$ORACLE_BASE/10.2.0/supinfo"
DiscordianUK
That's not the path I'd expect to be honest
Kaoru_Nagisa
why ?
DiscordianUK
I'd expect /usr/lib/oracle/...
I also run on Linux
But not debian
and I did my 11G the old fashioned way with the installer
Kaoru_Nagisa
i can't run the graphical installer on debian 64 bit
DiscordianUK
why not?
Kaoru_Nagisa
Because OUI need 32 bits files
DiscordianUK
If it's 32 bit Oracle on 64 bit Linux then welcome to a world of pain
(Action) runs Oracle-XE (32 bit) on 64 bit

Kaoru_Nagisa
i'ts a 64 bit Oraclke 10gR2;(
DiscordianUK
Then install the 32 bit stuff it needs
RJarett
32 on 64linux will work just fine.
Kaoru_Nagisa
linux x86_64
DiscordianUK
and run the Installwer
-w-e
RJarett
almost everything preinstalls 32bit libs when you yum install
Kaoru_Nagisa
not yum on debian ;)
DiscordianUK
(Action) nods
(Action) is of the CentOS/Fedora persuasion
Kaoru_Nagisa
U should talk to my classmates
RJarett
your classmates can go fu*k themselves
deb/ubuntu people will have a hard time getting into the workforce
learn redhat and clones, and youll be more set for your future
Kaoru_Nagisa
...
DiscordianUK
(Action) nods
RJarett
business dont want evangelism of alternative distros
they want someone who knows their crap on SUPPORTED distros
DiscordianUK
Indeed so sir
Kaoru_Nagisa
ok
works now...
i like this !
because i dont want to reinstall the os
DiscordianUK
okay then well done
I can't see RMS being happy but still
Kaoru_Nagisa
DiscordianUK, i know
DiscordianUK
(Action) hopes there will be a 11G XE soon
Kaoru_Nagisa
(Action) hopes to sleep, only 9h in two days...
RJarett
id kill for that much
Kaoru_Nagisa
:)
good night

hello guys!
I have the following "error" ORA-00001: unique constraint (REVOLUTION.SYS_C0089017) violated. How I can find - by SQL - (I don't have the admin console) on which query/field is linked this constraint?
TheBonsai
select * from user_constraints where constraint_name = 'SYS.......';
asyd
thanks!
Illusioneer
I feel like I am getting the run around on this error message. It's a new install of 10g on a centos box. it seemed to work fine after the install but after I rebooted I can't seem to reconnect through isql or sqlplus
RJarett
there is no isql
Illusioneer
I keep getting "TNS listener does not crrently know of service rquested in connect"
DiscordianUK
From the tarball?
Illusioneer
but tnsping finds orcl
RJarett
did you set your environment variables?
Illusioneer
yes
DiscordianUK
10G works fine on CentOS 5.4
Illusioneer
ORA_HOME and ORACLE_HOME just to be sure
RJarett
sqlplus user/pass@orcl
Illusioneer
well it did work fine, until i rebooted
RJarett
ORA_HOME isnt a real variable
Illusioneer
yeah i just wanted to cover every possible thing
RJarett
did you set ORACLE_SID and LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Illusioneer
in my PATH settings or in a config?
RJarett
dude, delete oracle, load up windows and sqlserver express
pointy and clicky may be better
Illusioneer
is RJarett always like this?
RJarett
yes
Illusioneer
ah ok
iggy time for you then
sekhmet
Hey all - I'm having some difficulty with DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.ADD_PRIVILEGE on an 11g installation; it doesn't seem to actually take effect: http://pastebin.ca/1845843
I've tried the COMMIT inside the BEGIN/END as I saw elsewhere, but the version there is basically taken right from http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28419/d_networkacl_adm.htm
RJarett
SELECT aclid, shared, description FROM xds_acl;
sekhmet
RJarett: Oh, okay, so I should try checking in CHECK_PRIVILEGE_ACLID too?
RJarett: Hm, that yields the same. (it does return 1/Granted for a user who *does* have this ACL, btw, so the ACL itself should be fine)
RJarett
did you assign the acl to a site?
