i am trying to implement an affiliate program. affiliates may have different commissions for different date ranges. should I record the commission amount in the order record (at the time of the order)? or should i record the affiliate_commission_num? the latter would mean that the user could fix a commission amount if they screwed up, but it may also mean that reports could be inconsistent.
RJarett
this is a mysql question isnt it
or oracle class homework
stoick
i forgot oracle users don't encounter real life situations
RJarett
if this was a real life situation, you would know the best way to do this for YOUR BUSINESS
since we cant write basic business policy for you
stoick
i forgot there was always a best way
i'm just looking for ideas, man
want to talk this through
RJarett
no you are looking for us to CYA and come up with a better way
aka free business consulting
stoick
i'll just wait
RJarett
http://www.hotscripts.com/category/php/scripts-programs/affiliate-programs/
theres 213 exampels
look through them and find gaps in what they do, and think how you can fix it

stoick
thanks, but that's not what i'm looking for.
RJarett
youre not looking for something identical to what you need thats proven and works?
wow
talk about wanting to recreate the wheel with a square rock.
both ways you thought of to handle rates are pretty poor and limiting
they dont handle volume, rulesets, campaigning, etc etc
you should also probably join commission junction and see how they do all this
stoick
i'm not interested in all of those features. i'll just wait to see if anyone else has some comments. thanks for your help, RJarett
RJarett
dude, shut the hell up and go away
we dont want to do your homework then
and if its not homework, and you are making a crappy system, we dont want to help
stoick
it's an interesting problem to me and i want to discuss it
RJarett
no you dont
since you arent discussing anything about how to do it right
stoick
i have put you on ignore
rservers
man oracle is intense
RJarett
rservers: he just wants us to do his homework for him
thats why he wont deviate at all from his question
pigoz
could you reccomend me a book or some online resources to help me get into PLSQL? Some real world examples would be cool :)

real world example: a current covertor.
select convertMyCurrenty('10.23','usd','cad');

hi folks...is there a quick way to identify unusable partitions of indexes?
alexx1523
Hi everyone: I want to select A, B where there are no duplicates of B. Select distinct doesn't seem to work. I think I have a conceptual misunderstanding somewhere along the line
Dormir
spcshpopr8r: try dba_ind_partitions
alexx1523: what is your goal? are you trying something like select A, distinct B from table?
alexx1523
Yes
I would just do them in two different select statements, but then... the rows don't match up.... >.>
Dormir
what are you trying to do?
alexx1523
I want to de-dupe B from the data
In other words, I want the first record of every result for B, and incidentally I want A selected as well
It appears the answer is the MAX function
Dormir
there are multiple ways to do it. MAX will work

spcshpopr8r
Dormir: thank you...I should've looked there first