sekhmet
Hm, I had thought that since it was working for other users I wouldn't have to
`select * from dba_network_acls where aclid='(foo)'` seems to show the correct stuff; there's the box's hostname in there, "/sys/acls/rest_utl_http.xml" in the ACL field
rizzo
http://seilerwerks.wordpress.com/2009/08/19/setting-up-network-acls-in-oracle-11g%E2%80%A6-for-dummies/
sekhmet: ^^^ for starters
now I'll read what your actual problem was
sekhmet
heh
rizzo
I don't recall having to commit
sekhmet
I had seen that actually; hadn't tried the "simplified"-or-whatever form of add_privilege though; I guess I'll try that
Yeah, I was just going from the examples @ oracle.com mostly, which include the commit
rizzo
the package procs have autonomous trans/commit, iirc
oracle examples never made sense to me
so I wa happy to get that simple code from a co-worker
RJarett
i was in an 11gr2 new features workshop yesterday... lets say the labs confused almost everyone
first vpn wouldnt work
then they assumed people had basic linux and "how do i start sqlplus in cli" knowledge
sekhmet
rizzo: Yeah, using that form doesn't seem to do anything either
rizzo
you're on 11gr2 now, right?
sekhmet
http://pastebin.ca/1845907
rizzo
my examples were againts 11gR1, fwiw
sekhmet
rizzo: I believe so. And your examples worked as well as everything else I've tried. :)
rizzo
heh
EBisumaru
Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting the DBD::Oracle (Perl) driver installed on my RedHat server
DiscordianUK
Uhuh
sekhmet
Hm, I wonder if I have to specify the full path to the CAL, instead of the "short" version
rizzo
sekhmet: is username case sensitive?
DiscordianUK
what errors do you get
EBisumaru
h/o
sekhmet
rizzo: Yeah, I'm using the correct case (verified selecting from all_users)
rizzo
sekhmet: I don't think so re full path, it only puts them in one dir
EBisumaru
I installed the basic, devel, sqlplus packages, and i think I have the tnsnames.ora right
rizzo
ok
EBisumaru
though that could be the problem
in SQLPlus, I'm getting ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
DiscordianUK
right
and ...
rizzo
sekhmet: did you do the ASSIGN_ACL yet?
RJarett
you probably arent setting the right variables in yoru script
make sure you also set TNS_ADMIN to the path that holds tnsnames.ora
DiscordianUK
you said installing Oracle::DBD
EBisumaru
DBD::Oracle, actually
RJarett
http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/Perl
DiscordianUK
what's TNSNames errors got to do with installing it
RJarett
you dont need sqlplus to deal w/ dbd:oracle
rizzo
let me run your seelct query on our instance, sekhmet
EBisumaru
I've seen that page, RJ. I'm currently following this one http://starnixhacks.blogspot.com/2007/08/perl-talking-to-oracle.html
sekhmet
rizzo: Yeah, the ACL actually works fine for a few users already
RJarett
i really dotn care
you asked about perl. not sqlplus
EBisumaru
Well, it would seem that the Oracle driver uses the same TNS mechanism to connect as SQLPlus, so I was testing the TNS with that
DiscordianUK
there's an art to asking questions on IRC so people will try and help you
RJarett
the dude that wrote that article is an oracle moron
"hey i had an error... i guess i should have edited my tnsnames.ora"
ya think mr wizard?
DiscordianUK
(Action) chuckles
RJarett
you dont even need TNS if you use bequeth connections on the local system
EBisumaru
nope
DiscordianUK
aye
EBisumaru
there is no oracle on the local system
rizzo
sekhmet: no idea. 11gR2 doc jives with 11gR1, your stuff looks good
the check_privilege query works fine for me
GRANTED
(bi**hes)
sekhmet
heh, fun
Is there a way to select directly from the ACL table so I can see if there's some other garbage getting in the way, or something?
rizzo: thanks btw
rizzo
sekhmet: query dba_network_acl_privileges
select * from dict where table_name like 'DBA%ACL%';
sekhmet
cool, thanks
rizzo
np
conf call time, ttyl
sekhmet
huh, the necessary row seems to be in there properly... There's no start/end time defined; would that be a problem?
rizzo
I assume if no start/end then there's just no time limit
(PS that bit of help brought to you by Pythian -- www.pythian.com)
</plug>
sekhmet
heh
kk
Well, it'll just have to wait until folks more knowledgeable than I are in on Monday
EBisumaru
Seems like everything is assuming Oracle is installed on this machine
RJarett
no its assuming you just have a proper client install
EBisumaru
meaning the instantclient stuff?
RJarett
preferably not
zambaboo
hi guys
trying to restore from rman backups onto another machine. rman tells me that there are no backs of copy for the first four datafiles, however when i issue a 'list backup of datafile 1' rman tells me that these backups exist. what am i doing wrong?
RJarett
did you do any unrecoverable operations since the file backup was taken?
zambaboo
not on this database
also, report unrecoverable returns an empty list
RJarett
so... just do a simple image copy backup and have the destination be a nfs mount onto the other box
copy the controlfile over to the other box, and your oracle home
remove the nfs mount
run up rman. switch database to copy; (while on the remote box)
